The top box, is that a full-depth 1U server? If so, how do you have it mounted in the 2-post rack?

I bought a long 2U rackmount tray off ebay for $20 and mounted it in the back. The server sits on top of it without hanging in the rear and I can screw in the front as well.

Well here is my home network, not much, the router is just a Linksys with a built in 4 port switch. Being used for DHCP and to govern the nodes on the D-Link 24 Port L2Unmanaged switch.

Yes it says that the broadcast cloud is my modem but its actually just bridged, the router is set to pull an IP, DNS, etc. from ISP.

Messiest wiring you have ever seen maybe? wait till you see behind my pcs. A maelstrom of wires creates a web of confusion.

Pic of room, under the desk is a turned off Smoothwall server, one without front 5.25" bay covers is my apache file sever (400 gigs total). E-machines case (one in sig) is gaming machine, and the other is just a music/movies local server.

Right on. I have the same modem. I'm actually thinking of replacing it since I've had to cycle the power on it about once every 2 days...

$40 shipped Pix running 4.4 ftw! Perfect for inbound lab control. :D

and its looking like im going to need *another* rack for the rest of the lab when i get there... ugh

little update

now up to 126 GigE copper ports

nice Flecom! but why aren't you using all those ports? :)

well, i had a few farms at home, but i cant afford to run them anymore (powerbill was too high)

so for now they are just waiting to see if i ever have another so. fla lan party

Wait a second...you're telling me you have a roughly $10k+ switch in your home doing pretty much nothing?

Just out of curiosity, how did you acquire such a device?

Wait, you live in florida? heck you should do a big lan party and use my gaming computer as the server lol ;) :D

i broke into HP headquarters with nothing but a paperclip and a 4ft cat5 patch cable... :p

I have a job? plus i made a little bit of money off the lan parties, and side work like data/disaster recovery on the side (people will pay just about anything if you get their data back)

that plus ebay... gotta love that ebay, there is a guy that sells HP stuff down here in miami for pretty decent prices... i traded in a bunch of networking gear for the 4108

but ya i have plenty of fun stuff... i love my old accelars too

and i have a pair of HP2650's and a Nortel Passport 8010... i added a pair of 8 port GBIC cards to the 8010 also

i have a pseries h70 now (in addition to the gear in #1849) :)

just picked up an aix distro, so hopefully it will soon be up & running & onto the pallet
edit: btw specs are quad proc & 3gb ram

Okay, here we go. I finally have some pictures from our new HQ building:

Lets start with our dual 600KW UPSs.
Network&

Lots of conduits!
UPS2.jpg

Yeah, I don't think I'm sticking my hang in there!!
UPS3.jpg

Here are the PDUs that feed power to floor 1 and 3-12 network rooms from the main UPS shown above. Floor 2 is directly off of the main UPS as that is where the data center and core network is.
PDUs.jpg

Here we have the MDF where all the core routing and phone systems are. the shot is taken from the entrance to the room. In the back you can see our ancient Nortel PBX (why won't they go to VoIP already!!! :-( ) They actually moved that beast from our old campus across town!
MDF1.jpg

Here is another shot walking down the ramp into the room.
MDF2.jpg

Here are our dual 6509 core switches. dual 2gig ether channels to each floor, dual sup720s. dual power to two different UPSs. Yeah, I think thats pretty fault tolerant.
Core.jpg

Here are the dual core 6509s for the server farm. Same config as the core switches except all the servers are cross connected directly to each gig port on the switch.

This is the telco rack where our WAN/Internet/Phone circuits jump off the various providers fiber rings.
Telcorack.jpg

Here is the 7204 that handles our WAN circuit and below that is a 3560 that handles various VPNs/Voice/WAN connectivity.

Finally, here are the two 3560s that are handling IP connectivity for the phone systems. We do have some VoIP at this site but it is limited.

Networking p0rn! I love it!! Thanks so much for posting pics of your center. I just love seeing the pro's setups. I especially like the angled patch panels (as silly as that seems).

You wouldn't believe how much easier and cleaner it is to use the angled patch panels. I'll never go back to the flat ones.

Thanks for the pictures... I love to see these clean but crowded rooms :D
Nice cabling... never seen those angled patch panels before...

I saw them, those are made by Panduit.

Very nice networking pr0n here :D

From top to bottom, left to right:

Linksys WRT54G running DDWRT
Cable Modem, 5Mb/1Mb
24 port 10/100 3Com Managed switch
Monitor, mouse, keyboard :p
IBM Netfinity 5600 Single P3 1Ghz 1GB RAM, 36GB, 16GB SCSI HDD's, Tape drive, running every service known to man
Dell Poweredge 2300, now sold
Under it all, I have some random UPS's and power strips that I got from work. I really need to get one good UPS and clean up the wiring under there.

I got the rack for free from work, along with the switch, both servers, monitor, Hard drives, and mouse and keyboard. :D

Oh wow! I never heard of such a thing. You get a decent performance improvement with it?

hehe, im building a 100w amp :D but i have been working on it for a loooong time...

too many projects :(

You do realize that you aren't legally allowed to transmit greater then 1 watt in the US (from my understanding).

im a licenced amateur radio operator so i can do 1000 watts on anything within 2300-2310Mhz and 2390-2450 MHz... which includes some 802.11 channels

then again, 1000watts at those frequencies would basically be a microwave oven/death ray

Thats some really insane stuff there. Got any pictures of your projects :D

Ehh, I was going on word of mouth, and didn't take into account any one with licensing. Thanks for the info.

ya no you were right, 1W ERP is the max for part 15 (unlicenced) operation...

if i do operate under my licence i cant use encryption and my SSID has to be my call sign...

Looks like a cool project. Just be careful, rack mounting equipment is addictive!!

hehe, yeah already agree with you. I spent more on the rails than I did the whole unit. And I'm sure I'll spend more on other stuff because I'm thinking about a patch panel, but I just dont know if that would benefit me anyhow. I do want a rackmount switch though. I have one by encore, but just no ears for it. I have a 5 port gigabit, maybe its time for an 8 port rack mount or 15 port. hmm. lol. Oh not to mention that I'd like to get a nice rackmount case for my main rig, but since it will fit in the rack almost perfectly, I just cant see spending the money right now.

I will say... rails seem to be a bitch to get figured out. So many different sizes and I'm sure there are a million different screw pinouts and such. ah well.
