This can be a universal thread for posting SFF related Cebit stuff.

I know AeroCool is supposed to show a new case so hopefully someone can find this!

Here is the other news so far:
  • The new SilverStone SG03 which is about ready to start production and is due out at the beginning of May or maybe end of April.
  • AMD talks more about DTX - A press release about the progress of DTX was released and seen here.

CeBIT - Hannover, Germany -- March 15, 2007 --Further demonstrating its commitment to lead the world to energy-efficient computing, AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced strong ecosystem support for DTX, the open standard specification driven by AMD to enable the broad development of small form factor (SFF) PCs. DTX has been developed to empower industry stakeholders to deliver innovative, energy-efficient small form factor solutions that are smaller, quieter, and desktop-friendly, all while delivering rich visual experiences. Companies including Akasa, Albatron, ASUS, Asetek, Compucase, ECS, Founder, FSP, Gigabyte, Hedy, NVIDIA, Shuttle, SilverStone Technology, Thermaltake, and Tongfang have expressed support for DTX, as well as their intent to develop and bring innovative solutions to market designed that benefit both businesses and consumers.

I'll update this as more news stories are posted.

Are we likely to see an AMD 690G board from Abit? I am talking about an AMD version and not the Intel version (Fatality F-I90HD) which Abit is currently displaying at CeBIT. Or is Abit afraid that such a board will take sales away from their Nvidia version, the NF-M2 nView - now called Abit AN-M2.

were at got a link

The design was..not the front :).

They couldn't bring that case to the US because of copyright issues so they said they had a new case...we guess what, X-Gene already has the M40 design and Ultra has the "racer" one.

the reason the aerocube didn't come was because it was already here in the US.

Well...both of those are already in the US as well.
So is there a reason for why the cases are not in their aerocool.us site? Is their webmaster just too lazy to add the cases? :p

About their poor choice of chassis for the M40, I really think the X-Gene is one of the biggest waste of spaces of all cube cases. It could be a great case with 120mm fans and space for a tall HSF, but no, we're stuck with limited height for the heatsink and tinny 60mm fans behind it.

Well it was just released so probably not available yet. US sites are always the last to update...just look at Abit.

I think the X-Gene is a nice concept but you are right in that they waste space in that one area. you could just cut that part out and reinforce thus giving you 2x80 (or 1x120) and room for a large heatsink. The dual layer is really cool though.

if you look at the spec the areocool has a 120mm intake on the bottom 2 80mm exhaust on the bottom and the 1 80mm exhaust on the top. also you could cut out a section of the top deck to fit a tall heat sink for the cpu

pretty sweet deal i think im getting this case for sure. the all black on is much nicer looking that the silver and black

the xgene mini has a lot a potential but the 120mm fan doesnt get enough air with the front panel on, so i take it off while gaming, and there is only one 60mm fan and its on the front of the top, before the hd cage. i cut out those airholes on top deck, and then im going to put two 80mm fans, or just one in the hole with the top stock 80mm fan hole blowing in air, instead of out

It already exists is my point. The X-Gene Mini HTPC has been out for some time and is the exact same case with a different front.

Ok my bad, I don't know why I always thought the two fans at the back were 60mm, maybe it's because they're partially hidden when looking at the back.

Still that perforated plate diving the two compartments is totally unecessary. Not only does it limit the choice of heatsinks, it also blocks a considerable amount of airflow to a 120mm fan PSU. Sure cutting it takes care of that, but not everyone has tools/skills/desire to cut up a brand new case.

Probably another we won't see in the States, because they are stealing other manufacturer's case designs and basically just changing the faceplate.

I thought those were 60s as well. Guess not! The steel kills that case design. No handle and heavy as heck.

I believe it will be in the US since AeroCool informed me that this one will since the other couldn't be. I am a little concerned that the reasoning for one case doesn't apply to the next.

I guess we will see :)

I really like the idea of DTX....I'm gonna press abit (cause they are the only ones that love me :( ) and try to convince them to get a good DTX board that overclocks when the time comes for DTX to be standard.

mmmmm...DTX. I hope it doesn't take as long for overclocking boards to come out for DTX as it did for mATX.

Saw this Shuttle CarPC at Engadget:

I'm pretty excited about DTX, hopefully it's not long before DTX boards come out.

Oh, that Sapphire board looks hot. Hopefully it comes out soon and OCs like hell. :)

I wonder if Shuttle will get on board with DTX or fight it with proprietary stuff.

Is Intel also gonna adopt the DTX standard? Seeing as it was AMD that came up with it...

word is that the new nVidia 7050 gfx improve on 690.
On the other hand I seem to recall Gary Keys saying that he had an abit 690G board to test ...

Build your own... you know you want to... ;) http://www.logicsupply.com/index.php/cPath/23

I got a steal on a C2D Mobile and am going to put it in this soon: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856167011 We'll see how much impact dual core has on boot times (crosses fingers)... I'll bet an Opus fits where the ATX PSU is!

Shuttle boards are DTX. AMD is trying to tack a name to something that already exists! Just because they claim to launch a new form factor, it gets in the news. We'll see how many 'DTX' boards actually hit the shelves. Lame. Probably about as many as intel's "picoBTX" boards, which are basically overlong miniBTX boards.

What mainly defines a form factor is the number of expansion slots it has and two is already taken. Even ATX and microATX come in different sizes, but they are still labeled the same! Wiki even says something about miniDTX! Guess what the difference is? You guessed it: 1 less slot.

What a SFF is can be subjective, but board sizes need to be clearly defined. We don't need another manufacturer rolling in with another name.

Now that my panties have been rolled out... 3 slots is the magic number. One video card/2 peripherals or 1 double wide video card + a peripheral. It's perfect!

What are you talking about? Last time I checked Shuttle was using boards that were more like BTX then anything else. DTX can be mounted in an ATX case; you can't do that with a Shuttle XPC board. They're boards are proprietary, that means they don't conform to a board standard.

Yeah, I thought Shuttle boards were mini-ITX in width, but waay longer... maybe I'm mistaken. And I agree with sleepeeg3, 3 is the magic number.
