who has the loud buzzing sound from the back of the monitor? and who isn't? because if it's only a couple of people that have th noise then mabye mine is a lemon, the noise is coming from where u plug in the power cord. it' really really anoying. any way this can be fixed, firmware or something

I have the buzzing too. Gonna exchange it at my local Futureshop as soon as I see a Dec 2006 model in stock.

Ooooh, Gateway is supposed to be releasing a new version of it?

The whole reason I am even considering the Dell 24" is because the Gateway 24" has a buzzing problem.

If they fixed it, I would be all over it.

So how can you know if it’s a December model?

I don't know how easy it would be to insist that they provide a December model, which presumes that you would have the luxury of asking them to pick and choose amongst the inventory. I don't see that happening very easy.

I am thinking of buying this next week. One local CompUSA is out of stock but has a couple on order, ditto Best Buy. But another CompUSA and Best Buy have a couple in stock, so maybe I should wait till the ones on order come in. They might be more likely to be the December batch. Like a fine wine – the gateway monitor has its better vintages, I guess. December was a better month than November. I wonder how the January models will be.

I don't know about other areas, but the 2 Circuit City's I visited in the Sacramento CA area do not stock them.

Any comments on if the extended (approx $60 for most places) two year warranty is a good deal?

I'm wondering...does all the Nov 2006 batch suffer from the buzzing sound? Or...there are a few out there that don't have it. I have the Nov 2006 version and it buzzes. But, its not loud enough to annoy me enough to return it. If I return it and I happen to get another Nov 2006 batch that has the buzzing and bleeding/dead pixels I'd refund already.

I just checked the Sunday sale papers, and this monitor NEVER seems to go on sale. Damn!

Does anybody know if Gateway has actually "confessed" to their November models being sub-par due to buzzing issues?

If so, I would not have any issues insisting on a December model when I go to CompUSA or Best Buy, to buy it later next week.

Not all Nov 2006 have a buzzing, my last one did not at all. I returned it because of some minor light bleed in the corners. I now have a Dec 2006 that has NO back light bleed and again, no buzzing.

If you have the chance, get a December model. There are stickers on the box that can be of some help to identify. You will have better odds of having back light bleed and buzzing if you get a November however, but that is not 100%. If you do, just take it back.

Yeah, it's still early for it to go on sale at this time. Plus $679 is already a good price as it is. When I got the 21" Gateway for $599 at BB it didn't go on sale for quite a while. The Westinghouse LCDs I notice go on sale often at BB.

Yes it has been on sale for like 3 weeks at CC. It's never on sale at Best Buy.
True -- Best Buy usually does price-match though if it's cheaper somewhere else (aside from mail-in rebates, etc). CC had it on sale for something like $629 without any rebates not too long ago, I'm pretty sure several people mentioned getting it at BB at this price in the official fpd2485w thread.

Are you in the US? Didn't Circuit City just have a $100 rebate on this monitor a week ago?

Yes, I am in northern California in the Sacramento area. Circuit City had a $75 rebate but it was only for online sales. I want to get this at a "brick and mortar" store, so I could pick it up right away, and other reasons. It is a hassle having it shipped.

The Circuit City stores in my area do not stock this.

I see circuitcity.com is now offering $55 off this monitor and free shipping. Pretty good!

BUT --- (and there is always a but) In the other thread about this monitor, everybody is yakking about not getting the November models due to buzzing, and to get the December models which seemed to be free of this issue. The only way I see this can happen is to inspect the box before buying it and leaving the store.

I am of the strong opinion that buying it with only the 1 year warranty is asking for trouble... :D If I go with this over the 2407 or sammy 245T then I am most certainly going with BB's 4 year ext warranty for 170 cdn bucks.
