Is anyone here running vista 64bit? How would you rate your experience?

I'm running vista 32bit now and am considering going 64 after adding an extra 2 gb module for a total of 4gb.

I dont have any problems gaming that I can attribute specifically to Vista x64. Some games (mostly MMO types) have some memory related issues though. At random points those games try to access restricted memory addresses and crash out. Usually its pretty rare but if you go into very high detail graphics it can be more frequent.

Lucky for me I don't play any MMOs right now. Can you list games that you've personall played that work?

I had a round of GTA:SA a night of ago worked pretty good, felt smooter than xp.

I have installed stalker, but i play that in XP I need to move my save game over to the new install on vista64, i have also played source games CS:S and HL2 without a hitch. BF2 and 2142 are on my list of games to install but to be honest spring is here and i have my mind on other things (yardwork and just plain getting outside) but i will see about getting stalker running tonight and i will get back to you.

Every game I have tried works.. There are *some* that crash but they are playble. I personally have played EQ2, LOTRO, SWG, WOW, Might and Magic (new one), Battlefield2.

I just installed Vista 64 Ultimate. F.E.A.R. seems to stutter. I believe it's Nvidia's fault. They need more polish on their drivers. As for Vista itself, I really like it.

There is a good thread in these forums of gamers and their vista experiance, i would look for it but works keeping me busy.

I've seen the vista gaming thread, but I need a 64bit vista gaming thread. Couldn't find it myself.

This statement concerns me. What you mean is that all these games will start up but crash randomly? How often?

Stalker works fine, I did try BF2 way back on vista RC1 and it worked but it was punkbuster that messed things up. I should imagine all that has been resolved by now.

In Vista x64

Stalker, BF2, Oblivion, HL2, HL2 ep1, Supreme Commander, CC3, Dark Messiah of MM, CoH's, Painkiller, NWN2

All work great. Only got a couple crashes in Dark Messiah but fixed them.

Don't really know why MS released a 32bit version. 64 bit is very stable and 99% of my 32 bit programs have worked in 64 bit.

Nero didn't work right at first, but now it's fine.

It's amazing what a couple short months has done for Vista.

That's awesome to hear. I've got my vista ultimate 64 just sitting on a shelf here waiting for my new build and I was hoping by the time I do build 64 would be running smooth.

MS releasing a 32 bit and 64 bit version was silly imo...probably wastes software developers time being compatible for both. Should have just been 64 bit and force everyone to adopt it.
