Help with monitor selection. (Westy 37" vs. Dell 24".)

I went to Best Buy, where they have a ton of Westinghouse displays . . . it is too big. They did not have the right version of the 37, but it was good enough . . . plus they had a bunch of other monitors.

The Sony and LG screens definitely looked better than all the Westinghouse displays (there were at least 10 screens, 7 monitors) . . . but I do not know how they look for desktops, and their sizes, plus they could have been better adjusted than the Westinghouses.

I am glad I saw them in action; it is just too big.

I like the size, but have to agree about the comparison. I've been considering the 37w3 for a while, but comparing it in Best Buy kills it for me. Maybe it has a bad signal, but it just doesn't look good next to the others. All these positive reviews are tempting, though...

Has anyone tried the Westy with space games like X3 Reunion? Googling for the two brings up a post on here about X3 not looking right on it.

your post doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me
you claim you dont even use it for sdtv and then claim its a perfect 10/10 and then you claim the westy is not that good

He's saying that it's good as a monitor and for any HDTV sources such as PS3 or Xbox 360, but that it's terrible for analog tv except for the hd channels.

From what I've read on this guy that it's a good monitor so to speak but if you want it to primarily watch analog tv then I'd get something else.

I have the same delima.

I am trying to choose between westigy and 24/27inch dell, Benq or samsung in next week or so.

My main use for the computer is just like the origianl poster,

Watching movies
Playing console games
Web surfing
and work (but majoirty of time, I use my laptop for my work).

I am curretnly using 23in Samsung LCD TV as my monitor and while this servered me well as HDTV, as computer monitor, resolution is too low for the computer use and when I want some bigger screen for the gaming. So I initially made decision to get 27 Dell or new samsung monitor which comes out in few weeks, but everytime when I go through westy thread, I can't stop thinking bout westy and other options...

Now, if I was to get 27 inch, then for the same price I can get the Westy.
But then again, I seat about 3-4 feet away from the monitor and I am afraid 37 westy might be too big for me to handle. I tired to use 32 inch 720P HD monitor, and when I sat in front of it, everything was too big. 32inch monitor didn't have 1920x1080 resoltuion so maybe it was the resolution... for my use, I kinda feel like westy is a better choice.

Then there is 24 inch monitor. Has a great computer desktop resolution i was looking for but it's only 24 icnh. 1 inch more than my current HDTV/Monitor. So this brings me back to 27 inch. While price isn't all that attactive for 27 inch, it is 4 inch bigger and has higher resolution than my current HDMonitor. The it goes back to westy again for the price/size/quality....

heellllp

I actually decided to go back to the LCM-37W3 . . . as long as people confirm that the problems I have with it, well the W2 to be more specific, is that BestBuy just has crappy set-up/signals and so on thus caused all the grainyness on the displays.
I will get a wall mount if I have to (as in, if it is too close sitting on my desk), but only if it is too close; I will try it without a wall mount first.

The 37W3 has no problems at all, that deal with what I want to do . . . only bad think I read about is that it has SD capability problems and so on; but I have never read anything bad about it for PC usage, just huge raves.

And I think I was just overwhelmed by the size when I first looked . . . when I go to take my Razer Copperhead back to Best Buy, I will look at the display(s) again; and ask if there is a way I could see how it looks when hooked up to a PC (probably not).
