Why is your PB only showing a Firewire insignia?

I'd bet he's got it setup in Fireiwre Target Disk mode connected direct to that MacBook.[/QUOTE]

Does that mean he's booting OS X off a Firewire partition? Any benefits? I want to try that.

He accessing the harddrive in the Powerbook just like an external firewire drive. I doubt he's using it as a boot drive.

Pretty ghetto for now, but hey, its college:

Ibook g4 1.2 with 1.25 gbs RAM
Samsung 19" lcd
3G ipod 20 gig
120 external hdd under the table
pro keyboard
MS mouse w/ old school 80's apple mousepad

Need to work on those wires in back.

There is my new Black Macbook and my whole setup pretty much. The Macbook is my first Mac since 1996 but I am starting to pick up on it. I'm glad to be back in the Mac world!

That reminds me so much of my setup it's not even funny.

I have to get my hands on a camera soon here...

Yeah I just set it up like that today because my old setup was extremely cluttered and inefficient. Now that I don't have my massive Sager on my desk I actually have some room to spread things out a bit.

Well I also meant like gear wise lol, same lian-li case in black, black lcd, mx518, hp c3180, black macbook, same speakers, lol, just a lot of the same things.

Why pine? I understand that it's cheap and easy to work with, but it's really soft and you'll eventually have dings and scrapes on your desk surface...unless you have a really heavy coat of lacquer and can just re do it every once in a while.

Not sure about the original poster, but I'd say your first two reasons are precisely "why pine". Properly finished, pine is a perfectly viable desk building material, and if you like the look, it is definitely economically efficient.

Totally random, but I just built a rolling kitchen island out of the hardest maple I have ever encountered. It turned out great in the end, but man was it a #$%^%$ to work with! There were several instances where I cursed my choice of building material (drilling out a square mortise from extremely hard wood is no fun indeed!)

I used pine as it was the easiest material to source round here, and the cheapest. Not to mention being big enough for the size I needed :)

I've waxed it, which protects it a little, there is the odd scrap, but its a desk they all get scratched in the end :)

I miss pine. :( Haha, "pining for pine." :p

I'm definitely a forest kind of guy, and pine, birch and spruce are probably my favorite trees. The supply of those here in London is very limited, and that's an understatement.

That's some serious wear-n-tear on the trackpad. Do you get a lot of uses out of the native keyboard/trackpad?

Anyone who had their white Macbook keyboard area replaced at the store, how long did that take?

I was actually thinking of doing a black keyboard area and keys on my white Macbook to prevent the discoloring and easy dirtying.

My track pad looks like within a day of use. It's not wear & tear.... just skin oils. a microfiber cloth and some alcohol/ammonia free cleaning solution cleans it right up.

Thats a sweet paint job on your laptop. How did you do the red apple? Is it just the trick with the colored sulifane?

Don't post pics with hacked versions of OS X running on PC's. It's illegal.
Posting pictures of a PC running OS X is not illegal. The action of installing it and doing the work is "illegal".

However, I will gladly post my PC w/ OS X once I get my monitor. I have the right to post it, too.

I will finally have a real mac to contribute to this thread on friday (or maybe sooner if fed-ex is nice to me). Both the desktop and the laptop in my sig are up for sale and they are getting replaced with a 2ghz core 2 duo macbook :)

I will post my setup once I get everything situated and organized on my desk.

fine then, but I don't think the mods like seeing it anyway - all the other time's I've seen it its been deleted.

I wish the mods here would get over OS X on a PC. I understand if they don't want people discussing how to do it and where to get it, but Apple lets the one website (you know what it is if you know) where a lot of the work is done keep going. I really don't see what the big deal is. I own a mac, and having OS X on my PC is just something I do for the fun of hacking/messing with things, not for any serious use. I'm suprised no one has complained about it being in my sig.
