Hey all, check the WU/MU/Ultimate Extras Portal

There may be something neat & new there. :)

Assuming you're running Vista Ultimate Edition, of course.

Well dreamscene preview just caused "Graphics Driver not responding" errors every few seconds when I tried it now afer an Ultimate Update.

This is with an 8800GTX and 100.59 Forceware.

Cool, if there's an error log, make sure it gets uploaded. (I've heard bad things about 8800s and Vista to start with, and the latest drivers have made my non 8800 a bit wonky too.)

Where's the Waterfall. Am I missing something? The provided background is SO lame.

"What Waterfall?"

DreamScene, especially the (PREVIEW) is the engine. You go find content. :)

Go shoot a video of a waterfall. :)

(I know, I'm a bastard)

Have you disabled the power saving options? I had the same problem running anything remotely taxing such as gaming or even the 3D features of the Aero interface. Changing this to the high power option appears to have removed this problem. You may need to also reboot and/or remove and reinstall the driver.

Stupid question. How do I run it? I downloaded the update and now what? I can't find it. My update history says I have it.

It is not a stupid question. I was looking for it in the desktop properties. :-0 Rt click on the desktop. In the context menu, you should see a "Run Dreamscene Preview" or something to that effect.

In my case, it is greyed out even though: I have Aero on, DreamScene preview install, and it is enabled in my Ultimate features. Weird. Maybe because I am running dual monitors?

Thanks. You helped me so I'll return the favor. It is greyed out by default. It will be visible once you right click on a video file.

Alright, DreamScene rocks. I have a Crysis trailer running, and it is just too tight.

Yeah, it works fine on a 2 monitor setup. Doesn't appear to be hogging system resources too badly either.

Only trick is you need the beefier graphics cards for multimon setups.

If you've got that, it should be happy. I'll try to check this thread periodically. Since I've worked with the guys who made this, I'll try to point bugs to them, or vice versa. For design changes and desires, I'm not gonna forward 'em on, they've already got all sorts of people at MS giving them free advice. :)

Hope ya'all enjoyed it, I had some fun getting this ready to be beta'd by all of ya'all.

Real version -- Sometime. :)

im getting this error

"windows dream scene cannot run because the total desktop size exceeds the primary video adapters maximum texture size"

is this because its trying to span across both screens as a combined resolution, which would be @ 1200x 3656 or whatever my combined size is, and my graphics card can only do max 1920X1200?

It's nice, but am I going to waste my multi thousand dollar system looking at my desktop?;)

Yea that is pretty freakin sweet... but it does take around 20% total cpu power.. meaning 10% on each or round about with my other crap running and loaded.

I guess it really isn't that bad. I wonder does it free up when you load?

Also yes mine too bombed and wouldn't work. But pulled down the current forceware drivers just released today from Nvidia and it now works like a charm.

That's just an HD demo. It takes about 20% cpu.
But the regular/vanilla dreamscenes take 1-3% cpu

Ok, this may sound stupid but I cant figure out where I can download dreamscape/demo from. I have ultimate yet its not under my extras for download

Ward, did you refresh by clicking the "check for updates" in the upper left corner of the Windows Update panel?

Never mind. Link is at top of page. A bit confusing.

just tried it out, and it bsod'd my vista, I dunno if its vista, nvida, or the video file, I am gonna try to figure it out, when I feel like it. lol

its nvidia, i think if you update drivers it'll work. atleast thats what ive heard from a few guild mates of mine. as for me i didnt have problems

Thanks man.

Stupac, thanks for sharing with all of us.

Can you tell me:

How do you get yours to go from one DreamScene to another without clicking on anything? Also I noticed you had the same DreamScene on two different monitors. Can you do a different DreamScene on each monitor? Last but not least, what was that song you were playing?

Hmm, I don't recall if I was doing anything or not. Wasn't I right clicking on videos to set as desktop? I dunno things just become rote.

I'll have to try different DreamScenes on two monitors. Nvidia drivers should allow me to do two independent desktops, but I can;t at the moment. Maybe UltraMon will let me do something like this. I'll have to sniff around.

Song: Alice in Chains - Angry Chair. (I was sitting down);)

I didn't see you changing the DreamScene, just looked like it was one bif loop.

Thanks man.

well I am convinced that its my video card drivers thats causing my dreamscene and fullscreen videos to bsod.
