Got my Sharp Aquos LC-32GP1U "Gaming" 1080p display today!

That's good to know. I didn't realize Fry's had a decent return policy. I'm hoping Costco gets this thing soon...they did change their TV return policy but its still pretty good (90 days return for any reason I think plus 2 years repair or something like that...).
90 days is better than Fry's unless there's also a restocking fee. The general Fry's return policy on most products is 30 days for any reason with no restocking fees. Software, CDs, DVDs can only be returned if unopened or exchanged if defective. There are various exceptions as well like some items such as CPUs only being 15 days, GPSes have a 15% restocking fee, etc.

I've looked all over Fry's and the only one i found was the small versionwhich isn't interresting at all

EDIT: Sears also only have the LC32D43U

where can i get it in canada :(

i sent an email to sharp about this

The one I saw was in the Palo Alto store so I assume most if not all of the Bay Area stores carry it now. Dunno about the availability in other regions with Fry's stores.

Edit: oh did you mean the online store (aka outpost.com)? The online store doesn't carry nearly as much stuff as the retail stores do.

Yeah i was speaking of www.frys.com/

But still.. where in Canada(Montreal)

Are you sure about that?
I think they only offer 15 day return period now.
I bought a cooler for my cpu and returned it after 17 days only to end up with store credit. Fry's is somewhat hard to deal with.
I am sure if you bring this TV for return and they will bring out a magnifying glass.

woot !! :D
My shiny new "SHARP 32" 32D62U" is sitting in sealed box in living room !!
Circuit City, local store,
$1258 ....."30 Day, !00%, No-Hassle Refund, if you dont like it".
(All the online stores, the ones I visited, will NOT take this Sharp back. NewEgg says ("No Return / No Refund").
I bot the Standard (non-gamer) version that Derfman got and likes so much (read his excellent, detailed posts).
Thanks BM5 for this Thread, and all its fine info..

While I understand the benefits of buying locally, is it really worth giving up a DVI and an HDMI port as well as an extra feature (Vyper drive or whatever it's called)

Great, glad to hear about your purchase Zak! Please let me know how you enjoy the TV! And keep in mind, if the whites are killing your eyes, try turning down the backlight to the 0 setting. This is not the lowest it can go, the menu allows from -16 to +16 so its smack in the middle. It seems to be the sweet spot for me.

@ rthefley,

Since you prematurely hijacked this thread with comments like "DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU ARE WANTING TO USE IT FOR A MONITOR", you owe it to rest of the [H] community to go back and edit your first few posts to reflect your new findings. Someone else might read your initial comments and then make a bad conclusion about this TV if they don't keep reading further into the thread.

HB

I agree.. plus JMD FLA should edit his post with the quoted text also.. well, maybe.. I saw that and was like WTF? well. anyways.. on with the show!

Big thanks.I haven't opened the box yet as I wont be using the tv tor ~10 days.
I bot it now cuz they're flying off the shelves; only 1 CC around here still has them.
Btw, been to any fires lately? :D

Yes I'm sure, it's printed on the back of every receipt. As I mentioned above, some items are 15 days instead of the normal 30 days. CPUs are on the 15 day list but I don't see CPU coolers listed there though the list on the receipt is incomplete. I'm not sure why coolers wouldn't be the standard 30 days. It's possible the person handling your refund was just confused.

Yeah, I read the receipt. They keep tell me I only have 15 days to return on all product.
I have 2 copies of Fry's gift certificate now and it just sucks.

10 DAYS.... The suspense would kill me!

A friend always told me not to get a tv for computer use because of the lack of resolution support. If a monitor gets a non-native signal it will still display it, if a TV get another resolution than the 480P/720P/1080P it wont display at all.... So if that's true, will boot/bios, windows first install(when you dont have drivers intalled and the video card output a crappy resolution) show or i'll need a second monitor for this??

This is untrue, atleast with this TV. First off this TV could easily be a monitor just like the Westinghouse but it has a built in analog tuner for analog cable. This TV actually has displayed low resolutions properly with bars (800x600). My motherboards bios come up in widescreen format but do show on the TV just fine. Just as the whole boot up process does as well, and also on my dual boot selection screen. It doesn't miss a trick that my ViewSonic 2025 did do... It upscales all HD resolutions to fit the whole screen... But it does display bars on 4:3 ratio screens and yes it even told me at the top right corner the new resolution (800x600) briefly when it put the bars in for the menu screen in Star Wars Battlefront (which insists to stay 4:3 though gameplay resized to 16:9 1920x1080).

My ViewSonic insisted on stretching all 4:3 feeds that were sent to it, where this TV does not. You will get all screens to show on this TV, even if it was to for some reason stretch them, it won't reject them. Unless they are ABOVE the 1920x1080 resolution.

As you can probably guess from my post in the other thread, I have the one that ends in 62U... Basically the non gamer edition... the reason I went for that one was due to the fact it was the only one in retail stores, and its specs match the gamer edition minus a DVI port and the Vyper Drive which so far has only been reported to reduce input lag which doesn't seem to be a problem for me. I have played my PC games and my XBOX 360 with much joy, waiting on my brand new HDMI to HDMI cable to arrive to make good use of my PS3 on the TV.

But even though I have consoles out the wazoo, I am more of a PC Gamer these days, and I can just say it is wonderful for that, I played a game of Age of Empires 3 the other day online, and it didn't seem like it was too big at all for even an RTS. And once again, no real input lag that I could notice, everything seems on point, and I use a Razor Copperhead laser mouse, so if there was input lag, I would probably notice it since that mouse is dead on target.

Doesn't the non gamer version also lack the third HDMI port?

So you are paying more for minus a DVI port and HDMI port as well as a feature that is alleged to increase performance?

This is for people that are afraid to deal with Newegg. I have purchased from them yesterday for $1,119.00 +shipping and it has already shipped. This is the best price i could find. Although Buy.com has it for less, if you have the $15 off coupon. I would go with newegg for the reason that they assured me if it was defective they will send in a replacement. Even though it is a bulk order item. The customer rep even looked into my account and told me that it would not be a problem. Just letting you guys know that want the gaming edition, and is worried about the policy. Hope this helps guys.

well, it's cheaper than circuitshitty and for the gamer edition also.. looks pretty good.

Vuitton, can you give a link to Egg salesman who told you he'll "take back a defective unit"? Thats really great news. You bot the 32" Gamer version, right? Big Thanks in advance and eagerly waiting for your reply.

Im sorry that I am unable to give a link, the reason for that is because I spoke with them over the phone. I made 2 different calls and they told me the same thing even though they saw it was a bulk return policy, I was surprised. Even after reading some comments from other LCD TV's like 37 inch Westy, I noticed some people were able to get a replacement so I am pretty sure if you do call them and that is defective they will give you replacement. And yea it was the gamer edition, I cannot wait to see what this does. I am replacing my 27" viewsonic, my little brother is going to be happy with it LOL. I have to admit I too was worried about ordering online with the bulk policy in mind. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I live in canada(montreal), and Sears is pretty much the only place i could find where they have this tv and not be an online store.

Do you guys know other stores (Best Buy only have the non gamer version)

But something is weird on sears website: http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B000...213?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=16358351

They talk about the PC input(DVI logically, unless they are talking about DVI->HDMI) so it would be the gamer version, BUT they talk about 480P ... what the hell?!?!

(EDIT: yeah, I see now that you confirmed what I was worried about... it's not the 32GP1U.)

Anyway, I think you can get this TV either now or soon at Steve's TV in Kitchener. I haven't found a place in Toronto yet. Where abouts are you?

I guess the question that needs answering for those of us who like to buy in store is if Best Buy and/or Circuit City will have the gaming version in stock sometime soon.

I have used Newegg alot so that's good news if they will take a defective unit back...does this mean dead pixels too?

How do you hook up two computers to this monitor? One DVI and one VGA. I don't mind buying a new video card, but DVI switches are really expensive. Will a VGA to component cable work?

Certain displays will allow for VGA to component, others will not.

Well newegg is out of stock of the 32 inch model..... arghhhhh I wanted to order it today!!! Oh well a couple more days of research won't hurt. Man these things are flying out.... Would like to see more pics of all those owners setups and their shiny new lcds :)

the manual shows it's possible to hook vga to the DVI input of the screen (it's a DVI-I so it works with both). Then you can connect the other computer to one of the HDMI ports.

I'm in Montreal.... far far away from Steve's kitchen'n'stuff :(

How did you buy one for $1119? The site shows $1199.
Can you show me a screen shot of your order?
I would definitely jump on one if I can buy one for that cheap.

I think he made a typo, since he said Buy.com has it for less than the $1119 which isn't the case. He probably meant $1199. ;)

Well Frys in Phoenix, Arizona has the monitor for 1400...so if anyone in az can pick it up. I was thinkin bout pickin it up but not sure if its 1400.

I just noticed this on the Egg and not sure if someone has already mentioned this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889101116

It appears to be a 37" version 'gaming' monitor (37GP1U).

Is this basically the same monitor as the 32" just in a 37" version?

The only difference that I can tell is in the contrast ratios are slightly lower on the 37 vs the 32....and of course the price.

I think that if you can get this monitor at frys, costco, bb and cc should shortly follow with inventory....hopefully that will further drive down the price of both lcds.
