Sorry Corsair, but those promos on the 6400C4D didn't cut it, so I rma'd them for the microns on the Ballistix 8000. I couldn't get the dominators stable, like everyone else at above 800MHz. Price difference = $40 (worth it)

Just installed the new micron chip, wow! what a difference. I'm testing them right now at 900MHz, no problems so far.

Mem timings are: 5,5,5,15 @ 2.25v

How far can I get these puppies?

E6400 @ 3.35GHz 1.4v
EVGA 680i

They are rated to do 1000mhz @ 2.2 which I'm sure they can do with a tad less voltage. I just recently sold mine and they are great. I bought some cheaper TeamGroups and I'm not impressed at all. They are D9 but they aren't anywhere near as good as the 800 or 1k Ballistix I have had.

hmm, well i just tried 1066MHz (unlinked) at 2.3v and I couldn't get into windows.

it takes a bit of work to overclock. just setting and hoping for the best will only get you so far ;)

the 680i has a good memory controller, just seems a bit finicky. what timings were you using? i do hope you have a fan over the ram at 2.3v.. :p

hmm, well your right, the 680i is a bit finicky like you said. It likes 925MHz at 2.2v, but it doesn't like 980Mhz @ 2.3v.
Cooling is fine, my cpu is at 3.4GHz now @ 48c load. And the system board is at 35c load. I have a window side fan blowing right on the mem chips.

I am manually setting the memory mhz, with unlocked option.

Timings are: 5,5,5,15

I'll keep tweaking it, it definatly likes certain MHz settings. Like I tried 980MHz, didn't like it, when 925MHz was fine. Still testing with OCCT and Prime95.

Thanks for the help guys!

do you have access to any other timings?
which slots?
how hot does the ram feel? hopefull not too hot or....

OK, here's what I got so far.

CPU back down to 3.3GHz

Memory at 1062Mhz at 2.2v

Timings are: 5,5,5,15 2T

Advanced timings:

tRRD 5
tRC 31
tWR 6
tWTR 11
tREF 7.8uS

Got them in the BLACK slots.

Running stable so far, do these look ok for settings?

ya, I had the advanced timings set to Auto, thats what the problem was. I have them manual at:

tRRD: 5
tRC: 31
tWR: 6
tWTR: 11
tREF: 7.8uS

Running stable at 1062MHz at 2.2v, gonna stick with that, I'm happy. Considering the other promos wouldn't do 840MHz!!!

Thanks Eclipse, you do man...

fiddle around with it. i haven't played with a 680i yet, so i don't know what it likes. most likely, the ram will like having the trrd raised to ~7, and the trc to ~42.. but make sure that the performance from higher mhz you gain is more than the performance you lose from the timings ;)

I was about to buy

Corsair DDR2 1GB(512MBx2), 800MHz, TWIN2X1024A-6400C4, CL4(4-4-4-12),

but after reading a few posts on hardforum I think I will be going for

PQI DDR2 1GB(512x2) Dual TURBO PQI27200-1024DB, PC2-7200, 900MHz, CL4(4-4-4-12), 2.1V, aluminium radiator MBlack, retail PQI

Has anyone heard of these? Would these really work at 900 MHz with those timings?

edit: they are cheaper and supposedly faster... right? here are the specs on the producer's website

I have not heard that many great things from PQI. Thats not saying that your own experience will be in the same ballpark, but I would be a bit warry. Do a bit more searching on them in this and other forums before you decide to buy.

Good choice.

I have some crucial ballistix pc2 6400's on the way. I think they actually use the exact same chips in the pc2 8000 as the pc2 6400's, because the 6400's are being overclocked to pc 8800 speeds easily, and there's ony a $30 difference.

Nooo idea, I looked around for you, couldn't find a single review anywhere on the net. Either way just steer clear of those corsairs.

My personal recommendation for you is these:

great price, great overclockability, 100% micron goodness.

No, just look at the names, what you linked isn't the extreme edition.

Therefore most likely not D9.

For those of you keeping the discussion civil, thank you. Please make sure it stays that way.

We want you guys to have opinions and express them. We want you to share your personal experiences. You guys are what gives our forums value and I fully appreciate that. I also fully appreciate those of you that communicate in a civil manner and civil tone. Again, thanks.

hey Eclipse! been doing some more fiddling, and I got my rams stable at 1125MHz @ 2.25v

Timings are: 5,5,5,12 2T

tRRD: 6
tRC: 31
tWR: 6
tWTR: 11
tREF: 7.8uS

These microns kick some sweetness buttocks!

I just picked up some Teams 4 4 4 DDR2 800 and they suk. Nothing like what I'm used to from Micron. I think I'm going to try and contact Team see what they can do.

Man I really miss my Ballistix.

If you are there then you could really go much higher if you increase the V a bit. Make sure you have a fan on them if you do that though ;)

very nice motley! just out of curiosity, how many mhz do you drop when you switch to one of the following: 5-5-4, 5-4-4, 5-4-3, and 5-3-3 ;)

MC, shoot me a pm man. if you contact team to see what they can do, they'll most likely refer you to either me or 3oh6 :p

These are the ones OPB signed. Will do. Thanks.

I'd love to see how high those Ballistix go. I didn't have enough time to play around with my 500mhz sticks :( BTW stock V is 2.2 not 2.25 ;)

Motley,
What Ballistix did you buy?
I'm ready to buy and your results sound very good.

Thanks!

My mobo arrived today and the cpu/power supply should get here tomorrow, time to get the ram ordered.

I'm looking to overclock a P5n-e sli, E6300 what you guys think about the buffallo firestix ramlist says there micron D9 but review on newegg said there elpida.Ram recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I have them and they act like D9s. I can boot these things at 1200mhz @ 2.2v. No it wasn't completely stable, but I didn't need them to be that fast and didn't spend a long time tweaking it. I've been running them at 950mhz 4-3-3-9 @ 2.175v

for the $230 these cost, I feel like I've gotten away with something :)
