I just got my new 360, and the first time I turned on the console, I synced up the controller with the search button on the console and controller and everything was good. But when I turned the console of, and tried to get it back on with the controller, the controller would not connect to the console. The only way to reconnect it was resyncing it with the buttons. Now, the controller will not sync at all. Does this mean a bad controller?

and once you get it, do not touch those buttons anymore!

I have actually never had to use the buttons with mine. From day one I could hold down the guide button and turn on my 360 :)

I have had zero issues with mine. Perhaps it is interfearance?

I was sitting 6 inches from the console while trying to sync it a couple minutes ago. Doesn't seem to be the issue. I'm hoping its a controller issue and not a console issue.

Same here. From the moment I took it out of the box, and hooked it up, I haven't had to press the sync buttons. The controller turns on the console every time, and has never had any issues.

Hopefully it's a controller issue, as that would be easier to replace. You say you got your new 360. Is this your first one, or is it a replacement, or what? I don't think you really need to use the sync button ever, unless you have multiple controllers, for multiplayer gaming.

Also make sure you're hitting the sync buttons in the correct order (I believe it's console first, then controller, but I could be wrong). I suggest turning the console off with the controller remotely as well.

This is my first 360.

I tried Console-Controller and Controller-Console. No go.

Might be the controller, maybe you should try an exchange. Also I got a question for you wireless controller guys. When I take my batteries out the controller for charging, do I have to resync when I put them back in. I was under the impression the controller loses its "memory" when the batteries are taking out, and forgets what console its synced too. I dont know much about how these things work. so thanks.

No. I own several 360 controllers and swap them constantly. I can pick up any of my controllers and hit the middle button and my console fires up. It doesn't matter if you just put batteries in the controller.

I bought a 360 about 2 months ago. I didn't have any contact problems, nor did I have to sync it with the console.

You have a bad console or controller. Return it.

The only problem I have with my contoller comes from the fact that I try to use the same wireless controller for the 360 as well as the pc. I have to sync to the wireless adapter and then re-sync back to the 360 when I switch. I'm sure this could be cured by getting another controller though.;)

I tried a new controller and same results. Looks like its the console.

I had the same problem on my 360. Change my Router Wireless Channel and it fixed it. Also using a Plug and Play pack will fix it too.

With all wireless devices in the extended area unplugged, the console still exhibits the same behavior.

Silly question. With the console off, when you hold the guide button to switch on the controller does the 360 turn on?
