PS3 really wants to NOT sell units...

Its actually for EDY, a system widely used in Asia which allows for chip based scan transactions. These chips are embedded in all sorts of things, even cellphones.

Its just that the US is was behind on the times and technology, and we see this as a way for Sony to rip us off. You know those Mastercard, "scan and go" commercials? Thats what this is.

And in my opinion Sony's system of only charging you for what you buy, rather than have lingering "points" systems which don't represent currency, is a much better system.

Hey I've got an idea, why don't the 2 poster above me shut the hell up and read the article.

It says if it catches on in Japan they'll probably bring it here. Do you want to reinforce these companies that it is ok to charge us for everything, most likely leading to extra guns, levels, etc.

But I guess if you are dumb enough to buy the PS3 then you are dumb enough to buy this.

Maybe you two should find out what the hell you are talking about before you post your worthless drivel.

I'm the first to jump on Sony when they do something stupid, but I don't see a problem with this.

If you don't want the add-on, don't buy it.

It's that simple.

How is this different from paying for 360's downloadable extras?

I don't have a PS3, and quite frankly I won't be getting one any time soon, because of the price they want for one... But I don't see what the big deal is. Companies are already charging for downloadable content, and this is just another we to do it. I like the Live Marketplace, and I don't have a problem paying for certain content, but this gives you an option to only pay for what you want, at that time, which is nice.

I'm not sure I'd put a credit card type swiper on my videogame console though. But that's just me.

Timbowens STFU FTW!

Everyone does this including Wii and Xbox360...Its just a different way of doing it...

Haha, stop posting...your making yourself look retarded..

Give it a break, Microsoft charges for add on content and so does Sony. I hate micro transaction but they seem like they are here to stay. I also hate the stupid point system Microsoft and Nintendo have set up. Just tell me the real freaking price.

Either a troll thread (PS3 owners are too stupid as you stated...meaning you must own one...ZING!! kidding man)

or you don't like to think things through.

Xbox live does the same thing accept you give them yoru credit card (On file if you wish)
Wii the same thing. And no one says you would have to buy this.

Well in fairness the nintendo's version is dollar per point. So 10 dollars is 1000 points. I don't like xbox live's version of whatever that translates too.

This has got to be the most ignorant post I've seen in ages. It's like complaining that the battery life on the PS3 controllers is too long and should be kept in line with the 10 hour 360 ones.

This is no less convenient than storing your CC info w/ your Live account. It's actually more secure because your credit card info doesn't need to be stored anywhere on a company server. You don't need to worry about son/spouse/sibling/criminal logging on with your account and ordering stuff haphazardly - they actually need your card in hand to make a transaction.

My question is, do you have to pay for the thing that's used to suck money from your account? What's so hard about entering your CC number anyway?

I think for Xbox Live it works out to 80 MS points per 1 dollar.

Oh, these game consoles are selling themselves?

Yes, that's right, it's the Sony PS3, not the PS3 Sony.

wait, how is this such a big deal?

apart from having to pay for some add-on reader rather than just typing in your CC#, how does this change anything?

Different form of convience if you don't want to have yoru card on file

I think that maybe the OP just got caught up in the rant of the blogger, since he apparently is not a fan of this device, or perhaps Sony for that matter.

fuck that blogger, why are people always hating on things that they dont like...

lol?

Im still not sure how you were reading that blog, but i still dont see what the issue is here , or how it differs from how I can click 2 buttons my controller and charge 2000 xbox live points to my credit card.

I think the technology is cool and a great way to simplify getting content. As long as they can keep it as secure as they state the technology is...

However putting it into cell phones I think is just asking for it. So many people lose their phones, or have them stolen. I havnt lost mine, but if I did I wouldnt want my CC info on it.

I dont mind the point system, and I dont mind this system. Both accomplish the same thing, just a slightly different way to do it.

the anti-PS3 bandwagon is getting a little thin, it seems.
way to reach out there

Yeah, clearly having a bulk of points that you pre-purchased and having them sitting there doing nothing for you is much better than delaying payment until you actually need something. /sarcasm

That thing is kind of cool. I would probably get one if they were like $10 and i had a ps3.

Yes, thats right, now you can swipe you credit card right at your PS3!

Some will see this as convenient, most will hate it.

I want a PS3 pretty bad, but between Sony's business practices as of late, their stupid public statements, their high priced hardware, and their total arrogance I won't be buying one.

PS3 isn't overpriced, you forgot that it has a BLU-RAY!!!! the next cheapest blu ray player is around $800 and that can only watch movies. Well I guess its expensive to people who just want the system to play games and who don't have a 1080p monitor. I've got a ps3 also a 1080p res monitor and planning to buy several blu-ray movies so I think that its a fair price for the ps3.

How was it a troll? And how is it better than just having your cc stored like the 360 does?

Besides, that wasn't really my point.

Sony is cheap enough to try to promote things like not giving up full games. You know, still charging $60 a game, but then charging us extra for levels and what not.

And to the person who said the PS3 wasn't overpriced:

1. where do you get your drugs,

and

2. Most of the people around the world disagree, which is why the PS3 will not be as popular, not get as many exclusives, and ultimately fail. Have fun with your NeoGeo.....oops, I mean PS3

Man give it up. I think your intentions are obvious in this thread. Sony is evil, right?
And when have they charged for extra levels on the playstation store? If anything, that has already happened before on the 360.

And how is it better than just having your cc stored like the 360 does?

You could forget that your CC is stored on it, and have to return it to the store...or if the xbox crashes on you and you send it in for repairs and you can't access the HD and it still has your CC# on it....

Where does "SONY" do it...maybe some game developers in the future(I havent seen a game that has this yet...I havent looked at every single one though) and like I said "SONY" isnt making them do that... If your talking about GT:HD...then catch up on current events before you post.

1. where do you get your drugs

Walgreens FTW!

Most of the people around the world disagree, which is why the PS3 will not be as popular, not get as many exclusives, and ultimately fail. Have fun with your NeoGeo.....oops, I mean PS3

Disagree with what? That you are a troll looking for attention? No I think most people agree, at least 100% of the people in this thread. :D

$5 is *not* a microtransaction. It's a regular transaction.

Why don't you all STFU FTW?

This thread was facing downhill to start with...
