Hi,

The other day my server couldn't log onto its OS and all it kept showing was a prompt asking me to boot to the recovery console and hit "r" to run a repair. Im assuming it probably want me to run chkdsk /r, fixboot, fixmbr (one or the other). Anyway, Its been more than 2 years that I need to log onto as the Administrator to repair. I can not do this unless I have an administrator password which I totally forgot. Is there anyway for me to find out what my password is?

Thanks,

find a disk called ERD

make sure its the windows 2000 flavor and not the XP one.

If it is a standalone server you can use the Offline NT Password Registry Editor to blank out the admin password.

Then you can boot into Windows 2000 server and set the password to your choosing.

If it is a domain controller you are pretty much out of luck unless you had a secondary account with admin privileges.

defintaely find a program called erd commander from systernals(may be winternals now i think) awesome program for little things like this

If you are talking about the Admin Recovery Console it is most likely blank unless you actually entered it. Personally I leave them blank since you have to be physically at the machine to use it. My servers are in a locked room and getting direct access to one is impossible. Just a thought, make sure you set one up and if not then just press enter.
