What software do you recommend for overclocking NVidia video cards?

to find the optimal use coolbits, then use 3dmark06 to see if there is artifacting, after you find the best clock frequency has been found for core/mem, then bios flash them into the bios with nibitor so you don't have to install any oc program and don't have any fuss when installing newer drivers :-D

Thanks RogueTrip I will give it a try. Anybody else have any recommendation.

You are recommending a bios flash to someone who is asking what is the best software to overclock?

To the OP, my suggestion is to use either Rivatuner, Coolbits or ATITools to overclock the card. To check the stabiliy of the oc, you should use the artifact tester in ATITools. It is far more accurate than staring at 3dmark to find the artifact. If it passes at least 1 hour of the test without an error, then it's good.

You can set the oc'd clocks to start automatically in 3d mode without flashing the bios with either 3 of the program above.

I assume you're using xp, if you're using VISTA like me you're in a load of hurt for fan control and booting with changed clocks. Currently the only thing that works for me is ATItool for overclocking IN windows (won't load at startup correctly without errors eventually) and ntune for controlling the fan (again, have to wait till windows boots to do this).

I'm really considering a bios change for this ATM.

If you look at the OP's sig you will see they already know how to o/c and flashed his/her mobo, although i'd be assuming, i'd never recommend doing it without reading up on it, which if they didn't i could provide links from the SLI thread that shows good step by step direction on how to do it.

The OP most likely is just looking for what others recommend and if something new is out that might be better than the rest. For me personally i didn't like ATI tool, thats why i recommend coolbits and 3dmark, you can run the demo or test and it will show pretty well on the 2nd test and the one with the sea serpent rather well. If anything else if it happens in a game then you can still downclock from there.

That is what I am doing .Just wanted to see if there is anything new out there. I was using ntune. Yes I do know how to overclock.

it's what i figured, as long as cooling is good you should be able to run 480/1200 pretty easy. Mine before the 1.5v bios mod would run there but anything would artifact on me. Afterwards right around 515/1225 was where it would start to artifact, i run 500/1200 to be safe.

I wonder what your 3dmark06 will be since are systems are very close to the same, i'm hitting right around 7589 @ 500/1200.

Edit: looks like a single core 4400, not x2, your score will be lower. sorry about that

It is a dual core processor. It been a while since I ran 3Dmark06,the last time I ran it my score was 7192 with the video cards set at 470/1200. I can't get the card any higher then that. The cards are unmodded. When I get a chance I will run 3Dmark06 again. Fix my sig too.

I mostly use AtiTool for overclocking, I like it.

I've been messing around with Gainward ExperTool, it's cool.

Alright I did some 3DMark06 testing
#1-cards set at 470/1100 factory setting I got a score of 7276
#2-cards set at 470/1200 I got a score of 7390
#3-cards set at 480/1200 I got a score of 7521
I will do some more testing over the weekend. I am using RivaTuner to overclock the cards.Try coolbit but it lockup the computer when I set the cards to 470/1200.

With coolbits are you setting it to 1A?

I do not know did not look to see where it was.

For SLI its recommended to use the dword coolbits with a value of 1A.

quick run down what it does:
When you enable Coolbits and set it to 1A, you will have the ability to change the clocks on BOTH cards to the SAME new values. The clock settings that you select in the control panel using coolbits will be applied to BOTH cards. Since the best SLI performance is achieved when the clock speeds are identical, NVIDIA provides settings in the control panel that force uniform clocks. However, SLI WILL work if the clocks are different (if you purchased cards with different clocks).

Not sure about that since I have never used Nvidia SLI only Voodoo2 back then :p. Wait till those with SLI to chime in.

the current PowerStrip doesn´t support the 8800 series! :(

The latest build release of Powerstrip addresses the 8800 series. My 8800GTS is correctly identified and supported. More then I can say for ATI tool, crashes whenever I try and launch it, even after uninstalling/reinstalling. File remnant or something from the upgrade, who knows.

omg, i´m gonna upgrade my Powerstrip right now ! :)
