She just called from work. Seems they have a whole pallet in the back full with them. Someone convince me to tell her to buy it over a WII. :D

Personally...despite the fact it is the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market (I think BR will go the way of BetaMax and MiniDisc)...I can't justify spending so much on a system; add to that the fact that (again, personally) I'm not big on any of Sony's exclusive titles, but have enjoyed the Halo series and find the Wii controller much more enjoyable than the sixaxis, and PS3 just isn't all that and a bag of chips (again, that's just me...gotta keep the flameboys at bay;))

I'm sure your going to enjoy the PS3 down the road, but for the moment its going to sit there. Ive been playing my Wii no stop since I got it and its definitely more popular at the parties

i have both systems. both are great and this argument about it being to expensive is still retarded.

PS3 with a blu ray player costs the same as 360 with its HD DVD player add on. Completely the same cost but has built in a 802.11 and a 60gig hdd instead of 20gig.

there isn't much out yet for ps3. but that will change in the next couple of months. Id say get one. it's a great system. and if you decide on the 360. there are a lot of great games already out and it too is a great system.

I have a wii also. totally different experience. its not graphically pleasing compared to the other two systems. but wii sports and zelda are both fun but thats all thats out that really wets my interests.

Id say go with the PS3. its the most expensive and she's buying ;)

This just in... you don't have to buy the HD-DVD player.

I'm on the fence about the PS3 myself. I'm so tempted to buy it but I'm not sure if I'll get my moneys worth. The BlueRay part is so tempting.

Thanks guys. I'm going to wait on a Wii. I really want to play zelda.

How much dos the Wii retail for with Zelda?

wait a year or so on the PS3. great games will be available and you can ask the haters how crow tastes.

In a year when the PS3 is probably $400-500 and has a good game catalog, there won't be many haters around.

And for good reason... Sony will have fixed most peoples' complaints by then. But as it stands now, it is not worth the money Sony wants for it.

As much as i understand why they do it. I'd like to kick every one of those assholes on ebay in the balls who wants 100 dollars over what they paid.

Especially the assholes who buy 10 of them just to put on ebay.

Unless you have a 1080p capable tv then it won't be worth it. Of course the same goes for HD-DVD..

I would have to agree with everyone else... stay away from the PS3 as of right now...

For the best game catalog go with the X360
For most "non-conventional" family fun go with the Wii

I have always been a PC gamer since the original NES, never had anything but the PSone or the NES. Since probably about 10yrs ago I have been a strict PC gamer until I heard about the Wii(revolution) and decided that I wanted to get one. Well now I have it and love every minute of it. My future in-laws want me to bring it over all the time and my fiance' plays it constantly (actually she plays it more than I do because I spend most of myt nights on the computer doing school work... damn masters program). There is some novelty to it that wears off after the first month or so but that is a very minut bit. The best thing abou it is that you have to get off your ass and actually be a part of the game, not just sit and twitch your thumbs. But like I said, for the time being stay away from the PS3 and let the game catalog mature a bit, the X360 has the best variety and the Wii has a better catalog than the PS3 but they are not aimed at the hardcore gamer.

I guess you haven't seen it running at 720p then. HD-DVD is well worth it, and I would imagine Blu-Ray is as well. Don't fall into the 1080p hype.

I moved from 720p to 1080p and I am well enjoying 1080p over 720p, though I wouldnt say its extremely that much better, but I can tell the difference, plus I want my HD-DVD's to run at full resolution they were designed too, but I guess I just am anal like that...

my GF wants to buy me a PS3 for valentines day... lol... I just dont know if its worth it though... but I will be happy whether I get one or not.

That's beside the point. My argument was that HD-DVD or Bluray on 720p is worthwhile, not that 1080p useless. It's ignorant for someone to call HD-DVD useless on 720p.

Hey tell her that you would rather have her spend the $600+ on a nice day at a spa for the two of you or something like that. I think she is trying to involve herself in something that you enjoy if she wants to get you one for V-Day. I am not one for massages, scrubs, spa treatments or anything like that but we just spent our 6yr anniversary at one and I must say it was quite nice and enjoyable. She spent about $300+ for the day and it was well worth the money. Try throwing that at her and see what she says!

I agree with you :) was just sharing my thoughts on it all.

I wouldn't mind a PS3... If it was being given to me.

I just got a 360 and freakin' love it! Next up will be a Wii when they're out and about for the Wii60 combo.

The PS3 will have to wait until it has exclusive must-have games. I don't really care for HD movie content yet and the only reason I want an HD-DVD drive is for its large storage capabilities (in a PC drive of course).

News claiming that Fatal Inertia is now comming to 360 made my day :)

LOL, I think your BR theory isnt all that and a bag of chips. Have you walked by the DVD area in Target/Walmart/BestBuy/etc? The BR DVD collection is explanding very quickly....

Let me just say this. I JUST got my 46 inch Sharp LCD 1080i/p Flatscreen, and I've watched 2 movies on it so far using my PS3. One was The Last Samari, which is just the standard DVD format, and then I watched Talahaga Nights (which came with my PS3) that is a BR DVD and I was watching it at 1080i, and the quality difference is amazing.

I think BR DVD's arn't going to follow BetaMax, you can fit so much more onto 1 BR DVD... I think it would be nice to watch The Lord of the Rings in 1080i WITHOUT swapping out DVD's.

This is how I look at all 3 consoles and how I made my decision.

X360 : Didn't get because I have a friend that worked in Customer Care for X360 and he explained to me that this console (not the titles coming out for it) is a total POS. The problems that he has explained to me about the console and what people go through made me feel that its simply not worth it (At the moment... maybe when the console is revised)

Wii : Although I'm a HUGE Nintendo fan, I love my NES, SNES, N64 and my GC... I didn't get this console, simply because I work 12 hour shifts, I stand up almost 50% of the time and I want to come home and be LAZY and sit while enjoying my games, not look like I'm trying to do the Macarina. I can see how this console would be a fun party game ... but not with the crowd I hang out with, most of which just like either racing games or fighting games (I think with most of my friends I'm still playing my DreamCast more than any system because for some reason Marvel vrs Capcom 2 is our favorite game of all time to play) So because of this aspect I choose not to get the Wii, maybe later when I have more energy to throw my arms around like mad man.

PS3 : Was actually a gift for me as well. I don't think I could actually bring myself to purchase one on my own. Now that I have it, I've very excited and glade to have one. I never had a PS2, and since the PS3 library is very small at the moment, this gives me a great chance to enjoy a lot of PS2 titles that I never got the chance to play through with my wireless controllers (and new TV :) )

You will probably find people are going to lean with the console they own. People are prowd of what the own (for the most part) and the time they spend with it. If people try to tell you the X360 is better than the PS3 or the Wii better than the PS3 or maybe vis versa, its probably because they are enjoying what they are playing, being ignorant of the fact that all consoles have "fun" and enjoyable games, and simply just want you to experiance what they are.

Things that should influence your decision.

What games are out now?
What games are to come?

Because honestly who really cares what console your using, only thing I care about is what game I'm playing and how much am I enjoying that game.

IMHO, The BR capacity advantage is a farce. There are already two disc special edition BR and HD-DVDs... and you know damn well they are not using the maximum capacity. They are putting it on two disks because your average consume will go "ZOMG 2-DISCS... MUST BE BETTER!". It is pure marketing bullshit... but if they aren't even going to use a discs maximum capacity because they would rather trick the consumer into thinking they are getting more by having multiple discs... then who cares how much the disc can hold?

Yeah, the whole idea of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD eliminating the need for multi-disk sets isn't going to happen. Like the above poster mentioned, there are already multi-disk's for both. Hell, most of the normal 480p DVD's are half-empty, yet they LOVE using multiple disks a selling point.
In terms of quality behind Blu-Ray/HD-DVD over normal ones, it's there...but it's not THAT big of a difference. In some movies there's almost none. In fact, I've run into a few HD/Blu-Ray movies that are still letterboxed and only take up 75% of the screen. That alone defeats some of the resolution advantages IMO. There's no doubt they look better, but compared to the jump from VHS to DVD, I don't even think it's close.

I know little about the PS3.

but, the will allows you to download N64 games, NGC games (if you dont have the NGC mini disk, which, is a format wii supports), as well as genisis games, for ~$10. Also you CAN plug in an NGC controller, and as I understand it you CAN get an adapter for an N64 controller. So its still got conventionallity, I just wished Nintendo had cracked the rights, and paid for the R500. Then the Wii would be a no brainer.

and to whoever it was that said "Gears of War is a basic nothing-new game". Your absolutly right, but why change something thats perfect? DAMMMMNNNNN that game is fun. I realllllly hope there comes a PC ver.

LOL your crazy man. He can keep his PS3 for years, but a day at the spa is just that, a single day.

I do understand though, its kinda girly, but getting pampered is nice!

Well I was trying to look a little deeper at the fact that she wasnt just trying to buy him a PS3. Yeah it can last for years on end but what I am looking at is the fact that she wants to do something that will be a part of him, something he enjoys. Instead of her buying him something that he will stare at for countless hours (the machine/tv) why not flip the coin on her and baffle her a little and switch that thing that he will stare at for countless hours to her. More than likely I am reading into this a bit too much but you never know. With the PS3's current catalog I see it collecting dust more than anything, while a day at the spa could open endless doors (YES men do have a one track mind). Fact in point, I received and email yesterday from a female co-worker of a picture of a little boy and a little girl (about age 3-4). They are both wearing nothing but their underwear and they are both looking into the girls "pants." There is a small speaking bubble above the girl that says "With this I will rule your life." I about fell outta my chair laughing so hard, so true in so many ways. IE my fiance walking infront of me naked last night while I was watching my show, only sit down next to me and ask me ...Honey, will you go to the store and get me some dinner. I need something sweet to munch on. Needless to say a few minutes later I found myself in the car driving to the store while she was playing SMW on the Wii.

Wow your girl does that too?? LOL, my girl will sometimes ask me to do like 3-4 things, and then have the nerve to ask.. "Baby, will you please do me 1 huggggge favor?" and I respond "I already have 3 on my list" .... then the sad face comes and I react by saying "what can I do?"

Day at the spa does sound good.

alot of it has to do with xbox live. i do have fun with the wii with the wife. ps3 just the lack of games right now.

But see the thing that you are missing is that Nintendo didnt want the Wii to be just like the other consoles on the market. Why advertise to a small market segment (ie pure gamers or hardcore gamers) when you can advertise to a COMPLETE market (ie EVERYONE) and sell your product at a really low price compared to the other guys. I know, I know that graphically the Wii does not compare AT ALL to the PS3 or X360 but that is exactly it. Nintendo didnt want it to be just like those guys, with the integration of the R500 graphics chip, it would have raised the price probably another $100 bucks, which is not what Miyamoto wanted. Originally he wanted the system to cost $100 bucks, thats the same package as it stands today. Can you imagine the popularity of it if the Wii was $100 bucks!!!!! Nintendo has always been about bringing a quality product to the front, nothing fancy or over the top, just something that is fun and will deliver. Well I think they got it with this one more than ever.!!

This is my situation exactly. I like the 360 because I've got a ton of games for it and I like playing Street Fighter and Burnout online.
My wife likes Wii Sports and Zelda, plus we're both Smash Brothers and Mario Kart fans.
I got the PS3 for the future...although I bought it NOW for Tekken:DR and so we can Netflix Blu-Rays.

LOL.... yeah hence why I ended up redoing our entire bathroom, tiling and all, by myself while she played Super Mario Bros on the Wii and went to get her nails done. Sometimes she will just brush up against me (shes a 36DD), give me a quick peck on the cheek and say... Baby, can you do XXXX for me...... well you know the story after that.

Id do that 1st, then i personally would go for the PS3, it is the most expensive and its being given to you. you can play GTHD for FREE and Motorstorm is about to come out which will be very good IMO. Wiis are cheap but scarce right now.
