Hot/Warm Vizio 47" LCD 1080P $1649

I was looking at this but it is 80+ miles to my nearest Costco and the $165 shipping in addition to the tax pretty much kills it for me. Looks like it could be a nice TV.

Dude....Vizio's are awesome TV's. I have a 50" 720p HDTV Plasma and let me tell you, it is awesome. The picture quality is great! You will enjoy that TV for a long time!

Too bad that I am missing out on a good deal. :(

Distilled:

* The panel is manufactured by LG
* Some people are having some backlight bleeding issues (corners)
* Some people are suffering from a slight speaker hum due to EMI from backlight
* Some people are experiencing overscan issues, which could be remedied if connected via a computer input (Catalyst tweaking, et al).

However for the price I still think this is a fantastic deal, especially combined with Costco's unparalleled return policy.

I'll vouch for Vizio. I have a Vizio and it's by far the best out of all the other models that were availible, especially when you factor the price.

I had a 32" Vizio and loathed it's inability to differentiate between black and gray. Upgrading to a Sharp 37" Aquos for 30% more brought my shades back. :D

I'd really prefer something a touch bigger tho. And that's my dilemma. The difference between this and the Sharp 52" Aquos lies in the 100% range...and that's quite a bit more. So any impressions you guys can give would be great. Specifically if you've seen/owned a Sharp Aquos. :)

The Aquos is like a dream TV. Nothing else comes close to the image sharpness. I do like the large (DLP) Samsungs, and they're quite a bit cheaper than the Sharp. The Westinhouses tend to make most happy, and they have larger screens, but I haven't seen any larger than the 37" in person.

This is hot. 1080p is future proof.

I have a 37" vizio lcd (gx37l). No complains, good price. Definitely better pq than other lcds in the same price category (but of course, no match feature-wise to the big brands)

Eh, I wouldn't call it future proof, HDMI 1.3 is right around the corner, and SEDs are probably coming later this year as well. Don't know much about the quality of Vizios, but I suppose a 47 inch for that price is pretty good.

The panel may be 1080p, but is the processing? Some of the early 1080p LCD TV's couldn't process a 1080p input signal...

I heard this tv can't do 1080p on the vga port, so you can't do 1080p with the xbox 360 and hddvd player.

the westinghouse i think is like that too..

the vga port, at least from what the manual says, only supports 1280x1024..

i may be heading down to costco tomorrow to see if they have it locally..

I got mine Monday, so far I suppose it's pretty good for the price. The backlight bleeding issue most talk about goes away after a few days, mine has almost all dissapeared at this point. I would love it if it were a bit brighter, the shades at the dark level pretty much bleed together. The colors come out pretty true after tuning and my wife couldnt be happier. In short, it's very good at the majority of things, but lacks in a few key areas.

For the money buy it, if you can afford better then do it.

fyi, from what I've read, the only ports that support 1080P are the HDMI ports. so if you want to use it for your computer at full res you'll need a DVI-HDMI converter and xbox 360 owners, you're outta luck.

yea i really wish my local costco had it..

i went down and they just had a boat load of 1366x768 garbage..

I was looking at this too....

Its either this or the 42" westy for me. I did read this one can't 1080p on the vga (can it on component?) as where I read the westy CAN output 1080p on vga.

Can anyone confirm ?

I loved the sharp Aquos 46" I had for 3 days. Until the banding showed up. It HURT to take it back, but once I saw it, I couldn't NOT see it, and it pissed me off seeing it on a 2600.00 TV.

I returned it, and figured I'd get a 56" 1080P JVC LCoS projection to tide me over. But damn if silkscreen effect isn't readily apparent. But I'm the only one in my family to see it, and they're tired of the shuffle. I still have 2 weeks to return it.

Was a good deal too, only 1750.00 and 36 months free financing. 1080P just isn't quite ready for prime time yet for TV, IMO.

I also have the 37" 1080p vizio ... I love it to death. Works great with my wii at 480p (hd component) and my digital cable (hdmi not idea on the rez, I assume 1080p).

If I get an HD dvd player that can do 1080p I'll know for sure, but that wont be for a while now.

I'll be playing the 46D62U lottery here just as soon as Costco picks it up. Maybe I might risk a Vizio...

The 46D62U is a FANTASTIC TV/Monitor (yes, it accepts PC inputs with no overscan at 1920x1080) if you can get a non-banding one. I absolutely LOVED It for 3 days - until the banding showed up.

Do a Costco Return Shuffle until you get a good one. Or keep it until the new models come out, THEN return it for the later model.

Hahaha! I don't mind the return game, I did it 3x w/ the 37" I have now. (1st had a crack, 2nd turned off after 2 days and never turned back on)

I'm also considering a Sony and Samsung, both 46" 1080P. Some AVS Forumites discuss clouding w/ the Sony, but I didn't come across any real deal breakers on the Samsung. I've been in a holding pattern for about 2 months now because of those bastards. :p Some of those threads have 5,000+ replies!

Problem with the samsungs, from what I gather, is that for PC hookup, there's no way to turn off overscan. There's no dot-for-dot setting on the TV. Probably doesn't matter much for games, but would be trouble for any text work.
