does ps3 suck?

that's really all you have to say?
rambling off future 360 releases that who knows how they'll end up?
must be new to internet console debating.
don't worry, it's gets old fast.

well, it's not really a "does the ps3 suck?" issue. What it should read on the topic header is something like "Why should I care about ps3?"

Here's the way I see this:

If you like Blu-ray and RPG's where developers load tons of metrosexual CG-material and can get by without Mistwalker games , get the ps3.

If you like macho-man western-style games like Gears of War and can get by without God of War III, get a 360.

Or win-win and get both!!!

I would like to own both, but god damn that's 1000 bucks!

Now to answer your question... does the ps3 suck?
Nah, just the assholes over at Sony.

It's funny how attitudes can change so quickly. If you would have asked this question a month ago I bet most people's responses would have been, "Yes it sucks - HARD!"

Now a few decent games come out and Sony shows some of its tricks at GDC and now the most defiant answer you get to this question is, "Of course the PS3 doesn't suck but I think that the 360/Wii is better."

I guess Sony is actually doing something right! It also shows something about the kind of people who contribute to this forum, many may be fan boys (me included), but they are generally fairminded and are not afraid to give props when due. It says a lot about the caliber and maturity of the posters around here!:)

I'm not sure that's the case though. There are a couple specific posters who do nothing but bash the PS3, but they haven't commented for the past few days. They were extremely active around the PS3 launch, though. I'm guessing the less venomous console fans have taken over. Well, at least for the short term.

A temporary lieu of Sony's stupidity, and people seem to have magically forgotten how bad they are, and that the console has very few games while being far more expensive than the Wii or the 360. At $600, you can almost go buy an SLI 8800GTS setup, or a GTX and more RAM, to pump up your PC's gaming FAR more than the trumped-up graphics (that aren't really that good) of the PS3 can deliver. Or, you can go buy a 360 and several games, or a Wii+360, or a 360+half an LCD HDTV (there are sometimes deals for $500/32" LCD HDTV lately... I got a nice one for $475 shipped recently). I'll say it again... the PS3 is simply a horrible option right now for the money. It offers nothing more than the 360 except an anemic line-up, and has worse online for the forseeable future. The Wii is more fun, although different, than the PS3, to most people, but the 360 just does a crushing job of making the PS3 look silly. It's not that there's anything WRONG with the PS3, it just hasn't evolved like the rest of the industry has (new controls, or better online + more graphical horsepower). Instead, it just delivers more of the same, period.

Were you trying to prove that the previous poster's oppinion that the less rabid !!!!!! were gone or still alive and kicking?

Right, so you say the 360 is better because it is cheaper and then say it is better because it has better online. Four years of XBL costs $200!!!! So, which is it!?!? You can have one or the other, NOT BOTH! Great argument!

after GDC it looks like Sony really has stepped up to the bar. if you can say that what they are doing with Home and Little Big World is gay then you deserve to have no console. Hopefully they will also show devs some better ways to make games for the PS3 so that it isn't so hard or w/e (that was the biggest complaint). its off to a rough start.....which is nothing new to any console. I think ppl are hating on the PS3 bcs it had such big expectations from EVERYONE of it just flying off the shelves like the PS2 did, on top of that M$ made that important decision of rlsing Gears when they did.

It's actually better AND cheaper...You can in fact have both, because you will find nobody that believes that ps3's online aspect is as good as the 360's. Cost factors in value. Xboxlive is simply better, and paying 3 bucks a month (less than I spend to park my car every day) for a guaranteed online experience over the next 5 years is worth more than paying 200 bucks more for a ps3 where the multiplatform games don't look or perform as well, and has a weak lineup with nothing coming up that I care about.

If you want free, enjoy, but don't delude yourself that it's better than or equal to xboxlive.

The PS3! Because you can pay 200 bucks more for 5 years of free mediocre online play!@

exactly.. not gonna happen. Porn was released on laserdisc and we all know how that turned out, the porn industry does have alot of clout, but mainstream consumers have more.

And Sony supported (developed) Betamax...Remind us again how that turned out...No, the same thing won't happen again, and I'm almost certain Blu-Ray will be successful, but so will HD DVD. The Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD and console war won't have a clear winner anytime soon..

To answer the original question though, no the PS3 does not "suck" and neither does the 360 or Wii.

Playstation Home looks kinda gay. There, I said it. It might be cool but at this point, it doesn't look like something that will interest me. It just doesn't. I want to see if they provide actual functionality (a la the XBL dashboard) or if it's just a bunch of glitz with no substance before I declare it a great idea. I don't want to run around and look at others' apartments. I want to play games with friends and find out what they are doing online. If they provide better functionality for that aspect of the system, kudos to them.

Props to Little Big World, though. That game looks interesting.

Nooblar @ Forum, ur statement is laughable at most.

No one cares about the cost of the online for $3/mo. when it provides such a great service. The PS3's is free, but who knows if it's going to be any good. Also, I'm quite sure they won't be providing an XBL-level experience for free, knowing Sony. Online is an add-on feature, not a part of the unit's cost. Truth stings, I guess  , I don't know why you're so uptight about which console is "better". I'm just stating my opinion, but you cannot seem to refrain from flaming with hyperbole consistently. Meh  .

i dont see why people think its so expensive...think of it like this ps3's free online play equals out the price say you buy a 360 and use the online for 5 years thats about $600 = ps3.........

A) Quality of online
B) Not everyone even buys the online, and if so, not neccessarily for 5 years
C) Online is not considered part of a console's price typically

F1 is garbage. The reviews are horrible. Tekken 5 is a cool download only port, and VF5 will be out for the 360 and is a timed exclusive only. Motorstorm is moderately fun, but has only 8 tracks and mixed reviews. Personally I like it, but it's a fairly ho-hum racer with cool visuals but not much depth.

F1 is hardly garbage, like another poster said look at many of the very good reviews.

I personally am a Huge f1 fan, and have been playing this game more than VF5 and Motorstorm combined. It may not appeal to your casual racer, or non race fans, but to anyone who loves F1 it is an amazing game. There are Europeans who are buying a PS3 this early soley to be able to play this game. By no means is this title lacking.

Honestly though, what does xbl do that sony's system right now doesn't? The main thing is the unified, persistent gamer tags. This can and will probably be put in place through software sometime in the next year. Obviously their infrastructure isn't as strong, but with newer technology and microsoft's example to look at theirs will progress far quicker. Hell, sometimes its a huge advantage to be able to start from the ground up when your competitor is stuck working with an existing system.

As for not considering it in the price- there's only 1 other company that runs its own online service, so there really isn't a solidly established precendent for whether the service should be free or not. The services that xbl provides could be more than made up for by advertising or microtransaction sales. Its not even hosting any games, its just matchmaking. The more people you get online, the more money you make.

I don't understand how people can say XBL is SOOO much better than PS3 free online. PS3 online provides me with a buddy list, players met, message inbox/outbox, games that support MP I've had no problems with.... I mean what exactly makes XBL SOOO much better in terms of quality?

On top of that HOME can basically be used for anything..... turn your apartment into a clan hall, have pictures of maps, strats on the walls, if you can create movies you can stream them in HD quality in your apartment, your able to chat using a keyboard and MIC, I'm not sure why people think.. XBL is the selling point for X360....

Someone talking about why didn't the PS3 bring something new to the controller... uhm... Bluetooth wirless + SIXAXIS (you don't like it? I don't care) and the ability to be up to 7 players.... what exactly did X360 redevelop with their controller? Make it white?

You can tell who is a f4nb0y and who isn't. I plan on getting X362 when it comes out, but that doesnt mean I'm going to be sitting here going OMG XBL IS THE WHOLE REASON I BOUGHT THIS THING.... If anything it seems as though the X360 fans are scared to admit that something might be better than what they invested a bunch of money and time in, and they are so hard headed to accept anything else.

And for someone to say that you would be better off upgrading your PC than buying a PS3... that is just retarded. I am a huge PC fan, but I'm so sick of having to upgrade my PC every 3 months to be able to play the next new game at Recommended settings. PC is fun, but at the same time its a joke when it comes to cost. You want to be a hardcore PC gamer, you better have the budget of bill gates. PS3 maybe an expensive buy, but how much time are you going to have and use that PS3.... 3-4 years? $600 bucks in 4 years > 1-3 grand to keep your PC up to date in 4 years.

Im honestly expecting the Sony hate to increase tenfold as the good news slowly starts to mount for the PS3 and its games list starts to pull even further away from the available quality Wii titles. The rabid wii only ppl will just start grasping at thin air to throw everything they have at Sony.
All i can apologize for is that i get to have fun with all 3 systems, including the PS3 and you are missing out on some good times.

I know this is your rant but this is a little silly.

The sixaxis isn't anything new. MS introduced it long time ago with the Sidewinder PC controllers. It sucked then. It sucks now. Maybe later a FEW games will take advantage of it. But as it stands, it's the true Gimmick of controllers and features.

And the wireless capabilities of the PS3 controller and the 360 controller is a moot point. They are both wireless and both turn on the system. At least with the 360 with any new update I don't have to plug in the controller with a cable. It's also a super comfortable controller that most people like.

Does the X360 do WiFi? My PS3 does... and having to connect the controller to the PS3 to update I see as a security feature. I live in an apartment and if anyone were to have a PS3 below or to the sides of me, they might be able to power mine on, and who knows what could happen, but having to plug the controller in means I have to be in the room with my PS3 to update it, and I like that.

Of the few games that are out that can take advantage of SIXAXIS it works really well, and thats doing more than what the X360 controller is doing. flOw (though cheap) is an excellent game that uses basically ONLY the SIXAXIS (all buttons on controller are used for boost) MotorStorm Demo (i havent been able to pick up full game yet) allows me to use the controller as a steering wheel... though not perfect, in time they might be able to get more control out of the controller.... As for super comfortable, I've been gaming with PS1 controllers for I don't know how long, so I am accustomed to the PS3 controller.

Uh. depending on what PS3 you buy you don't have WiFi built in. But yes my 360 does WiFi. Security feature?! LOL Paranoid much? You still have to sync your controller to the PS3. You can't just open a controller and turn on any PS3 around ya.

And no the games that use the sixaxis are gimmicky. Flow is roughly a 2 hour empty game that everyone played fine in Flash on PCs for a while now. Motorstorm (I have the full game) sucks using the sixaxis for steering. It is horribly unresponsive. Qbert: Why? Resistance I got to shake teh controller whenever somethign grabbed me which rarely happened. I've been gaming since the PS1 controllers too. So what? I still can judge if a controller feels as though more time was put into its design feel.

Sixaxis is not the gimmick. Its an added capability. If it is in fact an added gimmick feature, that only makes the Wii controller 100% gimmick. As most of its games dont use the controller properly either. Tacked on like 90% of wii game reviews complain.

QFT. The sixaxis functions as a normal controller, whereas the wii one relies on the motion sensing. The wii controller doesn't even have enough buttons to play snes games comfortably.

Don't point me to reviews of ports of a game. I'm so sick of that

Zelda, Rayman, Excite truck, Dragon Ball Z, SSX Blur, Wario, Sonic, Kororinpa: Marble Mania are all getting decent reviews and all work with the controller in mind.

um...ok

Thats why you get the classic controller for snes games.

I might also add, I was commenting on PS3 controller to 360 comment Baker stated.

Ohh so now just to play regular games we have to go buy an EXTRA controller?!? the humanity!

(yes i have 2 classic controllers)

Just making a point.

All of that aside netrat. I was just thinking about this. Its funny, you have a ps3/wii maybe a 360 i dont know, i also do. But isnt it interesting the different views owners of both systems can have. I think that just further puts this whole console vs console argument into another level of insanity. Its obvious that we all have our different tastes in what we enjoy and each system can cater to any of those.

Yes you have to buy new controllers. So what? You also never had one machine able to play ever classic system and play your newer games too.

Yes, like my sig says I have all 3 and love all 3. I honestly don't get the full on hatred of each seeing how they all offer great choices.

I think it's laughable to say the 360 controller sucks when the PS3 controller really isn't offering anything mindblowing while taking away features (rumble). I'll admit I did get sidetracked with the wii argument.

I hate the rumble feature, I hated the Rumble Pack for N64, and turn it off for all my games. Its more of a destraction to me than anything. Rumble feature means the controller is probably going to weight a bit more... Right now they are super duper light.... I'm just glade that they made the contoller like the PS2 instead of that silly looking boomarang looking thing.

The system just came out what do you expect? It's a secondary function so of course it's not going to be used in all the games. Wii's motion stuff is it's primary use of it's controller so you would expect more games with it (also some suck like Madden). If you want more games that support Sixaxis then guess what.....WAIT!!!!! Your all some impatient people.

You might hate it. I'm not 100% sold on it either to be honest. But many people like it. And yes thank god it didn't end up the boomarang.

Like I pointed out, MS introduced this long time ago in there sidewinder series. The comment was made about it being innovative.

And yet I was responding to this post from you:

Oh yeah, no flaming or hyperbole in that post! (except maybe one or two bits in bold ) I never even said that the PS3 was "better" I simply stated that it was incorrect to say that the 360 was cheaper AND had better online because then you are not factoring the cost of online. You have just proved to me that you are probably a 12 year old. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You're the one bringing the hyperbole and flaming to this thread! I guess I made my comment that people on this forum were all classy and mature too soon. You are doing a great job proving to everyone that your opinion is worthless.

He's doing the same thing over in the "thoughts on the wii?" thread.

Personally I think both the Sixaxis motion controls AND the Wii-mote are gimmicky until some games make them something more. They have that "feature" turned off in Motorstorm by default for a reason. It's still better then Excitetruck, but seriously...it's bad.

Background downloading, the ability to check in on friends without leaving a game, sending/receiving messages in-game, etc... To run XBL, you basically never need to leave a game. That's very nice when you're online.

This made me laugh out loud. . . . Worried someone might aim their controller nefariously through the wall to....what....update your console? omg no!

Whenever I play PS3 games I sit there constantly annoyed at the fact that the ps3 controller weighs like 3 ounces. The Dualshock felt better, and the 360 controller sits perfectly in the hands for me. It's so much better than the POS original xbox controller.

This made me laugh out loud. . . . Worried someone might aim their controller nefariously through the wall to....what....update your console? omg no!

would you like if someone updated your pc wirelessly without your consent? serious question.
