I know this gets asked alot probably, but I am curious what I should buy. I would like to by one of the two and would prefer the 520 as it is under $100!

My Rig:
Main Parts
Asus P5B-E
[email protected] (May upgrade to e6600 or quad or something in the future)
2gb GSkill DDR2800 RAM
7900GS (may upgrade to a single 8800 GTS or GTX in the future)
XFI XtremeMusic
2x IDE Optical Drives

HDD
150gb Raptor X SATA HDD
200gb WD SATA HDD
160gb Seagate SATA HDD

Fans
2x 120mm Case Fans, 2x 80mm LED Case Fans, Zalman 9500

Extras
2x Bay Mounted LCDs

Seems like a lot when I list it, but not that much compared to what some are running.

So would the 520 easily hold it?

My rig has a 520 and I am doing great. I had a NeoPower 480 with 7800GT SLI and it did just as well. Upgraded to the 520 because of the Asus/Antec PSU bug. My voltages are really stable.

I have heard that some are running the 8800 cards on the 520 though as well?

So would the 8800 be stable on a 520?

Corsair HX 520W is more than enough for powering your rig. You'll have plenty of power laying around. To be honest, for that rig Seasonic S12 380W will be just fine, but if you plan upgrade to for example 8800GTX, Quad processor, 4GB ram, several additinal HDDs etc. HX 520 is better option (or Seasonic S12 500W, if you don't care about modular PSU).

ok, sounds good

In the future I will probably put a 8800 in there so I would like to be able to do it with the PSU I buy :)

Plus i change things a lot and like to have some give :)

if your planning on running sli or crossfire its recommended to buy the hx620 cuz the 520 wont be able to power the power hungry pos cards

Im pushing a single 8800GTS just fine with my Corsair 520. Im running just as much stuff as you too minus the two bay LCDs. But I cant imagine they take that much juice.

Well it took awhile but I finally sprung for the 620HX.

I couldn't beat the $123 price AR at ZZF :)

Myself I'm running an E6600, 8800GTS, 250GB HDD (only one), 1 optical drive, 3 fans and watercooling on the Antec Smartpower 2.0 450W of the Sonata II case without problems. I'm sure 520 is gonna be sufficient :)

Well 620 will be plenty than and thats what I ended up getting :p

The diff was only $20 so I thought I would take the security and future expandibility :)

I have a 620 coming up from a NeoPower 480. It's powering 7 HDs, 1 SATA DVDRW, a 6600, a X-Fi Plat, 2gb of Mushkin, and an Athlon64 3000+ @ 2.5ghz. It's very stable, waiting for either a R600 or 8600Ultra/8800GTS 320....can't freaking wait. Supreme Commander is coming out this month and C&C 3 next month!!!!

520 should be no problem. On my rig I am only using like 200w as reported by an external outlet monitor (which means my actual machine is using less).

do you guys think the 620w could handle a R600, 3 HDs, 4x120mm fans, and watercooling? How about a 2nd R600 later in the future?

If the R600 doesn't consume 1.21 jiggawatts of power, the 520 *should* do One, given an 8-pin pci-e adaptor. I doubt it would do two though.

Are you quoting the guy above your? Do you mean 520 or 620 watts? There's a big difference in ampage.:p

1X yes, 2X I wouldn't recommend it.

For uber/ultimate the P&C 1KWSR with a single +12V@72A is my recommendation.

Or being practical, the Corsair 620W & if needed, then add the Fortron X3 300W GPU PSU. ;)

I want something thats modular but enough to handle a R600 and couple of drives and fans as well as watercooling (pump). I'd like the option of going dual GPU if i wanted to though so im having a hard time choosing a PSU

i guess the enermax galaxy 1kw or 850w might be my only choice, wish corsair had a higher powered PSU out already

We're working on it, but designing a good PSU takes time. We could have an 850 or 1KW on the market right now, if we weren't really particular about the quality, but we are, so it takes some time to get things made the way we'd like.

After all, it doesn't do us any good if we just go buy the same product as our competition and throw our sticker on the outside, right?

We want the product to be better than our competition.

Good things come to those who wait.

And so far your PSUs have been awesome!
