Re: Staples Black Friday 200GB Maxtor Rebate

Mine just updated to validation complete. So hopefully the check will be here soon.

I wanted to follow-up the below post that I previously made. I sent a couple questions through their online support form, but didn't receive a reply. Then, I submitted the same question for the third time and told them that I would continue sending the question everyday until I receive an answer. The next day I received an email with from Rebate Support. Again, they said there was a problem with the system that caused all of the original submissions to be invalidated. They provided five new tracking numbers, one for each rebate form, and said that I would receive the rebate checks the first week of January.

Much to my surprise and relief, all five rebate checks arrived a couple days ago. I don't know if I would have received them had I not followed-up...so if you haven't received the rebate checks in the next couple weeks I would follow up if I were you.

On November 24th, I placed an order on Staples.com, which contained four items from the Staples Black Friday promotion. Two of these were for the 200 GB hard drive and the MAG 32" LCD. Each of these items has at least one corresponding Easy Rebate, which I also submitted on November 24th right after I placed the order.

A few days later, the Easy Rebate tracking site showed that all of my rebate submissions were invalid. I called Staples main Customer support and the Staples agent then called the Easy Rebate department to determine the problem. I was told that there was a problem with the rebate system and that I had indeed entered the correct rebate information. They said they would resubmit the rebates for me.

I was given a new rebate tracking number for their resubmission. Now, when I try to check the status of my rebates only one of the five rebates is showing up in the list.

So, as of right now, I have no documented proof that I have submitted the rebates. I found a phone number to call Easy Rebates directly and spoke to a rep. He informed me that I won't be able to see the status of any of the rebates until after the return period has expired. So I said, "Let me get this straight...all of my rebates have been submitted correctly, on the same day the purchase was made, and now you can't tell me the status of them until the product return period is over? He said, "That is correct. You won't see the status until January."

This hardly seems fair to me because as of this point I have no documented proof that they have any of my rebate submissions even in their system.

I sent the above information through their online question form two weeks ago and never received a reply. I hardly feel that this is good business practice and I want to know what else I can do to escalate the issue.

I am not saying that I want the rebates now, I just want to know that they at least have them in their system and that they WILL BE PROCESSED.

Well, like the lot of us, I just got validation complete for my lcd tv...so i hope i get that $150 check soon :D

Sucks you guys are having problems. I've gone through at least $500 of staples rebates and gotten each one back really fast (within 3-4 months) so I wouldn't fret too much. I think like 3 or 4 of mine had problems but they were corrected by themselves without me having to phone.

My rebates have been denied 3 out of 4 times. Everytime this happens I call the CSR for the rebate company. Every time they have honored my rebate. I should note that I followed all the rules for the rebate. Here is a link to a forum listing some of the numbers. http://www.fatwallet.com/t/54/58957/ I hope this helps. Post if you can reach some resolution.

Update - Mine says "Check has been printed/mailed."

I never had the "declined" status but I still thought it would faster than this one has been.

The last Staples rebate I had was completed in just under 4 weeks but that was from last years Presidents Day sale.

Mine says the same thing.... Hopefully I'll get it soon.... I could really use it about now :(.

Last time I bought a product at Staples with a MiR, I filled out all the proper rebate forms, photocopied everything required, included all that was supposed to be included and took every step short of video taping the process (something I now recommend doing in the future).

I received a little denial of rebate postcard in the mail after 8 weeks. It had been long enough I had to go look up what was being denied. Once I remembered what was sent in, I called Staples who passed me off to the Rebate Center (separate entity, NOT owned by Staples!).

After several days of haggling and speaking with 6 different people, it was determined that THEY made an input error when typing in my rebate. The Rebate person had typed in a 1 at the end of the bar code. I checked my bar code, and there WAS a 1 at the end, but its not part of the actual code.

So, after several days, they claim they will resubmit my rebates (two) and I will have to wait another 4-8 weeks for approval and delivery.

I wait another month, and finally I receive one check and one post card stating denial of the second.

In short, I won't be using MiR again. When shopping at Staples, I laugh at salespeople who talk about how easy it is to submit. I remind them how easy it is to get denied!

I feel your pain with the MIR. I've lost plenty of money on those damn things.

I used staples Easy Rebate deal on the black friday items (LCD Montior, LSC TV, WD hard drive and some USB drives. This process is the best I've seen. Easy to input data, all the info I needed I had on the receipts. Checking the status was never a hassle. I've made sure to print out a copy of the status each time I checked. Today I have the "Check has been printed/mailed" message. So far so good.

My two rebates are also now "Printed/Mailed". It'd be nice to receive them as a little Birthday present today. :D

[edit]
Anybody who filled out the rebates online get a rejection letter? Just curious as I've never been rejected by Staples(online).

This is why I dont fvck with rebates annnnnnnymore I got burned too many times........if I puchase something on the premise that you are going to send me x amount of money back after I fill out some tedious paperwork that you are going to scrutinize.........then dammit how about you just let me pay the price less the rebate cost and then I'll send you the amount in the mail :D

Ooh, happy day. I have a "Printed and Mailed" on my Samsung LCD and Maxtor HD rebate. My $25 DVD+R rebate is at "Verification Complete". My birthday is Monday, so this is some good timing.

I am done with Staples. Easy my ass, and they just finally sent my two small rebate checks ($10, $7) but not my $60. I wish these companies would do away with rebates, f'in ridiculous.

I got 3 of the 200gb drives and all thee are now at Printed/Mailed step. Hoping to see the checks (3x$50) within the next week.

As a side note, it would be fun to reverse the whole process. We could buy the items at the rebated price and force Staples to jump through the hoops to pry an extra $10 out of us. If they messed up anything we could deny them the cash on some technicality and ignore them when they started crying about it. I would almost pay the money to be able to put them on hold as long as they do us. Of course that is after the re-submit the documents about 3 times.

I think part of the reason these rebates are taking longer than normal is because normally, their return policy is 14 days. Thus after the return policy is passed, the rebate is processed. But for the holidays, I am told it is 14 days after Christmas. They probably waited until after the return period to process the rebates to avoid return issues (people getting rebate $ on a returned product.)

As far as denials go, I had one (not on this hard drive though) and returned with my receipts to the store. They took care of it and I recieved it shortly thereafter.

I was thinking this exact same thing the other day. If we did half of the BS these companies and rebate processors pull on us, we would be locked up in jail. Literally.
How they get away with it is beyond me.

I was wondering, how long did it take you to received your Maxtor rebates after their site said it was mailed? Mine says mailed, but I'm still waiting for it. And they have ignored every email I have sent.

Staples uses Parago to process their rebates. Parago has a patent on their scam tactics to make sure not everyone gets their rebates. Although I'm sure they are all the same way.

No more rebates and no more Staples. If I need something in the future I will just look for the best price. I have been messed with too many times by rebates.

I received a rebate yesterday.

I submitted four rebates and received the amount for one yesterday. It's not what I expected ... more like a postcard than a check.

I recieved all four of the rebates that I was waiting for. All submitted online, easy rebate. I have always gotten my rebates from staples.

$50 rebate for Hard drive
$7 rebate for Cruzer Micro
$7 rebate for Cruzer Micro
$3.50 rebate for something not sure what it was could be Dvd-r or Cd-rs.

I don't like to wait for rebates but those deals were to good to pass up. Now I am waiting for more rebates that I just sent in, not for staples but again deals to good to pass up.

Got my rebate for Samsung 205BW. $80 bucks.

Took too long, won't do this again. Sent in the same day of purchase on Black Friday(Nov. 24th.), received postcard check today! This thing is the thinnest paper ever and could very, very easily be lost in the mail(maybe even slide in between magazine pages) etc.

The whole sales point to "easy rebate(send it online)" wasn't how easy it was(according to the sales pitch that morning), but how quick it would be. They failed to be fast, I have "NEVER" had a rebate take so long even during the Holiday's. Goodbye Staples.

Never again. But, here ya go for a pic.

still waiting for my rebate to arrive in the amount of $50 for the maxtor hdd. Right now I really, really want to get one of those laser printers. I'm going to look out for rebates on those from staples.com in the future. My Canon PIXMA MP130 is draining too much ink from casual (at least i think) photocopying and printing. My old HP's used to run for months before needing a new tank. Same goes for my PIXMA IP3000.

I understand being upset if they promised it being fast, but are you kidding me? This took 2 months to get back. Most companies take longer then that. The average rebate process in my experience has been 3-6 months. Yes there are some quicker and some longer, but most are within the 3-6 month category. I wouldn't discredit them so easily because of this one folks. Seems like they made good on something they admitted was their error to begin with. (the whole system being screwed up an all) I would have expected after their system being messed up for it to take even longer.

Staples is often extremely fast with rebates AFTER the validation process is completed. Remember that since their return policy is 30 days they have to wait that long to see if you are going to return whatever item you purchased was. After that point they do the printing. They probably got slammed on Black Friday and thus had a large amount of checks necessary to print.

Don't let one bad experience with them sour you since Staples is usually one of the best when it comes to rebates.

Does anybody have a copy of the original ad? I am trying to find if it said that the limit was 2 for the power strips that were FAR on Black Friday.

Got my rebates today. Took a lot longer than Staples easy rebates normally take, but it's still faster than a lot of other rebates (onrebate, for example). 8 weeks is certainly acceptable though.

I received my rebate yesterday. Staples is usually one of the best with rebates.

:D

I'm still waiting on my rebate for my external Maxtor 60GB HD. The status page says the check has been mailed but I haven't gotten anything.

Still waiting for mine too. I called the rebate center and they said my check was printed on January 24th. He also said typical time from printing to actually receiving the check is 10-15 days. So still waiting. I was getting nervous I had thrown it away since they can easily be mistaken as junk mail.

Did you guys do the online easy rebate?

I did, I am still waiting on mine because I sold the drives for 60 a pop. Im gonna be pissed if I dont get my rebates.

bookmarking thread*

Anyone who does receive them post it. When I get home tonight Ill get my invoiceS out for anything they claim to be untrue if theres a way to contact them. I very rarely do MIR and the one time i did its gonna blow .... GRRR

I got my rebates over the last two days. First, I got the $3.50 (mine was for a surge protector). Then yesterday I got the $50 hard drive and the $7 cruzer one.

I always have a good experience with Staples Easy Rebates. I hope those of you with problems get them back soon. Like some have said before, maybe they just got swamped because of Black Friday.

Heh, then people wonder why I avoid rebates like the plauge. :D

Not sure what some of you guys were thinking.
Rebate process usually takes a minimum 2 months or more.

As long as I'm getting my rebates within 4-6 months then I'll be a happy customer.

Money is money, as long as you're getting the right amount, then it is okay for me.

Its like an investment of arbitrary time with the hope that that arbitrary time is less than infinity. I really screwed myself by selling the drives $5 over cost and I havent gotten rebates yet. I thought I paid less for them. :s

According to the rebate rep, my checks were printed on Jan 24th and I got my $150 today. Along with some $160 in Canon rebates, I'm off to the FS/FT Thread to blow it all.....
