I was putting a video card in my pc and i accidentally pushed this small black piece with a copper wire wrapped around it off. It says 2.2 FALCO 0419 incase that means anything to someone. Should I solder or super glue it back on?

thanks

if you arent joking, i would SERIOUSLY advise not trying to fix it yourself. get someone whos is really good with a soldering iron to do it...

well i figure i could solder it back myself. how hard could it be?

i thought super glue might be ok because i could glue it by the plastic and the metal parts would be connected.

It can definitely be done. I once knocked a couple sm components off a K7N2 Delta motherboard and soldered them back on without a hitch with some solder paste and a hot air pencil.

It takes experience, the right tools, and above all, patience. Can be done with a pencil iron, but a hot air pencil is much better.

If you had to ask, you might want to get someone with more soldering experience to do it :)

Sound like an inductor. Or an impedence matching coil.

With some Pics I might be able to give you some tips on soldering it back on.

Did micro level soldering for the navy for 4 years and

IPC-610 Certified.

Problem is Soldering is hard to do from written instructions..

I was thinking inductor too. Its nice to know some people here actually know what they are talking about.....

ninja like soldering skills... LOL.... super glue.... ROFL!

I do micro soldering (402 and 204 packages) on hardware prototypes all the time, even shit that small is easy just tedious, you'd have to a retard to mess is up beyond repair.

to OP: I say solder it on, any monkey can solder an inductor, esp. one that you can see the coil on.

As far as instructions go, there are lots of soldering tutorials online. For you, I'd recommend getting a small blob of solder on a hot and clean iron place the part where it goes with tweezers and touch the iron to the pad, repeat with other side. Personally I dislike this method but its easiest for beginners.

Yes with a low power soldering iron (15w max), not a soldering gun. Key is to not put too much heat into the board. Too much heat = scorched components, or even worse, lifing pads on the board..

Well this is interesting; I had the same problem and i googled "video card 2.2 Falco 0419" and this is the only link I found =D

I took some photos of my card and the inductor that fell off, so I'll post them here. I also was wondering about the superglue idea because it seems (when I look at the card) that it was superglued to begin with! Rather, it looks like there is some shiny glue-like residue left on the card near where the inductor was. As well, the latest time I soldered anything was in middleschool, and I'm 25 now...and recently moved so i have almost nothing useful with me =/

I hope these photos are alright, I reduced their size a bit so they wouldn't be 1.5-2mb anymore.

I first noticed an issue with the card when I tried to run a game and the display glitched out and then said 'no input'. I figured maybe I messed up the install when I mistakenly moved the entire folder (and subsequently moved it back before opening up the game). Then a few reboots down the line in after a few days, even on a reboot I would see glitches on the screen. I began to worry... I figured the chip on teh videocard could not be fully dead..the computer simply would not boot up if that was the case, but maybe it was partially messed up. So i opened up my box, took out the card, dusted off the HSF and put it back in. I only noticed the inductor rattling around the case when I was trying to find an errant screw (which, naturally, turned out to be on the table -_-).

Is it safe to run the computer with this inductor off in the meantime? I don't intendt o try play games, but I could really use this box up and running for the purpose of basic internet browsing and so on. If it's not really fixable, I guess I have to buy a new card, but the thing is this box has an AGP style mobo @_@ I might as well buy a new mobo with pci-e, and that would likely mean new RAM (possibly new chip) etc.... which is a hassle I cannot deal with right now =/ gah... well I've digressed considerably, please enjoy the photos and let me know if you need alternate angles or so on.
