Don't buy a 200GB Maxtor anyway...eww
On November 24th, I placed an order on Staples.com, which contained four items from the Staples Black Friday promotion. Two of these were for the 200 GB hard drive and the MAG 32" LCD. Each of these items has at least one corresponding Easy Rebate, which I also submitted on November 24th right after I placed the order.
A few days later, the Easy Rebate tracking site showed that all of my rebate submissions were invalid. I called Staples main Customer support and the Staples agent then called the Easy Rebate department to determine the problem. I was told that there was a problem with the rebate system and that I had indeed entered the correct rebate information. They said they would resubmit the rebates for me.
I was given a new rebate tracking number for their resubmission. Now, when I try to check the status of my rebates only one of the five rebates is showing up in the list.
So, as of right now, I have no documented proof that I have submitted the rebates. I found a phone number to call Easy Rebates directly and spoke to a rep. He informed me that I won't be able to see the status of any of the rebates until after the return period has expired. So I said, "Let me get this straight...all of my rebates have been submitted correctly, on the same day the purchase was made, and now you can't tell me the status of them until the product return period is over? He said, "That is correct. You won't see the status until January."
This hardly seems fair to me because as of this point I have no documented proof that they have any of my rebate submissions even in their system.
I sent the above information through their online question form two weeks ago and never received a reply. I hardly feel that this is good business practice and I want to know what else I can do to escalate the issue.
I am not saying that I want the rebates now, I just want to know that they at least have them in their system and that they WILL BE PROCESSED.
Mine just updated to validation complete. So hopefully the check will be here soon.
...Here is a link to a forum listing some of the numbers. http://www.fatwallet.com/t/54/58957/ I hope this helps.
Update - Mine says "Check has been printed/mailed."
I never had the "declined" status but I still thought it would faster than this one has been.
The last Staples rebate I had was completed in just under 4 weeks but that was from last years Presidents Day sale.
I feel your pain with the MIR. I've lost plenty of money on those damn things. In short, I won't be using MiR again. When shopping at Staples, I laugh at salespeople who talk about how easy it is to submit. I remind them how easy it is to get denied!
I was thinking this exact same thing the other day. If we did half of the BS these companies and rebate processors pull on us, we would be locked up in jail. Literally.I got 3 of the 200gb drives and all thee are now at Printed/Mailed step. Hoping to see the checks (3x$50) within the next week.
As a side note, it would be fun to reverse the whole process. We could buy the items at the rebated price and force Staples to jump through the hoops to pry an extra $10 out of us. If they messed up anything we could deny them the cash on some technicality and ignore them when they started crying about it. I would almost pay the money to be able to put them on hold as long as they do us. Of course that is after the re-submit the documents about 3 times.
Got my rebate for Samsung 205BW. $80 bucks.
Took too long, won't do this again. Sent in the same day of purchase on Black Friday(Nov. 24th.), received postcard check today! This thing is the thinnest paper ever and could very, very easily be lost in the mail(maybe even slide in between magazine pages) etc.
The whole sales point to "easy rebate(send it online)" wasn't how easy it was(according to the sales pitch that morning), but how quick it would be. They failed to be fast, I have "NEVER" had a rebate take so long even during the Holiday's. Goodbye Staples.
Never again. But, here ya go for a pic.
Did you guys do the online easy rebate?
I recieved all four of the rebates that I was waiting for. All submitted online, easy rebate. I have always gotten my rebates from staples.
$50 rebate for Hard drive
$7 rebate for Cruzer Micro
$7 rebate for Cruzer Micro
$3.50 rebate for something not sure what it was could be Dvd-r or Cd-rs.
Not sure what some of you guys were thinking.
Rebate process usually takes a minimum 2 months or more.
As long as I'm getting my rebates within 4-6 months then I'll be a happy customer.
Money is money, as long as you're getting the right amount, then it is okay for me.
