Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

The NBA Street demo on the 360 is NATIVE 1080p.. and one other EA game coming out soon. I'm not sure of anything else.

When using VGA cable with this monitor+the 360, you just choose the 1920 x 1080 resolution right? I'm asking because I remember when using component, it actually said 720p 1080i etc. And wouldn't 1080i be 1920 x 1080 also?

please someone show more pictures of this monitor :) Convince me to buyyy :)
Also anyone know of any Canadian dealers?

Mwave doesnt ship to Canada :(

Yes

Personally I wouldnt trust any ground service with a $1000+ investment of mine. I would recommend spending the extra for air service, the less time Fedex or UPS has the package in there hands the more the chance you have of not getting a beat up package.
That's comforting. I ordered from Sam's Club online (none in stock locally) and ground shipping is the only option. I guess I can return it if need be.

what speakers are those?

I'm getting a message that my monitor isn't a HDCP compatible monitor with Cyberlink's BD/HD Advisor diagnostic tool.

Can anybody, that has there computer hooked up through the DVI connector, on this monitor please test this for me and see if there monitor passes the test? I'd like to now if it's a glitch with Cyberlink's software before I ship my monitor back for repair.

You can get Cyberlink's BD/HD Advisor here; http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/support/bdhd_support/diagnosis.jsp

are you using dvi1 or dvi2? try both. i think i remember reading dvi1 is and dvi2 is not. at work though atm and my monitor uses vga. good luck

Quick question, are you running an hdcp video card? I don't know if that would stop it from telling you if the monitor is or not, just being curious.

Also, I just pulled place my order with mwave. Looking forward to getting my hands on it. I was a little cautious after getting the 24" gateway and returning it.

Dude just buy it now. Stop being a sissy

hahahah... that's awesome.

man i'm SO FREAKIN TEMPTED TO GET THIS FOR $1000 AT MWAVE!!!

but i want to get this for my girlfriend's living room.

I currently have a 32" HDTV 720p panel that i play my 360 on... I think the 32" wouldn't be big enough for her living room, but I'm not sure if 37" is enough... I dunno if I should get the 37 or 42, and 42 is way expensive... so I'm stuck on the decision. I'm DEF interested in Westinghouse b/c of reviews, and cuz it does 1080p at a decent price.

her living room is roughly... i'm gonna guess... 12ft x 15ft...

damn... i'd have to buy the high def VGA cable to do 1080... does 1080i look better than 720p on Gears of War for example??

I have tons of games... doubt any support 1080p... curious if 1080i looks better than 720p...

For a livingroom where at times your going to be 10ft away on a couch and not sitting right in front of it, your gonna want the larger display. I put the 42 in my livingroom and I'm happy I didn't go smaller.

Shop around, it's not THAT much more :D.
I got my 42 for $1300, when the cheapest 37's at that time where $1100.
If it's still too high, wait and save your chips - prices will also drop in the process, now I see the 37's are cheaper yet; it'll be worth the wait to not have any regrets on a big purchase.

well my gf's birthday is about 2 months from today... mid april... i guess i'll start looking again at the end of March.

had i bought this now, i woulda wanted to give her the gift ahead of time anyway.

37" wouldn't be so bad, but man 42" sounds so perfect for her livingroom... she's gonna be so freakin' happy i bet!!! =)

Okay, so the wife calls and tells me my new "toy" has arrived....Im at work until 5pm so I think I can feel an upset stomach coming on....

The delivery guys (best buy) removed it from the box and were told where to put it....on my desk. The guys like, "umm, you sure you want it on the desk"? My wife tells them yes...and the guy is all like, "okay, I guess, if thats where you want it.." Guess they have never set one up as a computer monitor before...oh well..

I cant wait till I get home....wifey said the thing is huge!

You will want to set the output of the 360 to 1080P. That option should be available if you have installed the fall dashboard update of 2006.
Don't send an interlaced signal of any kind to the westy. The built in deinterlacer is not very good, particularly with fast motion sequences. The scaler/deinterlacer in the 360 is better.
Here's a link to a good blog all about it.

the review isn't entirely bad, but the 42" only scored 6.3 on cnet.

i didn't know that it didn't have a tuner... looks like i'd have to get my gf a cable box too!! cuz she has basic.

http://reviews.cnet.com/Westinghouse_W4207/4505-6482_7-32159738.html

Thats actually the W4207, a 720p set; not to be confused with the 42W2 which is 1080p.

CNET has not reviewed the 42W2, although the average user rating is 8.2 - not bad considering earlier firmwares had serious issues with banding and shutdowns which are now fixed.

The 37W3 also goes unrated by CNET, and the average user rating for that set is 8.9

They will both lose some points for not having a built in tuner. For those of us using it as a computer monitor, or our cable provider has already given us an external cable box, this is not an issue.
Essentially the display on both of these sets should be relatively identical other than size (and as a result pixel pitch).

Mine just came... I hooked it up to the 9800pro in my old rig for the mean time until I build my new rig... doesn't appear to be any noticable dead pixels... what's the best way to check? Is there a picture i should look at or something? Also how do you tell what firmware version it has?

You can download Dead Pixel Buddy from here:

You should be able to spot them with this if you have any.

My video card is HDCP compliant and I get the message on DVI-1, DVI-2 and HDMI. I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem.

What video card are you running. I would test this when I get home but my 7900GT is definately not HDCP so I would fail anyway.

That isn't available using the VGA cable. Only resolutions are.

I've read "most" of this thread. I've been patiently waiting for my tax money to buy this monitor. I have never actually seen this monitor in person. I intend to use it mainly as a television.

I went to Best Buy and they don't have it in stock, but they can order it. What they did have was a 27". That was the biggest Westinghouse they had on display. And it looked like crap.

Now I'm nervous about getting it at all. And if I have to have it shipped anyway, why not get it from newegg?

bump. anyone know what 5.1 speakers they are? they look sort of like the logitech z5300e but the wired remote is definitely different. it doesnt look like the z5500s so hmm?

They are the Logitech z680's they came out a year or so before the z5500's. They have served me well so I see no need to upgrade.

the 27" isnt even in the same galaxy as this display...thats why it looked like crap....the other thing you need to keep in mind...is best buy...and all the major chains are notorious for putting shitty signals through the "less expensive displays"
the sales person doesnt want you to buy a 1000$ unit..they want you to buy the "omfg that looks so awesome" 3-5000$ unit

I have a 7950GT and it shows it's OK. The test software will test your whole system and it won't matter if your card is not a HDCP one. I'm only interested if the 37w3 passes the test. I just don't want to ship my monitor back if this is just a problem with Cyberlink's test software.

Thanks for replying...I read that on there site, that's why I'm trying to see if someone with this monitor can test it with Cyberlink's Advisor. If there monitor passes the test, then my HDCP chip is probably faulty.

As it stands now I can't view any HDCP content through both DVI or HDMI ports on my monitor.
