I'm considering upgrading from my 7900GT to an 8800GTS 320mb superclocked. Do you think the card will be bottlenecked by my processor?

yep, no good DX10 games for many more months to come

errrrr, you mean hardware wise, not really, push for 2.64ghz, you'll be more happy :)

:p No no no silly, I'm considering buying an 8800GTS 320mb superclocked and I'm wondering if it's too much for my 4200.

Wait for the more mature G80 derivatives (like 7950GT vs. 7900GT) and/or ATI's R600 to come out. You should be able to save up a bit more by then anyway.

Like they said, performance with that CPU will depend on the game and resolution. I'm having a nice time with Supreme Commander on my X2 @ 2.8, so don't give up hope.

1280x1024, I play BF2142 alot which isn't the reason why I'm buying this (7900GT runs it at 40-80FPS consistently). I'm just concerned about getting my rig DX10 compatible. Maybe the 8600 ultra is a better bet?

well supreme commander is dx10. some may consider that good, although I don't necessarily like those kind of games

buy a 640 REGULAR instead of a 320 SC. better deal, better performance @ high res

QFT, can't get into those games.

I'd hang onto the 7900GT for a while longer, the 8800's run hot, still don't have mature drivers, and there aren't many dx10 games out ATM, also the 320mb is a bad choice if your waiting for DX10 games, those games will be heavy in shaders and will more than likely need more memory than 320mb that these boards supply, If you want it at a DX9c card, it's a great choice

I don't think you'll be bottlenecked at all. With a regular clocked 8800GTS, I got virtually identical (off by 1fps) 3DMark06 individual test scores (ignoring the CPU score) with a 3.22GHz E6300 and a 2.7GHz X2 3800+. Yes, it's a canned benchmark which is not truly indicative of actual games, but as long as you have enough RAM and don't run at insanely high 2k resolutions, you'll be OK.

Or you could hold off on a 8800gts until you see a review that says it works with DX10.

I couldn't shell out $400 bucks on a card without prove it works on a DX10 game.

I say wait a while. Unless you are really wanting to upgrade, the refresh should hit soon. 80nm. The 8900GTS looks like it should be the sweet spot.
