Sometimes get artifacting in STALKER, why?

Anyone know what would cause this? Sometimes I fire up stalker, and there's a lot of artifacting, other times it's fine. I think the same thing has happened in Company of Heroes, but at the time I thought it was cause of my overclock, which was 484/1340. I'm now running at stock 460/1300, but still get artifacting sometimes.

Is this a problem with STALKER or my video card is going?

Would be a shame if I'm forced to buy an 8800GTS. :)
 
Thing with overclocking is that once it's caused damage to the hardware removing the overclocking doesn't fix things.

It's probably heat damage to the card causing the artifacts.
 
I get artifacts sometimes too when it rains in STALKER and AFAIK it's a fairly common problem. Whenever it happens, I just restart the game and that'll fix it.

not true, i used to oc my 9550 to the point where there were so many artifacts i could barley read the screen.i took the overclock off and it still works to this day.

It is during the rain yeah, maybe it's a STALKER problem?

I never overclocked this card past 484/1340, the 'optimal' overclock it determined.

But did it cause damage? Just artifacting doesnt means its damaged.

Best thing for people who want to overclock is to upgrade the cooler.
 
ocing that little wouldnt damage the card. have your tried different video drivers? do you have adequate cooling in your case?
 
I experienced the same problem as well, just with STALKER. What solves this problem for me is by hitting the ESC button and going into the "save game" or "load game" menu and waiting for a few seconds for the artifacts to disappear. When I go back into the game, the artifacts are gone.

One time, the above trick didn't work for me. To fix it, I hit the ESC key, went into the Advanced video options and set Vsync to "on." That fixed it and I didn't get artifacts after that.

I think the problem is either with the game or with the Catalyst driver I'm using which is v7.2.

There's a Zalman cooler on it, and it maxes at around 76C under load. I never really noticed artifacting until Stalker, but it happened a couple times in COH.

Sounds from some of these posts that it's a Stalker problem.
 
is it artifacting? or glitching textures or tearing? I know with my gtx I get some spotty textures in Stalker, gothic3 and a couple other games that i didnt get with my 7900gt. Artifacts obviously are usually permanent, vsync would fix the tearing, and drivers would fix the spotty/missing textures I guess.

It's not tearing or missing textures, it's a lot of huge flashing triangles and stuff.
 
my best recommendation on this types of issues is that you do a clean install of your display drivers.

I've had zero problems with CoH (not City but Company of Heroes), and have yet to install and fire up my copy of STALKER (out of country for a quick trip).

I'll be heading home tomorrow and eager to fire up this baby. I sure do not hope to see artifacting on my install...my friend seems pretty PO'd with this game, as it runs a bit sluggish...but then again he has a 7800 ;)

Can't wait to play...
 
Im also getting artifacts occasionally in stalker. They usually show up around the anomolies which strikes me as kind of odd...

sometimes they are little red things, blue things that look like tears....yellow rock type deals...






Oh well atleast i get a ton of money form the bartender!:p

in all seriousness i did get artifacts a couple of times. this game is kinda iffy on the code side.
