I have been tasked with recovering, or saving a clients Lime wire files, they want to save the program and settings itself I believe. I understand this to be a lot of work due to all the Java and possably a few registry edits.

Please help!

if you can't just copy over the program folder and application data folder it's not worth it IMO :)

Just back up their "shared files" and be done with it. Don't worry about saving the program, you can re-install it later. The Limewire installer is probably saved on the hard drive somewhere. Or, you can get Limewire at http://www.limewire.com/

Limewire is a tiny 3MB program. There aren't many "settings" with it anyway. Backing up a program is not as simple as copying the Limewire folder under Program Files. You just re-install the program if you ever have to.

Back up their shared files... that's what is most important!

I have used lime wire for almost 2 years now, and have backed up the shared files several times. I am thinking that the guy will not notice if I just reinstall it. Fingers crossed, if he insists on me backing up the program then I will just bill him accordingly for the hours worked.

Goto C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\LimeWire and also C:\Program Files\LimeWire and copy these 2 folders. You will not have to do anything with the registry as all settings are saved in APP DATA folder.

I think he already tried that:
I wish that it was that easy, but that is my MO too!!!

I don't know anything about limewire so I am not sure what this "shared folder" is. But a lot of applications you can just back up the application data folder to save the settings and stuff.

This is correct. If these 2 folders are saved that is all you need. I have already tried it and it worked fine for me. The shared folder is just the folder you choose in Limewire to save your downloads to and share them also.

I have deepfreeze installed on my computer and am in frozen state while installing Limewire and rebooted my computer discarding all changes after saving these two folders and pasted them back and just ran the .exe in the Program Files folder. It remembered all the settings.
