DreamScene (Preview) -- Check WU/MU/UE Portal

Anyone else notice the free Dream that comes with the demo is titled "Vid 1337"?

Well dreamscene preview just caused "Graphics Driver not responding" errors every few seconds when I tried it now afer an Ultimate Update.

This is with an 8800GTX and 100.59 Forceware.

I can confirm the problem here. I tried it with an 8800GTX and the 100.59 drivers and had the same problems. I tried again after installing the new 100.64 drivers and it's working perfectly now.

Mind sharing your system spec's? I get nothing but stutter on dual screen, and you seem to have none.

No prob.

Thanks a bunch, it looks like my GPU is to blame. Videos are smooth, just .dreams are stuttering. Its a Quadro NVS 120 with 522MB of dedicated video ram if anyone's wondering. (My work PC)

A note on the distracting part, its going to become an art form to create nice HD desktop clips. Just like there was when custom wall papers started to become popular. I could imagine a camera on a tripod recording the sun set, or ice melting would become very popular. Currently were trying it with any HD clips we can get our hands on. =-)

Since this can be done... what about having your favorite game be your desktop while you check e-mail.

So you can keep an eye on it to know when to switch back.

Have wow running while you work.. so queing up for that long raid isn't such a big deal. ;)

that'd be cool, but why not just set the game as a window in first place?

Actually, maximized window mode is very close to what Grimlaking wants. The only thing is it hides the desktop because it is effectively a full screen borderless window.

So where do you get this Dreamscene thing from? I just recently ordered my new pc and am currently waiting for all of the parts to arrive so I can put it together but I already got my Vista Ultimate sitting at home in it's box looking oh so lonely.

Here's the basic specs of my new pc...

e6700
P5N32-E SLI
BFG 8800GTX OC
2GB Corsair XMS2
Western Digital 250GB SATA HD
Creative Labs X-Fi Gamer

I can't wait for the parts to arrive!:D

You download it from the Ultimate Extra's section of the Windows Update Control Panel.

It's the only way you can get it.

Yeah, the 100.64 drivers are already a huge leap over the .59 variant. My gaming framerates are up to XP par, at least in Valve games.

Dreamscene is an Ultimate Extra, and so I'd say no, it'll never be released for other editions. But I'm sure there are some wily coders hard at work presently trying to find out why that's so and how to bring Dreamscene to any Vista owner at all.

Considering that most people don't sit there staring at a Desktop with nothing on it (no open windows, applications, etc), it does seem more of a gimmick and eye-candy, you'd think.

NOW, if someone finds a way to do live video, or streams, aka like the ActiveDesktop idea years ago, which would in some ways negate the need for things like the gadgets on the Sidebar, that would kick ass. Instead of a weather gadget that tells you the simple stats in your area, why not have The Weather Channel just streaming content to your Desktop so you don't have to keep looking over at your TV, etc...

Methinks Hauppauge probably has "Desktop TV" in progress and already in the works. Mind you I've been using TV tuners in computers since the late 80s, so this ain't something I haven't expected or been waiting on, nor is the concept new, but with Vista's abilities, patching the input from a TV tuner directly into a Desktop texture shouldn't be difficult at all.

Can't wait to see someone make it a reality...

There are a few ways to submit feedback directly to the folks who made DreamScene, and you probably can have your voice get heard as to features you'd want in a future release of DreamScene.

For now, you can see if you can find a way to contact those nice folks over @ WindowsUltimate.com

With the update windows did today the new dreams look pretty good compaired to the one they gave you to test with... Some nice scene's!

Loving DreamScene

I'm using this one here
http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=24&libid=50
(1440x1080) Shrink to fit on my dual 1280x1024 monitors though

Look bad ass, uses ~10% of both cores on my FX-60.

Two nice things (well one not for me, but I won't complain)
-Pauses anytime something is maximized (not very cool for dual monitors as I can still see the other, but I can see what they were aiming for), looks pretty neat through Aero Glass too
-Pauses anytime you launch a game

while paused its just like regular wallpaper takes 0 CPU
This is pretty freaking cool I hope to see more of these.

I think the best dreamscene content would be something that's repetitive so the loop isn't obvious, like water flowing, rain, or wind blowing a grass field. Like not something you'd actually watch on your free time, but if you only have one window open and not maximized it's nice to notice the background moving a little.

I think they've done a pretty good job so far with what's released, plus I know they have a few more good ones that I've seen in keynotes. I just hope they keep releasing them maybe every few months or something. It would be nice to get some more high resolution backgrounds too (I really like some of the included backgrounds)

Check windows update. There is now a DreamScene content pack available for download. Has 4 looped videos.

I checked windows update and it says there is no ultimate extra content available. I don't get the content pack even though I installed Dreamscene in Feb. Anyone have the same problem?
