It's coming together... quietest pump for 7/16" tubing?

My cooling setup is beginning to materialise... I've ordered a Watercool HTF3 2x120mm radiator, two Yate Loon fans, Masterkleer 7/16" tubing, and a few bits and bobs like barbs and hose clips.

Now I just need to find blocks and a pump. I don't mind if it's DC or AC but it needs to be *really* quiet. I'm thinking Eheim 1046 quiet, but I'm not sure if that or its variants will be appropriate to work with 7/16" tubing, or be able to fit the tubing at all. If I could use the Aqua Computers Aquastream pump, that would be fantastic because there's one ex-demo available that I can actually afford.

I'm going to be cooling a heavily OCed Opty 170, a 7600GS card, and possibly after that a MOSFET block and one bridge block.

My primary need by far is quietness, but performance and cheapness isn't far behind. In the UK it costs up to £65 ($130) for, for instance, a DD D5 pump :( so finding a B-grade Aquastream for £50 ($100) is unmissable.

Can I go for it, and if I do, what accessories will I need to mate it with 7/16" tubing?

Thanks!

I've got a DDC+ pump with Petra's top on it. You can use 1/2" or 3/8" barbs in it. It moves some serious water, and it is awfully quiet.

No noticeable difference in flow, much tighter fitting on barbs (you may not need to use clamps), less thick so easier to route, etc.

I don't really care what tubing you go with but a couple things to keep in mind..."much tighter fitting on barbs" means you can't get it off either. Most peeps have to cut theirs off once they get it on.

"less thick so easier to route" is not necessarily the case. Thicker walled tubing allows for tighter radius bends and less kinking. Possibly making it easier to route than thin walled tubing.

Probably doesn't make much of a difference but just thought you should know your logic may be a bit off. It sucks to find out the hard way.

Argh... the tubing is a constant, I'm not changing now.

Thanks - so I should get a DDC+? Is a DDC any quieter? Will a DDC pump enough water? What UK suppliers do you recommend?

The noise level I've been used to is an undervolted Nexus 120mm (nearly inaudible), an undervolted 92mm Nexus (impossible to hear even in otherwise total silence) and a rubber-isolated Spinpoint drive (only audible when seeking), so I notice really quiet things, unfortunately for my wallet!

Thanks guys.

That's what I recommend, but you'll have to get an aftermarket top for it. The stock top only has 3/8" barbs.

No Idea. (Edit: I missed the DDC vs. DDC+ volume).

Yes.

You're on your own with that one.

About the silence: It's really quiet. You'll want to mount it on a rubber pad or something, for vibration isolation.

just use a heat gun (or hairdryer if you don't have one) on tubing that doesn't want to come off. that'll fix its little red wagon.

Thanks guys... done it!

Ordered a DDC with Petra's Top and an EK CPU block and a Maze 5 GPU block.

Have a good weekend all.
