I've been looking at some reviews lately, and I'm not sure my zalman is up to snuff with some of the latest coolers. I'm trying to keep my 2.6ghz overclock nice and cool. Granted it's working now in the winter ok (but I keep my house temps on 70 degrees F, and my furnace is on 78-80F in the summer). Currently, my idle temps are in the mid to high 20s (celcius), and my load are just breaking 50C. I was planning on going to microcenter today and picking something up, I was concerned as I have tossed the stock backplate and cpu rentention mechanism, but I see I can get one for $4. Sometimes microcenter has things that aren't on the website, I've seen scythe ninja there before, as well as arctic cooling freezer pro 64, and I know they have the Zalman 9500 and 9700. I'm thinking with my case airflow, I would get the best cooling with something that blows air from front to back rather than straight down on the cpu, that way incoming air from the front goes right to the cpu fan, and any hot air is pulled up through the 120mm fan on my psu, or out the 120mm fan in the back. Can anyone recommend anything from these pages? http://www.microcenter.com/byos/byos_search_results_e.phtml?coordinate_group=HJ1B

Thanks,

What's your budget?

I'm not very familiar with coolers, but I just got the Zalman 9700 - it took me erm.....4 hours to intall in total - but that was my first ever CPU fan install so there you go...:D

As far as the performance goes it's very solid and it's resonably quiet at the maximum fan speed - so there is an option for you.

Yeah - expensive, I'd guess there are probably better options for less - as I said, don't know too much about cooling. :D

The Tuniq Tower 120, ThermalRight Ultra 120 and Noctua are all great coolers but around $50 iirc. Petra's has the Scythe Ninja or something on sale for $36, the only downside I see to that cooler is the stupid clip mounting.

arctic cooling freezer pro 64
scythe ninja
tuniq tower (not found)

I dont see anything on that site, above is the big 3

I like the Freezer 64 Pro... agree with wdn - wait for a sale. Either one for about $30 is a good deal.

The Freezer 64 Pro is the same as the Zalman 9700 on Newegg.com - wootzozrz.....

I think if I had t ochoose between the two I'd go with the 9700 - as erm well it fits my mobo :D and it looks cool.
