I'm not certain this is true, don't have my copy yet, but I heard with Vista Ultimate you can use a Video as your desktop wallpaper.

Why don't you start and tell us what features you found that you did not know about?

ZOMG I just watched the Bill Gate Times Square presentation and it ended with his deputy giving a presentation of a lot of these kinds of features that aren't obvious at first glance.

Then it ended with him activating the video wallpaper, of a Vista scene with a sunset and a field of grass.... that was waving!

I WANT MY WAVY GRASS!!!!!!

Oh I just clicked "check for updates" and a whole load of stuff just appeared.

Go get it!!

So...this video wallpaper thingy...is only on Vista Ultimate?

What are the requirements for this video wallpaper and a smoothly running Vista?

That sounds swwet! Do you know where to get what he was using, any screenshots?

Does the video card count for half your score or something in the performance score?

I get a 2.8 and my system is

X2 4400+ @ 2.6ghz
Asus A8N-E
Giel 1gig PC3200
Raptor 74gig 16mb
WD 250G 7200 16mb
Samsung 18x DVD/RW
EVGA 7300GT
WIndows Vista Ultimate

Can someone linky the site where you can test your system and get a score? It's the new 3DMark!

Also, that video with the moving wallpapers just made me feel veeeery nice.

your base score is based on the lowest score. so you got a 2.8 for somethin, graphics, mem, i dunno what. you'd have to post all the numbers

Not to threadcrap, if this is, I'm sorry - but for those that want the Video Wallpaper and aren't switching to Windows Vista, you can do the same thing with VLC Media Player, it is free and a solid media player offering the ability to play a wide range of formats, as well as having the wallpaper feature. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ if you are interested.

I haven't gotten my copy of Vista yet, but I read that it has a function to access a thumbdrive kindof like system RAM... any truth?

I found this while wibble browsing..

i think vistas a waste

i had RC1 for a bit cause i had to reinstall XP and it wouldnt work so i tried vista and that installed but it somehow managed to install 3 files onto my 2nd hard drive making the drive unusable for XP, it cause an issue with the boot stuff. also the windows repair didnt work (a msg came up saying it didnt know how to preform the operation) also y did they get rid of safe mode, and change the boot manager stuff. at the time, the weather widget didnt work, it said 60F and actuall was 43F. i couldnt stand the permission boxes constantly asking if i wish to perform some action, like installing a prog or deleting a file and being asked like 3 times if i was sure. areo looked cool but would randomly disappear.

the only thing i did like was the windows key+ tab to scroll thru open apps

i'll eventually get vista since i need windows for engineering program i have but would go linux if i had the chance, i'm tired of all the shit that goes wrong with windows

um yeah but sorry, you're talking about RC1 which still had issues for people. Now that its done, its vastly different. Dont base one bad experience with what most people would still call beta to what it is now. For me and many many others, vista is a hell of a lot better then XP.

ok you know whats annoying when you move your my documents to another drive or my pictures, the My documents and my pictures icon changes.... so lame.....also I do not have 5.1 sound with my nforce 4 board.....only 2.0........

OK... got my Vista Ultimate 64 up and running... its 1:57AM and no Moving Vista Wallpapers available for download... just a download for Texas holdem which i grabbed but it has video glitches on my system.

<sigh>

You go into My Computer and manually navigate to your secondary drive, find the folders that you have re-directed to. Right click and property those and choose the fancy icon from the list, then the shortcut style 'folders' also change back to what they were.

I found the whole system quite fiddy to be honest. Considering most people would want pictures and video on a separate drive I'm surprised there wasn't a wizard that easily set this up for you. I tried looking in the help files but it didn't mention storing your pics/music on a separate drive at all, or how to change the location of your resource folders. I just had to poke about and do it all manually, folder by folder. Pain in the arse imo.

hmmm.... but when I go to change I do not see the fancy green folder in the icon changer.....ok never mind fixed thanks alot... Finkus!!!

All the people bashing vista in this thread, go somewhere else. This is not a discussion of the merits of one operating system over another, its about the neat little features that you have found that may not be obvious at first.

A feature i like is the ability to map my network and it actually recognizes everything! I double click on my router icon and it brings up the admin panel for it. nice.

And this is a big one, japanese and korean fonts and languages work out of the box! no fuss, no muss!

Whats cool about dreamscene is you can pu pretty much any wmv or mpeg videos on there, I have the HD clip of T2 running as my desktop.

I do not see this extras upgrade maybe its because I am canadian eh?? I got texas holdem, but not 'dreamscene'....even though I could just use vlc....

Vista's BitLocker drive encryption sounds like a good thing for laptop users who lose their slab.

I wonder if the memory stick drives on my printer could be used for ready boost???

I wish there were more windows movies to choose from, this is a really great feature.

Man thats just awesome, thanks!.

What do you mean by more to chose from? Is this something you downloaded? I thought you just ripped the dvd and using a portion of it for the video desktop?

The T2 Ultimate Edition DVD has a HD version included in addition to the DVD version.
