Worth waiting for April price cuts?

any updated predictions on what the 4/22 cuts will be for intel?

i'm thinking about snagging a x2 6000+ or a 5600+ considering how low they're going to drop monday... ~185 and ~170 respectively and about on par with an e6600? pretty hard to turn down unless the c2ds drop that low themselves... plus with all the bundles newegg always throws in... gosh. so hard to turn down.

I hope instantly because im having the hardest time just waiting until April 22nd =)

Q6600 I will wait for you <3

Oh yes Q6600, you will be mine.

Thats not on April 22nd tho...

Thanks mate, I know :). Reason I got the Badaxe2 was so that I could get myself a proven Q platform for whenever the price becomes right on the Q parts. For now I'm happy with my E6600 :D

Are Intel laptop chips going to get a price drop?

I feel the pain on waiting. I'm trying, but every time SupCom drops down to a 1-2fps slideshow I think maybe a $100 savings isn't worth the wait.

I read that the mobile Core 2 Duo are not getting a price drop on the 22nd.

I hope not all dual cores are 1333fsb cpu....... these new 1333fsb chips are gonna suck for overclocking...... anybody know if were going to have a choice between 1066/1333 in the future or theyll all be 1333fsb soon......

1333 or not the 6850 has a 9x multi which is really not bad at all. Anyway between that and a Quad 6600 at the same 266$ price the choice is easy...

And that chart is weird with the 6540 at the same speed/cache as the 6550...

That 6850 is pretty much an E6600..... only thing Im looking for in the upcoming pricecuts are reasonably priced DC with 10+ multi.... Its gonna be funny to see how many people jump on the 1333fsb and think its faster than the 1066fsb cpu's....... I wish they would make a 800fsb E6600 lol.....

well if your pc isnt that bad and you can wait for awhile then wait for the price cut, but if you want to play a game but your pc can't handle it, then maybe do a minor upgrade that will meet the minimum req of the game and then wait for the q3 price drops and do a huge upgrade.

Anyways, what is your current spec?

OMG, is Intel crazy. I cant wait for these price cuts. They need to drop now. I am just about to drive to frys to pick up an amd x2 6000(I have an amd 3000+ and it sucks now) with a crapy motherboard and go into debt. Someone hit me in the face, now!

I am just a poor college student, please show mercy Intel!

eidt: After seeing those price cuts for a little while, and looking at my bank account I think I have calmed down. No need to hit.
Its really just the bank standing in my way, if I wasnt scared of my credit card I would be there now.

Don't order it if you can't afford it man, plain and simple. :)

Otherwise, when the price cuts come into effect. Pick yourself up a nice E4300 and a 680i LT mobo or something along those lines. Even a Gigabyte DS3 is about $120 and you could do that for a total of $233 ish. Of course then you still need RAM ;)

the best choice for everyone is to wait till the autumn price cuts and buy a 45nm cpu,or wait for the 45nm quads. There is no need for anyone of you to buy now, cause the discounts are closer and closer. The bad thing is that AMD is starting to fire people from it's company because of it's losses, and if this continues...i do not know how many (or if there will be any) price cuts from Intel will come.(because of the lack of competition)

Here we go again... come autumn, there'll bigger and better things on the horizon and you'd think - wait a minute, this stuff sucks, there's nethalem and what's not coming up in a couple months, why waste money on this stupid penryn? Get over it, the cycle never ends, it only slows down. As for AMD, they will find a way to get back into the game, it's not the first time, and it's definitely not the last one.

I've been waiting a long time, Autumn is too long a wait. I'll upgrade the CPU, mobo, RAM, VC now and if by winter the price / perf ratio of quad core is looking good, I'll check it out.

Those already using dual core processors I can see waiting until then but otherwise there are some great choices come April 23.

Question is which board to get on a budget that is a good overclocker, will have good bios support, will support the new quad cores come winter (SLI not necc.) ?

Anyone want to bet that the c2d / free Supreme Commander bundle ends april 21st?

I was thinking the same thing, they better not them bastards. I'm not even really interested in the game, but I LOVE free stuff.

if $130ish is considered budget, then you can't go wrong with a gigabyte ds3 rev 3.3. i'm running one now with my old pentium 915D until the price cuts come and its as good a board as any.

i'm really thinking of just pulling the trigger on a e6420 from shopblt for $208. then selling my e6400 as fast as I can once I get it. Hopefully I can pull 190 out of it still, since it's a good week and overclocks fairly respectably. Not anything stellar but more than acceptable. hmm, decisions, decisions

With the cuts coming in less than 2 weeks, your really going to have to pull off a miracle to get $190.00 for a E6400...

There is always a few "victims"on Ebay though..:)

You guys with your Conroe's and the "I have to upgrade" bug are killing me. Look at the one and only PC I have in my sig.

Now that system warrants an upgrade and I'm waiting until Q3.

On the other hand, if you do upgrade and feel bad for me, I would welcome your discarded Conroes as a donation:)

With the drop in the past two days for the E4300 at Fry's with that mobo combo and at eWiz, it seems like either that particular price cut might already be inching towards acceptance or Intel could have just said "Milk it and lower it a bit" to the retailers. No idea, but right now if I had $125 or so I'd be on the way to Fry's - I bought a Palm TX last night for $75 and it still sells on eBay for $220+ most of the time... maybe I should sell it... :p

Just checked newegg.com -- the price has dropped to $235.00 for the E6600: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003

Anyone have any idea if the price is expected to drop again soon? Or if it will stay? Or possibly raise at all? This is very tempting. I want to get it, but if it is gonna stay I want to wait -- especially if it is expected to drop again within the next couple weeks or so. I'm doing a new build and I'm thinking about waiting for the new R600 video card (that keeps getting delayed), and I want to oder everything at the same time -- though, if I end up going with the 8800gtx, then I won't need to wait. If the CPU price could go back up at all, then I definitely don't want to wait -- does anyone think this a reasonable possibly?

No way, it's going to at least stay where it is. Initial speculation was $224. That was probably per unit to vendors. $235 is as close as we could hope for and I don't think we can expect notably lower prices until August. At any rate, I just ordered mine!

Concerning the original question posed in this thread: Hells yeah!

I grabbed a 6420 off ZZF on friday for 199 bucks and free shipping. I'm desperate for a new computer so I decided that waiting for the $183 price point just wasn't worth it. Besides, a few of my components (like my ram.. wow $189 to $149) dropped pretty drastically in price since I first spec'd my build, so I came out ahead in my mind. ;)

Btw the $224 is not the final cost to distributors, that is expected street price. The price may fluctuate +/- 10% or upto 15% above or below $225 based on incentives, supply and demand, but nothing big until Q3 in terms of a drop or rise, unless there are major supply or production problems.

Why does Newegg have the e6700 for $515 and ZZF has it for $340?

I guess they just haven't lower it yet. I might get one.
