I had my head up my ass and I posted this thread in the MB forum! My mistake.
I will be pulling my system apart in the next 10 days to add H20 cooling to my NB & SB. So I was thinking about upgrading to a quadcore from the E6600. I am not unhappy with the 6600 at all. It OC's quite well and I am not sure from the reviews if I will get much more bang for the buck. However, taking everything apart, which is a task in itself made me think about upgrading the cpu. This is my home PC (details in sig) and I use it 80% for gaming and the rest for miscellaneous business tasks such as CAD and extensive spreadsheets. I am really on the fence with this one. Money is not an issue, it really has to do with the pain that of draining my system and taking everything apart.
Opinions greatly appreciated.

Somehow "not worth it" just doesn't cut it....

For your intended uses, unless you plan on seeing HUGE gains with CAD that will really benefit your work, I cant see why this would be a worthwhile investment.

Thank you, that is exactly the type of feedback I want!

My advice would be to delay the NB/SB thing until the price drops on quads later this month. Then go ahead and pull the trigger. You will be a lot happier when you aren't asking yourself this same question 6 months from now, and you will also be happier now because you saved some money in the process.

E6600 is a good chip. Why don't you wait for Penryn or smth. That would be a big jump and worth investment.

I agree, wait a while for prices to drop. You a very solid system that will last you for a while. Taking it apart to install a new CPU in a year won't be so bad.

Hey im was thinking about building a computer for Vanguard, But what are those 2 chips ive never heard of them before? Kind of been out of the loop for a year

The next big thing from Intel, stomping both Conroe and Barcelona, coming in 2008. Smithfield is the server core, and Penryn is the desktop core (or maybe I've got those mixed up ?)

This may be totally off topic..but I am curious as to what "H20" cooling is. You've got it in your sig and everything and I just can't quite figure out what "H20" is.

Twenty-parts Hydrogen cooling?

Dihydrogen Oxide. Otherwise known as water.

I thought that was H2O, as in Oxygen. Anyways, Ive never looked into water cooling. Completely NOOB to it.

*slaps head*

two hydrogen molecules and one oxygen = Dihydrogen Oxide, or Dihydrogen Monoxide if you want to get really picky.. Have you ever taken, oh, introductory high school chemistry? This is really basic nomeclature stuff.

and his sig says H2O.

Well if you insist upon insulting my intelligence.. I will reveal that its not normal for WATER to be referred to as H20, (thats a zero not an "O") so its a perfectly normal question. And his signature did say "H20" not "H2O" before.

If this entire argument is based off of somebody messing up H20 and H2O because they look alike.. well then who honestly cares what he meant. I'd just like to know how you can say H20 = H2O or HOH.

Well, let's see. First of all, like you said, they look very similar, and water is commonly used as a cooling agent for computers, cars, and other devices that put out large amounts of heat. Secondly, right after the "H2O" in his sig, it says he's running this through an Aqua Cuplex XT. He also says he has the video card cooled by an Aqua AquagraFX.

I honestly don't know why you're carrying this on. I would have attributed it to a brain fart (which happens to me quite often, I ask stupid questions all the time) and let it be.

Don't do the quad, not worth it.

UNLESS... you play Supreme Commander. Then it is worth it. :D

I actually plan on moving my e6600 to my Raid5 fileserver and replacing it with a q6600 at some distant point in the future, instead of just getting an e6300 (or future equivalent) for the raidfarm. SupCom is the sole reasoning behind that. Well that and I have a new/recent e6600 that only makes it to 3.3-3.4 on low/mid-grade watercooling. Even a 3.0 OC on a q6600 would make me happy.

Oh, and 0 =/ O. Hmm... Maybe that should be revised for clarity. Zero equals-not the letter "O". :p

And being intentionally vague about pointing it out just to start crap because you're bored, equals-not cool. :( I can't say what anyones' motivation is, but they know whether or not it was done in that way, for that reason.

Just trying to REALLY understand what the hell's going on here :D

I literally thought H20 (h - two - zero) was some fascinating new liquid cooling method I had not heard of. I've never looked into it because of price points.

But as the entire thing progressed...it became pretty evident some people here are saying H20 and not realizing that its not the same as H2O. As in water. 2 hydrogen molecules + 1 oxygen molecule. H2O. HOH. etc.. Not starting fights.. just cant seem to get a clear, definitive answer to my initial question....

I am friendly. I swear it! :(

First impressions are frequently wrong, no? :D
