Hi All,

I will be purchasing an LCD soon, between tomorrow and Monday and I would like to know which one of the following displays are better. I prefer the look of the NEC, but if the HP is better I would prefer a better performing screen and lower price to a better looking bezel. I know that the HP LP2065 uses the newer S-IPS panel (btw, I read something about a panel lottery, are all LP 2065 S-IPS? I am not in the US so its very hard/expensive to send things back). Is NEC doing a better job with the 2070NX overall (backlighting, uniformity, etc) to justify the extra price. I have also read about a high pitched whine that comes from the 2070NX. Is this true, is it actually audible. Is there any noticeable difference in the response time?

I occasionally edit photos, watch movies, play games, linux, etc. Looking for the best quality all around display of the two.

Has anyone actually received a non S-IPS LP2065?

I appreciate input from anyone who owns any of these.

Thanks

Bob

Yeah, in my research I narrowed it down to the same decision. They're both awesome, it just comes down to 2 things.

Do you want to use it as a tv, hook it up to an xbox 360, and watch widescreen movies? Then get the nec.

Do you just want a monitor without tv functions, and don't want widescreen? get the hp. They're both awesome monitors and the same type of s-ips panel.

I'd say either NEC 2070NX or NEC 2090UXi (especially if editing photos is important to you). LP 2065 indeed uses newer panel, but NEC displays are overall better...

Both displaya are excellent, you won't go wrong with either one.

Damuman,

I think you may have mixed up the 2070NX with the 20wmgx2 which I was considering at first however the tuner could result in me paying in excess of 40% duty, so I opted for a s-ips LCD without a tuner, which left 2070NX and the LP2065 as affordable options. I didnt know the LP2065 uses a similar panel to the nec 20wmgx2 though. Wouldnt mind a 4:3 20.1" with no glossy coating that looked almost as good as the 20wmgx2, but does it?

umbolo,

I have previously owned an NEC 1760NX, Samsung 192T (gave it away because of ghosting and washed out look at odd angles) and now have NEC 1765. I am used to NEC, but do you have any idea why the NECs are usually better? Is the 2070NX likely to be better than the LP2065 because of better backlight, electonics etc, dispite the LP2065 having newer panel from the NEC 90 series line?

I was leaning towards the LP2065, because of the lower price and having the newer panel, but would get the NEC if it turned out to be a better display.

Thank you both for the comments so far. More comments are always welcome. I have about 2 more days to come to a final decision.

I would go with the HP2065. Newer panel and it also does portrait mode, the NEC doesn't rotate. Also the HP will take two DVI or or two VGA or one of each and comes with all the cables to do any combination.

There will not be a better backlight in the NEC. Panels are purchased as a unit including the backlight. NEC might change or specify a different backlight in high end units, but in their lowest end S-IPS, the will almost certainly be using the standard backlight unit.

The only difference would be in the input electronics, while NEC has very good input electronics and good color control. There has been nothing wrong with HPs, the HP2065 gets high marks for good color and has no banding artifacts that have plagued Dell. Most likely you won't be disappointed with either.

Oops, you're right. Guess I've become upsessed with mine since I bought it :D

Anyway in this case I believe that nec model is a pva (176 degrees is the giveaway, among other things), and I know that the HP is an ips(178). The HP also has half the response time.

I would go with the HP at the same price. However,it's on sale at newegg now too for 350, so I think it's a pretty easy decision.

gogogogogo! :D

I'm very satisfied with my NEC 2070NX, but at about $120 cheaper I wish I had known about the HP back when I got mine! Newer S-IPS panel with faster response time, 2 DVI inputs, 4 USB 2.0 ports, vertical mode--what's not to like about the HP?

Well, it looks like the LP2065 is the main choice at this point.

Thanks to everyone who contributed.

I recently got the 2065 myself. I've been very pleased. If you don't like glossy screens, it is definitely the way to go.

Should have checked that. I am probably getting it mixed up with the 20wmgx2. Either way, I am not sure the NEC's are worth the difference in cost to most mere mortals.

wait the HP LP2065 uses a "new" S-IPS panel? is it any newer than any others?

I wonder how it compares to the 20WMGX2.

i basically want the 20WMGX2 because that seems to have the newest and best IPS panel, but i dont want/need to pay for all the extra stuff since i just want a high performing monitor, no speakers, or tv tuners or anything like that.

Both are about $550 CDN in Canada  . Which one would be easier on eyes?

I would mainly use it for web browsing and little bit of photo editing. I'm currently awaiting for 2007WFP, I'm not a big of fun of WS plus some users were complaining about having eye fatigue after using Dell monitor, so I want to have a backup plan... ;)
