I am looking to play some madden and fifa and other games. I want to get a gamepad for my pc like the ones for consoles. What do you guys rec? Something nice. I don't mind price. thanks.

Wired Xbox 360 controller or wireless with the usb receiver thing (when it comes out.)

of course it will.....its Games for Windows officical gamepad..all games must work withe xbox 360 controller....

Yep, the 360 pad is definitely what you want. Any game marked Games for Windows is certified to work with it (along with many other requirements), and even games that don't have that should work fine. I've yet to find a game that won't work with it. Also, you can use the XBCD drivers, which give you more options for remapping buttons and such.

I'm more used to the PS2 style so I use a Logitech I got at Best Buy, and you can get a rumble version of it too. It's USB.

But a lot of people swear by the XBox type.

I guess this is kind of off-topic, but Company of Heroes is a Games For Windows title, and I can't imagine how it would work with a gamepad. Has anyone tried it?

My vote goes for either the 360 controller, or the Logitech Cordless rumblepad II. I would choose the 360 controller if the wireless was out, if not the logitech. Can't stand wires.

The 360 controller is hands down the best game pad for the PC I've ever used. The only worthy runner-up I can think of right offhand would be the Logitech dual Rumblepad series of controllers.

I have a black Madcatz 350 Controller, I love it, best thing send I used my old Xbox Controller with a USB adapter I made. And i also have a Logitech PS2 clone. Before that I had the Gravis Xtreme Gamepad, it was awsome with flight sims and before that the good old Gravis game pad.

What ever happened with Gravis, they still around?

I have a PS2->USB adapter and use my PS2 controllers. Auto detects fine and is fairly comfortable.

Never felt a controller more comfy with a natural feel more than the N64 controller.

Of course I dont know if you can get a PC version :/

I'd like to know how the ps2 controller feels using the USB converter.

just wondering how playing tekken 3 or 4 in emulators would be like with the real PS2 controllers. Does it react the same? what are the differences?!
anyone tried this yet?

what converter should I get, im looking for one that has support for the vibrations.

I grabbed a few different ones in my quest, the one in particular I liked is some obscur model specifically advertised to work with DDR pads from LikSang, although I think you can still find one on PlayAsia.com. The one I keep hooked up to my PC is a chinese model one from some Asian mall near me. I play using emulators a lot like Street Fighter III, Alpha 3, Marvel vs Capcom and found it works fine for it. I haven't tried vibration although it said it'd work with it.

The last set I have is from Radio Shack, a nextel set but unlike the previous two only work for one controller each and do not work with DDR pads. Other than that, all three types work great with my various PS2 controllers (DualShock, Street Fighter Anniversary controllers etc). I hooked them all up and played 8 player Atomic Bomberman a few times using them, worked great!

I use a logitech Rumble pad 2 wireless, It works great for me. I couldnt stand the Xbox controller . thats why I didnt go for the Xbox 360 controller instead of this one.

I also do have a Saitek p880 laying around for a spare.

Well I bought a MadCatz Xbox 360 compatible controller. It's small and black. The thing that sucks is in Madden07 you can't edit anything for the controller. I think I am going to take it back and get the regular XBox 360 one. It's only 10$ more. Another thing that's odd in Madden07 is that it only seems to support a gravis gamepad. I don't know if that will change once I get the 360 one. Hope so.

You can.

You have to buy a N64 -> USB converter that comes with drivers, and I have only seen them on ebay.

They have those thingeys for every type of paddle, i.e. SNES, genesis, N64, PS, etc...

I have a very old Microsoft paddle without joysticks that I use bcuz it is comfy, but I also have a Saitek that works fine, I just hate the joysticks. (the motion area is squared instead of circular)

XBOX 360 Controller for Windows FTW!

XBOX 360 > Logitech Rublepad (Wired or Wireless) > Everything else. :)

Well I returned the Mad Catz controller and paid the extra 10 bucks for official XBox 360 controller. Now everything works in Maden. Thanks guys!

Saitek P2500 rumble...almost like a Sony dualshock but more comfortable imo (and cheap!). I imagine the 360 pad would be killer also but I only have the wireless one...I hear there is a pc adapter for that now though.

Using the third party XBCD drivers, yes. These drivers are far superior to the MS ones anyway.

I wonder why it doesn't work with the default drivers. I tried the controller in Vista when I first purchased it and found that rumble effects only worked in Splinter Cell Double Agent and one other that I can't remember the name of. I don't get any effects using XP so I'll try the XBCD drivers. I didn't think to look for the Redcl0ud drivers because MS provided them already. I used to use those drivers for my hacked XBOX controller.

If you use the M$ drivers the rumble effects only work for games that use the XInput libraries for force feedback effects (rumble). There are only a few pre-existing games that do.

The third party XBCD drivers get around this and allow force feedback in almost every title out there (that uses FF anyway).

Reasons? Well speculatively I'd say that M$ isn't worried about backwards compatability because they are pushing Vista and the new "Games for Windows" program under which new titles will need to use XInput anyway. That's my 'edumacated' guess anyway. :)

The modded XBCD drivers work great anyway. :)

Do you guys think Madden 07 has force feedback if I used the modded xbcd drivers? Should I bother? Any of you guys out there play Madden07?

I hear the Xbox 360 D pad sucks. Is this true? I'd like to play some old emulated fighting games and need a good D pad.

Yeah, it pretty much does suck. It's more like a floating disc than an actual directional pad...kinda inaccurate at times.

original nes + snes controllers converted to usb

On the eighth day, there was SNES. Amen. :D

And apparently Dell and Saitek as well ;)
I'll believe the Dell part, I love my Dell monitor. :)

On a related note does anyone have any idea when the 360 wireless receiver is suppose to come out? The wait for it is starting to get to me. :(

Can someone give me a laymens walkthrough on the xbcd drivers? I installed them and can't seem to get them to see my controller. Can someone help?
