I searched for these topics and got nothing. My question is whether WC has come far enough to leave a system unattended? Do you run your rig 24/7? I'm ready to ditch the noisy fans. How much life will a good pump give before it craps out? The pump I'm looking at is Laing DDC-2 Pump w/Petra'sTech DDCT-01 Delrin Top. I already have a kit picked out from Petra. But that's another thread.:p

can you go to the titty bar with your computer on and not worry about it catching your house on fire? well yes of course... unless you severly screw up the instalation and it leaks everywhere, but thats your own fault :p

Do you run your rig 24/7?
yea lots of people do, im one of them

ive had a few pumps that were faulty from the get-go and had to be RMA'd after a month or so, but your equipment will be obsolete far before your pump dies. my origional exos (with the crappy pumps) has been running for 3 years, my D5 has been running for one year no problems.

I run mine 24/7 all the time I wouldn't leave it alone for more than about a week at a time though, you never know when the water level could get too low and cause air to force the pumps out of prime (although that depends alot on your loop). My SFF rig has been runing for about 3 months with water and Pentosin and I have not done any maintenaince yet, though I need to clean the filters soon.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah ghost6303 that's exactly my concern.

1. Go to titty bar.
2. pick up hot stripper
3. Come home to find zapped computer
4. yell at stripper to start blowing hard
5. clarify to stripper you mean for her to blow water off of soaked components:eek:

Nothing like bringing your new date home to a smouldering pile of plastic and silicon.

;)

But, I leave my computer on 24/7.

I've got that beat. My old Koolance pc2 with two small pumps in it is still going strong since I got it about 5 years ago. It runs 24/7 for most of the year, except when I go away for extended periods. Then it's more because I don't want to leave the system unattended for that long, not for loss of faith in the watercooling.

Part of that is though because the Koolance systems have it built in that if it starts getting too hot (pump dies, water too low, etc.) Then it will automatically shut down.

My computer gets extreamly annoyed with me if I go the the titty bars and leave it at home. So I pour a shot of Blue Goose in the res and sneak out while its sleeping it off.

If I have a reason to leave it on 24x7 I do, otherwise I turn it off. You wont trust it for the first month, wake up with cold sweats and nightmares wondering if there is a leak. Later on, meh, not so much.

Hmm I belevie speedfan has a temp monitoring feature that will issue the shutdown command if you really paranoid. That would take care of pump failure.

My last box stayed on 24/7 for over 2 years, same water, same pump. Other than the tubing being slightly clouded from 2 years worth of residue, everything ran great.

It's been about 2 years since i built/filled my exos 2 coupled with aqua computer blocks and it's still running 24/7 just fine and trouble free.

ive actualy used three shots of vodka (and three for myself) in place of antifreeze/algicide for about 6 months, seemed to work too. nothing broke, seals are fine, and there was no green stuff growing. alcohol also breaks the surface tention making it easier to get the bubbles out and prevent more from forming. horray beer!

I've got a pretty simple CPU loop that runs 24/7. No problems (yet).

You don't even need anything fancy like an Aquaero for safety monitoring either. My pump (DDC) has an RPM indicator that I plug into the CPU_FAN plug on the motherboard. That, and the CPU_Temp auto shutdown mean everything shuts down automatically if the pump dies, or the loop stops cooling for some reason (i.e. freaky kink/blockage/"safe leak"). Of course, in the event of a "dangerous leak" (one that leaks onto live electronics) I'm screwed; but that risk can be virtually eliminated with a good leak test, and adhering to "best practices" in the FAQs - i.e. hose clamps, etc.
