Hey all,

I thought everything was running smoothly with my setup:

C2D E6600
2Gb G.Skill HZ
P5B-Dlx
EAX1900CF
2x320GB Seagate .10
XClio 650W

Till yesturday when the gf was surfing around and the screen went black (didn't shut off) and now the system will not post. Tried pulling power for awhile, tried CMOS Jumper, pulling the battery, waiting, all combinations of the above, pulled all other components out, etc etc

It doesn't beep, no keyboard lights, nothing. Hitting Reset on case causes the board to cold boot (power down, then up after a second or two). Tried one stick of ram at a time, same result. Can get it to beep if pulling out both sticks of ram, other then that its silent.

Is there anything else I should try, maybe something with this board, or just something I might be forgetting before I contact Asus for RMA ???? Maybe this isn't a MB problem ? I'll try some different ram, but I am kinda thinking its the Mb.

Thanks, Also if anyone has a recommendation for an Intel ICH8R or higher board (not sure what the hot board is right now) I would consider switching to,

No one can think of anything else to check before RMA ?

I have exactly same situation. Tried different video cards, power supplies, CPU, memory. Everything disconnected.
No Post
No monitor activity
No beep code.

Its got to be a bad P5B then....

Do you get beep codes when there is no memory at all ? I'm going to lookup the RMA phone number and get that going today.

I hate the P5B for its 4:5 issues alone, Its credibility certainly did not need this issue as well.

Borrow a cheap ddr2 and use it to boot then go to bios and adjust vdimm to 2.2v..... Same thing is happening to my Ballistix, something to do with D9's not liking to boot at 1.8v.... I RMA my rams but tech support says they cant guarantee the ones theyre sending back wont do the same.....

Good luck.. but if you do get it to boot with different rams, youd be praying everytime you reboot......

Try using one stick to boot.... hopefully its just one that wont boot at default so try them both one at a time...

This turned out to be my problem.
Somehow the Bios got reset to defaults. I stuck in a 256mb stick and got Bios RAM voltage reset, and machine is working again.

I am aware of that memory problem. This board is picky with its ram

But this board has always worked with the G.Skill DDR2 800 (HZ) sticks. After CMOS resets, bad overclocks, lockups, bios upgrades etc. Never once had a problem,

I'll try some cheap-o ram but I would be stunned if that was it.

I have D9s too and it worked fine for about a month before it acted up..... it is weird...

Holy fuck, its been working for 3 months no problems, until now,

Over lunch I took a 533 512 stick home and plugged it in, sure as shit it works.

Well thats good I don't have to RMA, but sucky b/c now I need to figure out which setting (already tried mem voltage) is causing the problem,

I have some testing to do apparently.

I dont think you need to worry about your rams cos it could be a number of things that caused teh reboot.... You just gotta have a cheap ram sitting around if it happens again.....

Had this same problem before. I was in bios messing with settings and when I hit exit and save, it shuts down and couldn't reboot. I tried everything jumper, battery, swapped components. I ended up leaving the battery out overnight as a last resort and it worked the next day.

Definite RMA.

I did manage to update the bios to 1004, but it did nothing.

Get this, I got the ram back in and working at 2.3V (no lower) where it used to work at 2.10V (800 Mhz) but if I adjust SPD to anything but auto it craps out and won't boot until I switch out to some cheap ram. I hate this board.

Now, (the fabulous part) I started it up at 3.2Ghz (400x8), 2.3V, auto spd (5-6-6-18) and hit delete to get into set up, went into windows instead... hmmm, thats wierd, I'll reboot and try it again..... windows.... hmmm... Notice the keyboard lights are not coming on when it boots, the keyboard stopped working, rather the PS2 ports stopped working. Both of them, I have usb keyboard that I'm using now (poorly), but I can't get into bios with it. So.... now I certainly RMA this board !!!

Unreal. This is my last Asus product ever!
