Free Vista Business / Office 2k7 pro (part deux)

Nope, not allowed to trade or sell NFR software.

Which sucks because I would do the same thing, if it was allowed. But those darn lawyers sure are intimidating.

But it does not say NFR on the Office sleeve. All you get is a sleeve that contains the product key and the download site.

I got my office 2k7 in the mail yesterday. Im lovin it already. This is a damn good find, the retail value of office 2007 professional plus is like 500 bucks.

Just want to extend a thanks to the original poster of this deal, youve saved me a significant amount of green and as a destitute college student, i really aprpeciate it. :D

Exactly. I may end up with 2 copies, in which case, I'll be offering up one for sale - my HTPC doesn't need Office.

well if anyone has any extra vistas or even office, i could take one off your hands. maybe for a demonoid of acid-lounge invite. :)

Received mine in the mail today... South Carolina.

I hate to ask... but was it ever settled if this was the full version or upgrade?

This is the full version. The real question is whether it's retail or OEM.

It's a retail license.

Proof? How do you know it's a retail license?

Sorry, I'm not calling you a liar but there have been so many conflicting stories over the past 2 weeks it's unreal. Someone the other day said they tried installing this on more than one machine (not two machines at the same time mind you, two in succession) and it wouldn't allow him to do so citing that the key was already in use on another machine. It's my understanding that the installations tied to a key that is operating under a retail license won't exhibit this behavior.

I'd bet that any validated install wouldn't validate if you tried to install/validate it again in the same day/week/maybe even month - that's why they give you 30 days, so you can be sure it's good. If they see multiple installs right away, you're very likely to not get validation. I'm going with the guy running to promotion: retail license w/o support.

For what it's worth, I've never had to call to activate XP, and I've been using the same copy since 2003 - averaging 2 installs/yr. It asked once, I said no, then tried via Internet again, and it worked.

http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=272476 - see Mark Brown's post.

Since I'm here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx - to get x64 disc's / cd install for cost of shipping
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302822 - will eventually be able to order 'replacement' Office 2007 disc's in a few weeks for those who love to have the disc.

As far as installing on multiple computers, supposedly there is a 'recently activated' type system where it will bother you if you try to activate the same key on two pc's in a small time frame on retail licenses. A retail license allows you to install on multiple computers, but you must uninstall on one before installing on the other. However this is completely on the honor system, so... wink wink. (Forgot where I heard this, sorry.)

This is something I posted over at Rage3d and thought you guys might find it interesting if not as infuriating as I have found it.

Yea...I installed my free business copy last Sunday and then after finally getting around to installing a piece of hardware that wasn't originally detected on the install..I get a popup that says "due to hardware changes windows needs to be reactivated" Ok...so I click to activate it online and it says "key already in use" yea...no shit, I"M using it...how can i resolve this quickly...If i need to talk to microsoft can somebody point me in the right direction...I'm pissed

I already tried that ...thanks for trying...also, i really don't think its right for me to have to call a fee based number...I didn't do anything wrong..this is their fault..I didn't touch anything inside my computer from the minute i installed it to the minute it asked for another activation..fucking insane!

Ok, update...after an excruciating "chat" with a "professional" (i say excruciating because A) they could have been a bot for all i knew and B) it took forever for them/it to reply) I was informed that I have 3 free activations with MSCC (Microsoft Customer Central) at 18009365700. Will give them a try tomorrow...Christ this sucks.

Edit: I forgot to mention at one point they flat out said I would need to purchase another key from Microsoft...can you beleive that?

Whoops, I'll dig a little further. ;o)

(Although I must mention, that the person he half quoted was asking about both licenses and since he made no distinction...)

Edit: --btw these supposedly both work for the office license, can anyone confirm the second?

The 2nd DL is the Accounting Express program. I still have Office Pro on the trial license right now, but I assume that this would not matter.

Also, how many of us really need "Accounting Express" anyway?

Thats the thing...I didn't "ADD" any hardware, although, I may have installed the drivers of said hardware after the initial activation, causing it to think i added a new piece.
And that's why you get 30 days - you don't activate shit until you're PC is running perfect.

Not that this is all OK, but there's a reason there's a 30 day activation period.

Also, still nothing in NorCal. e-mailed asking what's up - I sent my W9 in very promptly.

That's completely fucking retarded if true - I must change and install different drivers a dozen times a month. Vista and I are not going to get along well if this is indeed the case.

MS said that the new system worked much better than the old one and that it'd take a major H/W change before it'd ask you to reactivate, so I'm surprised this is still happening. That said, I probably wouldn't activate until it started shutting off features, but that's just because I dislike registering software and like activation even less.

I actually had this happen to me once with XP when I updated a video card driver. Updated the driver and XP told me I had to activate.

I tried the internet and no-go. I had to call up MS and did it that way. The next time I reinstalled XP, the internet activation method worked, so go figure...

Anyway, it only happened once, so the Vista problem *might* have just been a just a hicccup! At least, I hope so, as I update drivers quite often.

Vista is set to auto-activate after 3 days. They got a little sneaky about it, however, I believe you can still turn it off and activate manually.

I know that in RC1 and RC2 that there was a checkbox fot this under the box where you type the key in. Unless they've removed it from RTM then I'd say it's not that sneaky, but in plain site.

I hope it ends up better...and from now on I'll wait about 15 days before I activate to work out the kinks...

Lets hope this is the case.

I got mine.

Question, what kind of activation terms and conditions does office 07 have? I want to install it on my XP PC, but later when I put together a quad core system I'd like to be able to install it on that. I just want to make sure I'll be able to transfer my copy to a different PC later on.

Seeing as it's a retail license you should have absolutely no issues. Feel free to install it now and then again later on your new system.

Oh and I'm pretty sure you can have office installed on 2 PCs simultaneously. :) Sweet eh?

Uhhh, Is that in the EULA? If so, I would be very happy with that. But, I am pretty sure that all the new WGA stuff would find it on both installations....

Just got mine delivered yesterday. the only question i have at this point is that the shipping invoice called them vista-eval and office-eval, makes me wonder if this is the RTM version or something else?

Yes, it's the RTM version. The very same that is being sent to store shelfs. Eval ust means that it's for evaluation purposed only, and not for permanent use in a production system.

Got mine yesterday - Nor Cal.

Also got an email this morning that said mine would be shipping in the next 2-3 weeks. :D
