hi guys,

I need your help with following:

When I try to connect to the wireless network I am getting "no or limited connectivity" message. So I actually connect but it does not work. I am sorry for this description, but this is what I understand, happens:

DHCP is on on the router
Signal strenght is very good - wireless network card on the laptop can "see" the network.
When I try to connect verification of my network credentials + WEP is all successful.
Then "no or limited connectivity" pops up.

I run ipconfig all. My ip is not 192.168.1.x but instead it is 169 something. If I rememebr correctly this is Windows-own IP - I guess I am not getting a correct one from the router...

No MAC filtering on the router (Zyxel)
No static IP on the laptop (HP nx7400)

the 169 IP is self-addressed because you're not getting a real IP address assigned.

Signal strength is good because you have a nice strong wireless connection. Authentication is good because you know the correct password for that wireless access point. Unfotunately neither of those things will get you an IP address unless either your access point is set up for DHCP or it is passing your request to a DHCP server somewhere on your network.

So if you have control of the network and that wireless AP check to see how your DHCP is set up. If you're depending on the AP to provide the address then the DHCP settings is the first place you'll go.

When you hard wire do you get an ip? Have you tried setting a static ip on your wireless to verify that you are actually connection the AP?

If both are true, then I don't know. It sounds like a DHCP server issue from the info you provided.

You don't have any mac filtering turned on, do you? Also what Router/AP is this? Some of them have newer firmware that resolves bugs.
