Would Bose Triports make a good V-Day present?

Im looking for a gift for my girlfriend for Valentines day and am wondering if a pair of Bose Triports would be the ticket. As some of you might know i recently posted on here about how i needed replacements for my Sony MDR-D55's and i got a set of Sony MDR-D777LP's that so far i am fairly impressed with, though they do have low bass.

Anyways she loved my D55's because of the feel of them, and refuses to give up my new set of D777's, and since we are planning a summer long trip to Europe this summer i figured her own headphones like the ones mentioned would be good on the plane and on trains.

I have never been really impressed with Bose, i think they (some might say Sony as well) sell an inferior product for twice the price. This is my person opinion, i guess im just brand loyal to Sony (dont flame me in the post, that is what PM's are for.. lol).

So long and the short of it, are they worth $150? I would get her another set of D777's but thought i might venture out of the Sony world and see what else is offered.

Thanks for any advice...!

I'm going to be piled under a hill of shit for this one, but I like the bose triports, they have a very ...involving(?), roomy, auditorium style sound. Too bad they are built to fall apart..I mean really, can they make the damn things much flimsier?

I have listened to them before, and they sound okay. I don't think they are worth $150. They sound just about the same as my PX100's which were $50 dollars. What does she listen too? If comfort isn't a big issue the Grado SR60's sound very nice and are far cheaper. On the whole there are better sounding cans out there that are cheaper.

Yenno I thought about getting my girlfriend something techy like that...

...I ended up getting her a Coach purse :p

i got a set of triports a year or so ago as a present and while i do think they are nice, they're definitely not worth $150. they're more comparable to $50 headphones i've had in the past.

They are a piece of shit. Get her real headphones like shure, sennheiser, grado, etc etc. Bose is more hype than anything else..Save your money. Give her the bose only if she feels strongly about them otherwise go elsewhere.

Yeah, they make a great V-day present...

comfort is a big issue, that is one of the reasons she really liked my D55's and my new D777's. That was the main thing, i was really impressed with how good they felt, as much as i like my new D777's the triports feel better, i guess its because they are so much lighter.

Wouldn't say they are pieces of shit, but they are not worth 150. It really comes down to what sound good to your ear. Some people swear by Grado, some Sennheiser, some Bose so forth. Just have her try some different pairs and see which she likes more.

Well, they are lighter, but they are not as well built. There are several pairs of Sennheiser's that sound really nice and are very comfortable. Have her try some of those.

lol, thats pretty good! hahahah..... possibly if i brougt home another HDTV she might consider it... im eyeing one for the bedroom thats a 32inch for $499 + shipping.

Get her Sennheiser HD555s...

Better than the Bose's (Its the genereal opinion of the High-End audio world that Bose sucks) and they are perhaps the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn.

No highs, no lows...must be Bose...

No, seriously. They are marketing geniuses and for the market they are in, they do very well. Are they the best? Hell no. Are they terrible and a waste of money? I don't think so. Their speakers sound fine for the application they are intended for, which is being minimalistic and out of the way while providing fairly immersive sound, though they can be overpriced for what you're getting. Still, people will pay a lot of money for the convenience of a system in a box that has a reputation of being fairly good and doesn't require a lot of technical expertise to set up.

Anyway. Like everyone else in this thread says--I wouldn't give the triports much consideration. They are just too fragile and don't sound good enough to be worth the price. Even if you don't buy from them, the folks at HeadRoom have great reviews and recommendations on a huge variety of headphones for every budget. I say start there first and decide what you want to get. Then go elsewhere if you don't like their prices, but I think their guarantees and excellent customer support are worth a few more dollars.

one of my cousins has a pair of bose triports. I borrowed them for the afternoon so I could listen to them... well they're crap. the bass (what bass) is muffled, mids are grainy and highs are shrill.

the next day I sat down w/ my cousin and pulled out a few of my portable cans and had him listen to each one individually and see what he liked. Well it was no surprise that he liked all the cans I presented to him better then his Bose, and the best part was... all of them cost LESS!

cans demoed:
Koss KSC75 (stock) $20 or less
AKG k81dj (starquad cable) $70ish with cable if used, about $90 new
Grado SR80 (Senn HD414 pads) $100-105 w/ pads

All 3 would be a better choice, and save you $ The best of both worlds!

Hey for $230 - $50 off friend discount and - $50 gift card it was a steal :D

Can't beat a genuine Coach for $130.
that is a deal! i spent about $400 last month on a coach purse for my girlfriend's bday gift. i could've bought an 8800 with that money lol.

BOSE is just tat with a huge price tag stuck on it - take their stuff to bits and you'll find awful cardboard cones and economy parts.

I have Bose Triports(around ears) and they are quite comfy compared to the Sony and Sennheiser headphones that I have.

well i got them for her, she opened them, and said "what is wrong with your headphones" ... so needless to say i took them back to BB. Ill send my old D55's to Sony to get repaired for $58.

Sorry for all your guy's hard work going to waste.
