The game that started it all!

Wolfenstein 3d got me hooked on pc games.

Delta Force, by Novalogic started my unrelenting addiction to online play.

Still play both of them on occasion.

Wizardry IV: Bane of the Cosmic Forge
Syndicate
One Must Fall
Darklands

Pokemon was my first serious video game addiction...

PC-wise, I think it was Deus Ex. I sucked haaaaard at it, but I loved it nonetheless

I've been playing computer games since I was five. I played a game called Sopwith II

My dad and I played that for at least 10 weeks of our lives :p

To most posts:
Wow. You are all so young (and rich) :D

My father's first system was a soviet pirated clone of Sinclair Spectrum (yes you could pirate hardware in soviet Russia!)

It looked like this:

and the games were loaded from AUDIO cassettes from a regular stereo.
Each game was 20-90 KB and took between 10 to 30 minutes just LOAD.

The favourite for this system is a tie-up between

3 weeks in paradise was an adventure game were you had to rescue your other 2 friends. It had extremely great music and addicitve gameplay with rpg elements.

and

Death Sword (aka the barbarian) Which was the first sword fighting game ever made. It had both a 'story' mode and 2 player sword-fighting-heaven
And in fact, the controls were brilliantly genius and realistic. The only thing that compares to this is Bushido Blade for Playstation1

Another thing was the violence - you could literally chop your opponent's head off! :D

A bit later, my dad managed to scramble together a computer to run DOS

my addiction was

Commander Keen developed by notorious Id software had great visuals and sound effects.

and of course

Lemmings !! If you have not played Lemmings, you have not played computer games - that's all I have to say about that. (search for 'Lemmings for Windows 95' to avoid running dos)

I know that's 4 games not 1, but they all had an equally great impact.

god its gonna suck in like 5 years when i'm old :)

sitting on these forums going "i remeber the days of teh duke3d being new" and these young kids going " i remeber when half life 2 was the one that got me started" lmao

X2, I go all  when kids say HL2 is old.... I remember having to make boot disks to play Wolf3d and crap.

3 weeks in paradise was an adventure game were you had to rescue your other 2 friends

I remember playing all the wally week series of games

Automania, Pyjamarama, Everyones a wally (i thought was the best), Herberts dummy run and 3 weeks in paradise

Them and the magic knight games on the spectrum were top class at the time :)

Some decathalon game on my dads computer with a green screen. i was like 7 so I don't even remember what kind of computer it was called.

Tie Fighter

But before that was Amusement Park for the Apple IIe (played in the school computer room).

The game that really got me hooked, was the original Age of Empires. Just something about it that did it for me. After that, it has been all down hill. :D

First video game I ever played was pong, in maybe 1979 (it was my granpa's), the first video game I went crazy playing was zelda on the original NEC. Then in college I wasted too much time on my VAX account playing MUDD. Almost got kicked out of our numerical methods class for using up all the VAX time in my classes account. Later Ultima consumed a large portion of my life, then diablo then quake, then ZOMG half-life, diablo II (a really really large amount of time on this one, botting and selling crap on ebay), HL2 and now I'm in limbo while I build my new rig (but BF2412 and WoW are bought and waiting to be installed).

1st game to keep me online:

Quake

Then:
Total Annihilation
EQ (the worst to date)

These came well after all the modem games with my neighborhood friends :)

Diablo 2 and Ultima Online.

Because of them I am now hooked to online gaming and BF 2142.

The game which got me to play online the most first was Quake2, CTF baby. damn good times.

Quake. The origional quake.
Then Quake 2.
Then Quake 2 mods.
Then I was hooked :p

Now I play semi-tactical stuff (True Combat: Elite, Tremulous), plus some fun shooters (HL2, Nexuiz).

Does your aim suck? Cheat your way through Q2 using railgun only. It will improve. :D

No question: Diablo

It got me hooked on PC games 10 years ago and I've never looked back. I play mostly FPS with some adventure/RPG when I find a good one, like Dreamfall.

warcraft 2. I won a jacket for winning an online tournament they played Garden of war and I rocked everyone blood lusted ogres unstoppable.

Uh :s i been gaming since i have memory... but to me the game that started all is Super Mario Bros for NES (thats what got me really hooked)

What got me into PC gaming is DOOM... im a game gore freak :) so having a zombie turn into a pool of blood guts and bones really got me :)

Wish they made more fps with gore as good (or better) as Solider of Fortune did... i loved putting no AI and go around executing badies in all ways possibles ... lots of good death animations

On the PC: Doom. 9600 baud modem 1 vs.1 ftw

Arcade: Pong and Asteroids.

Now get off my lawn!! :p

This made me remember something from my 2x86 days. I played a game called F-19 Stealth Fighter, it was the only flight sim I ever really got into. Anyone else remember it?

Great, great, great flight sim. Best game play of any flight sim I've ever played. I actually downloaded it a few years ago but the graphics (of course) were so horrible I didn't want to tarnish my memory of the game.

Doom definitely started it all for me, on the PC, anyway. I do remember playing Wolf 3D at a friend's house, but I don't remember if that was before or after I had already played Doom. I do have fond memories of attempting to install mods for Doom, to no success. :) My dad used to play Doom, and I'd watch him, and the game used to scare the crap out of me, but I finally got around to playing it myself, and haven't pulled myself away from gaming then.

Super Mario probably got me going for consoles. Good times blowing on the cartridge.

Ah, what an overdone list, but it's true. I credit Doom to this day for getting me into computer games. id software earns eternal praise in my book.

I was into gaming a long time ago.. 2600 days.. but as far as the game that totally hooked me...

Street Fighter 2 (single handedly saved arcades for a while)
Arkanoid (so addicting)
Warcraft II (reason for so many sleepless nights at lans)
Duke Nukem 3D (can you say LA Rumble?)
Half Life 1 (I loved that crossbow sound)
Phantasy Star 2 (my first RPG that I played completely through)
Zelda
Dragon Warrior

not my first game but did anyone ever play the game 7th Guest... it was like a myst type game in some haunted house with all these puzzles... ahhh for some reason i just thought of that and how i wasted VERY VERY long time on it

my first games were on the beast of a computer... my Tandy hahaha

and my atari for consoles (never a big console fan to this day though)

Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, is the first game that really got me playing a lot, then BF1942 is what truly got me hooked.

The game RISK on ms-dos. Played it off of a floppy 5 1/4". I think it had like 8 colors or so. Was so much fun and entertaining. Makes me wanna download it :p

for me,
PC: Silent Service (DOS)
Console: Venture (Colecovision)
On-line: LORD (Legend Of the Red Dragon)

Well online gaming would have to be tradewars. Back before the internets.

But gaming in general.. what game got me into the most... hummm.... Jumpman was good... I could waste hours on that... Tron for the INtellivision... hrm... Battleship on the intellivision I remember days when me and a friend would play that game endlessly.

HUmmm...

Yea I'm old.

Wizardry still deserves mention as the true first RPG.

Well what got me started on gaming in general was tetris, duck hunt, tank wars, dragon quest, gyromite, etc. Nintendo titles. I started hitting the internet about video games after civ2 I think.
