just received my foxconn 6150k8md from ewiz :)

Yes, the board seems to have a 220fsb bug. I sold mine to a buddy and picked up a 6100K8MA board from ewiz (no OC issues with the -MA boards, currently running at 260fsb). It's too bad foxconn refuses to release the bios that was used for the tweaktown review. When I previously asked for the review bios they changed the date on the Jan bios to the date of the review bios and gave me that!

How hard is it to make a board with DVI that overclocks? The ATI based DFI has the least amount of issues, but I'd rather have working USB than a DVI port.

If you don't care about overclocking this board is perfect, otherwise there are better options.

Update- I decided to try nTune to automate testing and am finally making some progress with my 6150K8MD. Dropped the HTT settings to 4X-3X-3X and the memclk to 166. So far it is stable at 9.0 x 242 (2.18Ghz), a 21% O/C. With the CPU clock at 242, the 166 memclk setting actually runs the memory at 201mhz (should have some headroom there, as I'm using pc3500).

That's the point. The board could run faster then 229Mhz. I tried with my CPU 260 Mhz and it run stable (when setting a higher VCore).

Does anybody know a software which can set the FSB during the Windows boot?

BTW: We should all mail to support everyday. Sometimes they'll give us the bios. :p

It didn't matter what my vcore or dividers were. Perhaps a better bios would have helped me, or maybe my particular board was an especially weak sample. I'm done bitching for another bios, I give up! I'll be happy with the 6100ma board until decent c2d matx boards are released.

Hey, how come nTune only allows up to 250 on the CPU clock (manual adjustment)? My 6150K8MD's BIOS will (waaaay over-optimistically) let me set it as high as 450!

Kann anyone try this:

Use the SuperStep Utility and set something about 230Mhz, then apply and close SuperStep. The check with CPU-Z if it is set correctly.

If yes, reboot your PC (NOT SWITCH IT OFF, REBOOT!).

What says CPU-Z now?

Good & Bad News:
The link you left seems to have the same bios date 01/23/06 as my board and contains the version 5B321P10 and NVMM (I think it stands for - Non Volitale Memory Module).
Good news , I think the procedure is to:
Enable Configuration Data which is under the PnP/PCI configuration screen.
Increase your Vcore (I set my 3000+ Ventice to +140mv.
Increase your DDR voltage (I set my pc3200 to 0.05mv more, thats 2.65mv).
Boot into windows and use the Step program to increase in steps of 10 while applying.
Suggest you first go to 230 - 249 first, Reboot (Don't Power off ! ).
In BIOS increase FSB to FSB you left in Step program setting.
I'm not sure but this should match the setting seen in NVMM with BIOS.
Boot into Windows accept last Step program setting and increase furthur.
In BIOS increase FSB to FSB you left in Step program setting.
I was able to increase FSB in the Step program to 350mhz, but performance was no better than 270mhz(I also increased my PCIE clock to 110mhz just in case).
I was also able to boot at 260mhz.

I'm not quite sure about the interaction between NVMM , Reset Configuration Data, Cool & Quiet, Win. Power settting (min. power allows multiplier to change often).
Make it easy on yourself (I did and sent the guy $5 via PayPal) and get ClockGen, just google it. Boot at 220 fsb & increase via ClockGen.
I'm done overclocking much until my larger Southbridge heatsink gets here. I'll also be doing a somewhat ugly placement of another heatsink on top of my Northbridge heatsink.

Bad News:
Powering down seems to clear the NVMM and therefore disallows any FSB set higher than 220mhz. Occationally you might also have to reset the cmos.
Disabling the Reset Configuration Data setting in the BIOS can also cause a mismatch which gives us that damn BIOS message to reduce the FSB.

All in all my 3000+ Ventice has went from Interger 16953 , Float 1805 to 21805 & 23611 as read with Sisoft Sandra, with my FSB at 260mhz, Prime95 runs fine. Thats a CPU core of 1.8Ghz to about 2.35Ghz, and almost reaches a base fx 53 at 2.4Ghz as listed by Sisoft Sandrea 2007 lite.

After additional testing, I can not suggest the 6150k8md unless a BIOS fix is made to overclock. My previous post of an overclock procedure has many holes and will just waste your time unless foxconn fixes their BIOS & NVMM bugs.

If anyone else knows the best procedure , Please Post !!!
I am baffled by the many time wasting reboots (cold, hard, power down) required to overcome either BIOS stops or messages to reduce the FSB.
At this point, I can not AGAIN figure out how to boot at 260mhz fsb (not sure if my previous boot was successful from a powered off state). I know it booted many times at 260 fsb in the BIOS, but this may have been my system reboot initiated only.

Foxconn has flatly stated in forum copied emails:
------ " We do not support overclocking". ---------http://www.hardforum.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1030203031#
Mad
Enough said... , then WHY DO THEY GIVE USE SuperUtility -> SuperStep and nTune !!!
Furthermore the review at Tweak Town shows a BIOS with a Hammer Adjustment (which users DO NOT GET).http://www.hardforum.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1030203031#
Mad

If you can get Foxconn to release a better bios you're my hero. I wasn't able to do that.

I'm referring to my self initiated system reboot and then an intermittent stop of BIOS with only first line of 6150k8md xxxxxxx.
I now enabled the SuperBoot in BIOS option and it works great to boot at 220mhz and goes quickly into XP where ClockGen is set to automatically OC 9 x FSB to 274.6 = 2.471 Ghz core.
SuperBoot also fixed a problem where the BIOS would look at my 2nd Hard drives which has Vista on it and say it could not find boot partition (unless I hit ESC and selected HD 1 instead of HD 2).
Sisoft Sandra 2007 lite show Integer / Float at 22747 / 24601 which beats the comparison of an Athlon FX 53 2.4 Ghz. Prime95 running inplace Large FFT for an hour now while Sandra does benchmark.
I also replaced my south bridge heat sink 30mm x 30mm with a taller one which lowered my temperature about 10 F.
Nice bump for a Venice 3000+ , Ahhhh .

ClockGen automatically selects the nVidia C51 PLL.
It's listed inside the clockgen.exe via a strings command as (C51XE) nVidia C51, and may be the one listed in readme.txt file as nVidia Geforce 6100/6150.
Highly suggest ClockGen !

Can NOT suggest the foxconn 6150k8md as a Non-powered down reboot can still cause the BIOS to hang.
Dave

on topic of things causing the bios to hang:

when i installed vista rc2 on my second hard drive, whenever i restarted my computer it wouldn't post. if i turned it off and back on then it'd be fine though. scared the shit out of me when it was doing the last couple restarts for installing it. it's fine now that i removed vista though. anyone else have this problem?

Most likely your boot problem really was not much related to Vista but , due to the NVMM on the motherboard. The way i see it , many configuration changes ( OS speed setting by SuperStep, boot sector and master boot record of hard disk to name just a few) are stored in the NVMM. Code in the BIOS checks the NVMM for any changes and if any exist it may jump to a number of non standard subroutines and hang. Many times this can be corrected by powering down or rebooting without Superboot, or changing the FSB, or in your case you could have tried hitting the ESC key to see a menu list of boot disks.
Vista modifies the Boot sector and or MBR.
After replacing my 2nd IDE HD with a SATA I got rid of the annoying change on HD 1 by using the fixmbr (which did not work) and then fixboot command which removed the HD 2 reference. Vista does not use the boot.ini in the same way as previous Win OS's.
As for my status of boot problems, I no longer use SuperStep (deinstalled it) but only ClockGen to change my boot speed automatically.

If anyone know of good fan speed program , please let me know.
I also need an overclocking program for Linux.
Dave

mine was failing more than that; i couldn't even hit esc to see my boot options or [del? i forgot] to get into the bios. it started hanging before it recognized the cpu at all.

Hello Carrera,
Please tell us how you compare the two MB's.
Since I modified my southbridge heat sink I'm not going to try to return the foxconn,
but I am satisfied even with the initial hassels.
I've not tried the HD video yet but the sound is nice, and the MB only has the single CPU fan which runs most of the time at 1200 rpm.
Tip ! ... I bought an Arrow 550 watt 120mm fanned power supply on ebay from user34577 pcimicrocom for only $16 and it runs slow and quiet.
I'll be getting a wireless keyboard / mouse and connecting it to my HD 26" LCD , Now if only I could find a decent tuner / remote which works with the existing HD DVI output?

Tell us can you OC alot (assuming prime95 runs) from the BIOS and which CPU are you using.

I would have kept my DFI if I wanted a full size board. I really don't understand why Foxconn won't release the review bios.

Maybe Abit will release a 6xx based board along the lines of the nview

@kdave

I think the K8N Neo4 is much better. The performance without overclocking is about 3% better. MSI uses an active cooling for the mainboard so overheating is no problem. Also the support is much better, there's a new bios out and i't won't be the last if you find bugs or things anoying you. Also the utilities are useable and MSI provides the configurationfiles for nTune. :D

Then overclocking:
MSI doesn't restrict anything, you can overclock up to 400Mhz FSB in 1Mhz stepps.
You can increase the VCore upt to +20% und by the RAM you can set everything you would like to try.

I don't miss my Foxconn Board, I try to sell it for 35€ to somebody who just want's to work with his PC, therefor it's perfekt.

Finally I say, the 6150K8MD was my first Foxconn Board and my last Foxconn Board.

Well good by for now Carrera and thanks for your input.
Please drop in later and give us your Overclocking results (cpu ,fsb, core) with your new K8N.

My computer runs now at:
CPU 2,71Ghz
FSB: 271 (I use Multiplier 10 because I get a better speed for the RAM)
VCore: 1,46V

I stopped at that point because at the moment I only use a Freezer 64Pro and the CPU becomes 53°C hot. I'M now looking for a better cooller, maybe the the Synthe Infinty.
I shortly tried 3Ghz and it worked but the CPU goes very fast up to 60°C and then I stopped.

PS: I found someone who gives me 40€ for my old Foxconn MB. :D

Hello All,
Anyone have any tips or experience with connecting the DVI out connection to a HD TV or montior ?
Any experience with using a HD or NTSC Tuner with remote?

Finally I say, the 6150K8MD was my first Foxconn Board and my last Foxconn Board.

Yes, same here. Foxconn's support, compared to someone like say, DFI, Abit or Asus, is less than non-existent. Where's the freakin' updated BIOS, schmucks? I just sent away for a DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR Expert from Newegg. By the time I get all my rebates back, my cost will be about $97 for a REAL motherboard. And by Xmas, I should be able to pick up something along the lines of a 7600 GT videocard for less than $80. Buy.com has a 7600 GS right now for $50 after rebates, for example.

Plus, odds are that the NF4 SLI-DR Expert is supported by Motherboard Monitor. The 6150/430 chipset combo isn't supported (came out after MBM5 ceased being updated).

Update: after rebuilding my system with a DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert motherboard and an EGVA 7600GT CO videocard (HSF, PSU, Memory, etc. all the same), I am now running at a stable 2.86GHz (317x9) with the same Opteron 165 (CCBBE 0617) and pc3500 Corsair RAM. Waiting on delivery of some OCZ Gold VX 2-2-2-8 pc4000 RAM to really goose this puppy. I've relegated the Foxconn mobo to a SFF machine, running an AMD64 3000+ Venice at 206x9. Amazing what you can do with a properly engineered motherboard (not Foxconn, obviously).

Hi all, Im new on this forum! :)

Im owner of this mb and I've a couple of questions:
- does also your mb sound a beep when you power on or reboot?
- does also your mb freeze sometimes on post, displaying only cpu model?
Mine has this problems (and also all bad things discussed here) and, before to rma it, I would be sure that mine aren't general problem...
Thanks and best regards all,
M

P.s. Using clockgen, I get my 3200+ venice working rock solid @ 2900 mz, so a bios update could solve surely our OC issues... Damn Foxconn :p

hi, and welcome to the forum.

mine also beeps whenever i power on or reboot. as for the freezing on post, mine also did that when i had vista rc2 installed, and only when the computer would reboot. if i turned it off and back on then it would boot up fine. before installing vista, i never ran into the problem. after switching back to xp, i never ran into it again.

Exactly what happens with mine!
So they're general problems and rma is useless....
I don't understand why foxconn doesn't release a new bios, wich could solve these issues, last is 1 year old.
Their support is nonexistent, I've wited them 2 times and 2 times they said me to contact my reseller for a test...
I've also linked them tweaktown review of our mb, in wich they talk about a new bios wich doesn't exist (Im searching it from 3-4 months), but I got nothing...

Im thinking to write a third email to foxconn, but if Im alone I think they will ignore our issues again...
In italian forums I don't find users with this mb, but here I'm not alone:
who wants to partecipate in my third mail can send me his email in pvt, I will include it when I'll write to foxconn, hoping they will not ignore again our issues.
Let's make hear our voice! :)

For everyone whom has been stuck with the original P10 BIOS (1-23-2006) that came with their Foxconn 6150K8MD motherboard, F/C has FINALLY released a new P11 BIOS, dated 5-7-2007. I flashed the BIOS on my mobo and have been able to get the clock speed up as high as 223MHz before seeing the typical bootscreen error, whereas before, the maximum obtainable using the SuperSpeeder BIOS setting was about 208MHz.

Here's the updated BIOS page for: "BIOS File 6150K8MD-8EKRSH 5B3W1P11 369KB"
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/service/downloads.aspx?Model=6150K8MD-8EKRSH&DownID=en-us0000003

BTW, I upgraded this mobo from a A64-3000+ to a A64-4000+ a month ago (Newegg, for $58), and am now running stably at 221x12, or 2.65Ghz, without a vCore increase (stock 1.35v). That's with 2x512MB of Corsair CMX pc3200, happily running without any divider at 221Mhz (currently 2.85v and 2.5-3-3-7). That's the equivalent of at least pc3500.
