Just got my parts and put them all together. Windows is up and running fine, installed all the drivers and all, but windows is only seeing one core. What do I do about this? I recall hearing about the hotfixes, but have no idea where to go from here. Mobo is a p5n-e sli if that helps any. Thanks.

If i could I would, Asus's site is sucking mad hard. Can't get the file to download. Connection keeps timing out.

Updated the BIOS. Still only getting one core. Anyone else having these problems? Really pissing me off.

edit: Now I can't enter the bios setup, ready to throw this board out the window T_T

I had that problem. Windows had installed the wrong HAL driver. It was really weird, I did nothing to make it install the wrong driver, and when I reinstalled Windows it grabbed the right one on the first try.

Looks like you're reinstalling Windows. ;)

That's always a fun experience. yay for me :p Thinking of RMAing the board, as I'm having no luck entering the bios since flashing them.

after updating from 201 to 401 or whatever you have to reset your bios via the jumper.
Otherwise i have no idea, both with 201 and 401 my e4300 was recognized properly.

Yeah, have done that since then. I can enter the bios now, which is good, but I'm still only showing one core in cpu-z and task manager. Even after I've reinstalled windows since the updated bios. Core temp shows 2 core threads though, so what next?

follow this:
1. hit START
2. SETTING THEN CONTROL PANEL
3. GO INTO SYSTEM
4. CLICK THE HARDWARE TAB THEN DEVICE MANAGER
5. VERY FIRST TAB SAYS "COMPUTER" UNDER COMPUTER WHAT DOES IT SAY?
A. ACPI multi processor PC
or
B. something else

As another poster mentioned previously, sometimes Windows doesn't install the proper support for multi-core during installation. When this happened to me I thought one of the cores of my e6300 had gone south never to come back.

Reinstalling Windows was the only way I could fix the problem. The Computer itself was showing up as ACPI in Device Manager and could not be changed. Most likely you'll have to reinstall, but that takes up what, 30 minutes with these chips? It's fun to install windows just because it goes by so fast. Just like installing Win98 on an Athlon 1Ghz back in the day =).

Says ACPI PC, no multiprocessor in there. However under the processors tab it shows me as having two E4300s. Seems odd.

Yep, Windows grabbed the wrong driver. There's only one solution, so quite avoiding it, man up, and reinstall Windows. :p

He says he already re-installed windows though~ (at least thats what i got from his post 2 after my last one)

Shows how you can force a multi-processor HAL during install.

Could try changing the HAL from that menu in the control panel too, but I'm sure you probably wont be able to do that.

Good news. I tried a second XP home disk I had and it worked oddly enough. So I'm rocking two cores now, just want to know how stable it is. 24 hours of orthos here I come. :D

I'm in Vista, with E4300 as well.

Under "computer" in device manager, it shows
ACPI x86-based PC

Under "processors" it shows 2 Core 2 CPUs.
Under Windows Task Manager CPU - Performance, it shows two CPU Usage charts.

Um... nothing wrong right? Just checking.

If you see 2 cpu charts, you are allright. Vista list the system a bit differently so this is normal.
