The Official Core 2 OverClocking Database *READ 1st Post for Instructions*

Wow, these E4300s overclock nicely. So far i'm at 3.15GHz with 1.325v (default) and the retail Intel cooler on an Abit AB9 Pro. I'm glad I waited anyways. For less than the price of the OEM E6600 alone a few months ago, I got a retail E4300, Q965 board and 2GB of memory. :D

I'll update when I find the top stable speed. I wish the Q965 had more memory multipliers. :( My cheesy DDR2-667 will become a factor soon.

Is this the ordenary not-overclocked 6400 pc??

(it runs a litle slow on Vista, thats why im asking)

Videomasterz, I got a third cpu, same week as 2nd entry, different code :) I'm gonna install watercooling and see how high I can take this baby. 2nd cpu runs too hot to my liking..

Skull, I think your cpu is throttling or something... got to disable it in bios I think

I know something is wrong. Do you know what is causing it? Its not overclocked. THe only changes I made is that I enabled some functions like use max cpu blah blah stuff...

Nothing's wrong, CPU is slowing down because it's not used much to save energy and be a little cooler. I forgot what's the function in bios but it's there, just poke around and you'll find it.

your CPU multiplier is set to 6 instead of 8. disable CPU throttling or whatever it is you tweeked in the bios.

First post so I'm a bit of a newbie to the forum, but why is the Q6600 missing from the OC database? I've heard it isn't much of an overclocker but surely it still deserves a place on the list?

It's not out yet and only a few poeple have engineering samples.

M3_Dust, how do I change the multiplier?

It's already being set to 8. However, speedstep / c1e / eist is turned on in the bios to drop the multiplier andvoltage under idle conditions to save power. You can turn it off if you poke around your bios but it shouldn't make much of a difference at all since it's extremely quick to adjust vid and fid. Perhaps you haven't installed all your drivers, namely motherboard chipset ones? vista is slow and terrible in general though

Thanks for the update videomasterz! Appreciate all the effort you have put forth in this thread... and it has inspired me to overclock more!

Thanks.

your very welcome.... i always try to update when i have time :)

Oops. That 2nd CPU-z should be showing the memory tab, but I guess I didn't notice it til now.

Hey videomasterz seems as though you put down a different mobo than the one I have. I have the P5N-E SLI, not the P5N32-E SLI.

I hope you can fix it without too much trouble, I just don't want misleading info up there and I dont see any other of the same mobos as mine that high :D

it seems like my newer E6400 takes a lot more voltage to OC than the older ones.

I can get it to 3.2ghz cpu with 1.48125v vcore in bios, but it will not work with any less. the RAM also runs fine at 1200mhz. it runs right at the safe thermal limit for me, so I don't want to keep it there.

oh ok thanks for pointing that out.. guess i was a bit tired when i added you.. i will make note of it and change your entry.. i will put it in the "Edit" section of the update post :)

It appears to be out according to newegg.com. In Stock and 19 reviews ...? Not nearly as many reviews as the other C2Ds of course, but still.. I suppose we'll see more of them when the price cuts hit.

Although i had hoped to reach 3,6 Ghz with a bit lower Vcore and a lower load temperature.

My idle temp is at 36 degrees, but rises to 66 during the 4h+ othos, primarly due to my noise dampening mats in my high tower. (they isolate so internal temps end up in the 39's)
If I rip of the side, im down to 62 degrees. (although i use a 120mm + 80mm for blowing air in, and likewise for blowing air out)

A weird note, my Tcase is always 15 degrees higher than my Tjunction...so if I measure with asus probe/speed fan during tests it's at 81 degrees :p
Even at stock the Tcase is 55-57 degrees during load. (Tjunction ~40 degrees)
So i only use the Tjunction as a reference.

*Edit*
I just tried to enable PECI in the BIOS....this fixed the problem.
Now Tcase is at 30 degrees during idle (35-38 Tjunction)

Cheers m8s.

Woot! I'm gonna try for higher now, but I think my small radiator is going to be the limiting factor in my setup.

Edit: Well, I can get 4004 MHz into Windows, but under load is craps out and freezes up. :(

Well... it's a start. Gonna shoot for higher in a couple of days.

ummmm does this count for unstable overclock? 3.66GHz but won't go into windows ;p

hehe
havent done any orthos'n or anything. best cpuz verified OC to windows was:

xkon ill probably except that for the top 5 unstable overclocks for your e6300 ... you are allowed only one entry for the unstable list.. let me know if you want me to add it.. just do your db entry in the format posted in the first thread.. thanks...

This one is my highest OC I've done with this chip, it isn't totally Orthos stable yet, but it can run most benchmarks and be used for UT gaming.

Holy shit, that's high !!...I just noticed your cpu week/code and it match mine with 9 instead of 8 for yours. I bet mine would clock as well but since I'm aircooling, I don't want to take the risk. I know i can go higher but the temps is holding me back.

I know of another one with the same week/code as you and he was able to go as high as 3.3-3.4 but he was afraid due to a cheap heatsink.

The chip does get pretty warm at those speeds even with water cooling............ I'm not going to stress it much until I get my new Thermochill PA120.3 triple radiator tomorrow, then I should be able to runn a full 4 hours Orthos (I hope), might have to crank up the volts a bit more though, but I'll have to wait and see.

My first venture into Intel territory in about 10 years. But since the C2D looked soo good I decided to give them a shot. First OC attempt was exactly the same, but kept crashing randomly. Sometimes 40 min into orthos sometimes 10. Also applications showed instability. Then I noticed I was running my memory at 1.8v (rated at 1.8-2.1) so I bumped it up to 2.0v and also gave my vCore a bit more. from 1.325 to 1.35 in Bios.

After these slight changes. I ran orthos again and rock solid for 8Hrs +. Next I'm going to tighten my timings a bit to 4-4-4-12 which the ram is rated for, and also see if I can drop my vCore back down to 1.325. No reason to pump extra power in if I don't need to. Not going to try for more than 3.2ghz as that was my goal with this new build and I have hit it.

That's weird how Orthos shows 3600 MHz and CPU-Z shows 3200 MHz. I've never seen that before.

That's weird how Orthos shows 3600 MHz and CPU-Z shows 3200 MHz. I've never seen that before.

It's when you drop the multi below default.

Default is 9, so windows and a lot of programs like orthos think of it as 9x400=3600, or rather 8x450=3600 since some work backwards to find fsb.

But cpuz shows actual 8x400=3200.

for instance, I'm at 7x500=3500 with my e6400 and a lot of programs see that as 4000, in the form of 7x571=4000.

Meh. Not pulling off this Tuniq, just to get the code. Hopefully I can still make the list w/o it. I see some entries up there w/o it. :)

I'm sure you will, I personally know that taking off the tuniq is a pain.
