Well I just ordered my new PC parts to build my new rig to push this monitor. I got a AMD 64 x2 5200+, Seagate Barracuda 7200 320GB 7200 RPM SATA, CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533, RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply, GIGABYTE GA-M55SLI-S4 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard, EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card.

Let me know what you think!

# 1080p Direct Input (19) Click for definition
# 1080p Display (23) Click for definition

1080p Compatible
Conversion means the TV will upconvert the incoming signal to 1080p.

Direct input means the TV has at least one input that accepts 1080p signals directly, with no conversion needed.

Does that mean the Westinghouse 42" isn't really 1080p?

I was looking at Crutchfield for the Westinghouse 37" but they didn't have it and saw this instead.

I remember reading a customer complaint to Best Buy about them selling them a 1080p TV when it wasn't really 1080p. The case I think was the screen could display 1080p, but none of the inputs actually took in a signal of 1080p.

The 42w2 is true 1080p

Thats shipping pretty far! Which one did you buy? I notice the price differences of the 37 and 42 at Techonweb are pretty close:

LVM-37W3 $1,118.03
LVM-42W2 $1,221.91

IMO thats a very good deal for the 42.
I also purchased my westy from them; the shipping for me was only $45 in the states in comparison to other places charging $100+ and it was perfect. I hope yours is also in good condition since it is traveling so far!

I've got a pinkish red colored stuck pixel that appeared today while I was web browsing :(

I haven't been able to fix it so far despite lots of time with Jscreenfix and UDpixel both working it over.

Massaging it doesn't seem to be working either. :(

1060.00 from newegg...is that a good price?

I've been going back in forth on getting the westy or the 3007wfp HC from dell...but I can't see myself forking over 400 more for a smaller screen even though it has a higher resolution...

plus the newegg return policy kinda scares me...

any other suggestions as far as where to buy w/ a good deal?

thanks!

U won't regret getting this monitor. I picked up a 2nd one from the Egg at ur price. Shipping isn't a big deal if ur not in a great hurry to get it. I've talked to support at Westinghouse and they seemed friendly and willing to work out problems postEgg shipping. The box delivered in December was in great shape, just took awhile because of the blizzards in Co and WY. Gaming unleashed, go for it Yang!

I was worried about the same thing as you.

I ordered mine from PCNation.com on Thursday afternoon, it shipped Friday morning and was at more door yesterday (Monday) afternoon. Ran dead pixel buddy - no dead or stuck pixels. Total price was 1070. I also called them before I ordered and asked what I would do if I got it with dead pixels and the rep told me to call him and he'd take care of it for me.

I would also recommend this monitor over the Dell, simply because you won't have to constantly be upgrading your hardware to run games at the native resolution. 1920x1080 is a lot easier on the system than 2550x1600 (or whatever the crazy high res is).

Game look amazing on this screen. Got some time in with Supreme Commander and HL2:E1 last night and all I can say is wow, especially coming from a 5 year old 19" CRT :)

thanks for the suggestions!

I'll be hitting the "buy" button!...thanks again!

yang

Buy now! I also orderd mine from PC Nation about 2 and half weeks ago and all I can say is wow. 360 looks amazing on this thing! I just ordered all the parts to build me a new gamming rig for this thing yesterday! So by the end of the week hopefully I can have some pics up and a full review now using a pc with a 8800 GTS pushing this 1080p of love!

you would need some serious hardware to run the 3007 @ 2560x1600 in damn near any game....i too went back and forth for weeks on either my Westy or a Dell..and thats the one factor that made up my mind...i play at the Westy max res in every game i own(that supports it) max every piece of eye candy i can enable..and it looks insane, games like BF2...plzzzzzz! looks amazing

Got my boss interested in this monitor as his current 21" crt is slowly dying. The only issue I see is that the video cards in his computers are integrated. They can do 1920x1080 but I was wondering if there will still be any issues outputting to this screen?

Keep in mind he won't be gaming, watching movies or anything remotely related to what I would use this screen for. Just for coding and the usual office products..

Anyone else run this thing off integrated graphics using vga? Also, I was curious if anyone else has used a KVM with this thing at all, and did any issues occur?

Thanks for any input.

Well I would say not to do integrated graphics for this thing. I hooked my laptop up to it trough VGA and was like the quality looked sub par. As for the KVM switch again stay away from it the signal through VGA was bad enough and then to have it routed through a KVM made it worse IMHO. Tell him to buy a cheap graphics card with DVI and call it a day his eyes will thank him.

how do i set this unit to hibernate if im not using it? is it the sleep mode?

This is a small pet peeve about this monitor. Unless you have "Auto Source" enabled the DPMS (This is the power save) does not function.

It's not a super huge deal but I hate using Auto Source because at 12:01 am every day my cable company does some sort of "push" to my cable box which causes it to flip video sources usually causing me to get killed while playing World of Warcraft =P

Which firmware do you have? And WTF is up with your cabel company? Who do you have?

Did a quick search, but couldn't come up with anything.

Is there anyone here on these fine boards that was able to get a Westy into the UK?

Well I have had the monitor for a little over 2 weeks now and I think that out of all the hardware I have ever bought, this is by FAR the best investment I have ever made. I can not believe I was on the fence with this thing. I have had friends come over and just drool over the size and quality of the screen (friends who used to make fun of my old monitor) haha jokes on them now. I am just going to say again to anyone on the fence about this monitor, if you have the money don't try and wait for the price to go lower becuase it is worth $1100.00 if you can still get it for that EVERY PENNY.

It's $999 plus ~$60 in shipping at Newegg now if anyone is interested. I don't think I would personally buy it from them due to their return policy on displays this big.

I have no clue of which cable to buy! The westy looks like it is a dual link monitor because of the 24pins but which cable do I go out and spend money on tomorrow.

On another note, I just went out and bought my first pc games for my new pc that I should be building tomorrow (Damn OS better show up tomorrow). I bought Company of Heroes and GTR2 and that wireless gaming receiver from microsoft. COH I got for cheap used at half priced books, it was in the back for $25 so I had to grab it before it was to late!

DVI-D, it is not a dual link monitor either, you only need single link for 1920X1080

Ok cool, but why does it look like a dual link monitor, or am I just a noob who needs to not think? I have a DVI cabel that is missing the four center pins that I see on the dual link cables. Is there any difference between DVI port one or two?

wow this thread keeps on chugging along... i will tell you this was one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. In fact my whole rig that I just put together in the past month or so was one of the best I have ever made. Its oced well, nice and quiet, plenty of power and does everything I need to do. I will admit for the first time in a while I am totally satisfied.

The monitor has a dual-link interface but it doesn't need it. I got mine yesterday and hooked it up with a Single Link DVI cable and under monitor information it promptly say 1920x1080p. It is 6 pins missing on single compared to dual link (FYI).

As for DVI1 and DVI2 it will be up to you.....They are the same, both with HDCP and an audio input (L + R channels...you might have to get a 3.5mm to L+R channel converter if you will be looking to use the audio like this.)

I got a quick noob question, I am building a new rig (hopefully today) and wanted to know if their is a way of transferring all of my apps and OS from one drive to another or do I just have to reinstall everything? I want to upgrade to a raptor in about 2 or 3 months.

Thanks for the FYI on the pins missing, really helps a noob. In addition I read that DVI 1 is missing HDCP, but my firmware is v1.0 so I am not sure dude has an earlier version.

If I can I would use DVI 2 because that is the side that I will be putting my PC on (to show of the lights!) and I bought a single link like 3 foot cord for $1 from REPC yesterday. And would much rather not have to spend $30 - $70 on a cable long enough.

I know what you mean (I have an acrylic case). I still have some arranging to do.

I guess I should have included the source where I got my info from. http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pdf/56_User_Manual.pdf - Page 7
It tells about all the ports. Given this doesn't have a firmware attached but HDCP, to the best of my knowledge, is hardware based and would actually be more involved then a firmware upgrade. (I have v1.0 as well I wonder what the manufacturing date is :-/ )

Since you already have the 3ft. $1 cord use it and if you are unable to produce an image quality that you don't like then you might have to look for something different. Looking at a semi-reliable source (wiki) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI it does say that a SL DVI cable is capable of providing a 1920x1080p signal with 5% blanking. I'm not sure to the exacts of the blanking but it would be interesting to find the difference if a dual link were to be used with the "GTF Blanking" rules used.

Thanks for the info, I have no idea why I forgot to look in the manual (could be that is so small), but I am headed over to your wikpedia link to learn about blanking.
