So I get a new cpu, an Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800. I get all excited when it gets here today as I go to open it. I read the stats on all over the box just because and go to look at the cpu in the little window before I open it. Thats when I notice it.

Ohhh, look at the nice, pretty, expensive box!

Ahhh, WTF!!!!!!

Where did you buy that? You got fuckin' ripped man! Send those pics to the retailer and start talkin about a lawsuit. Bet you can get a full refund, and get to keep that CPU.

X6800 is too expensive anyways. Get your money back, keep the chip (and OC of course) and buy a Q6700 later.

Well thats certainly unusual. I hope you're able to quickly get a replacement from wherever you bought it from.

LMAO that's one expensive e6300

@belmicah: your overreacting it was a mistake on Intels part not the retailer

contact the vendor immediately, the sooner the better, obviously do not install. Be nice for this error to happen in reverse :)

Ohh, it gets better. It was a drop ship from Ingram Micro purchased through CompUSA Business. I'm pretty pissed off about it but I'm sure it will be handled.

Yep, I didn't open the box and have already contacted my rep at CompUSA. I can look at it and see where they got into the box. Looks like they peeled the "Facroty Sealed" sticker back and then cut the flap on the side open very carefully so it wouldn't break any of the perforated sections. Then they glued both back down. The paper has that odd look to it like when you glue paper and it eats some of it away.

nice.

reminds me of the fools who used to buy dvd burners at bust buy, and swap them with 4x cd burners and return them.

and the best thing is, chump usa or bust buy takes the loss. they can't trace that shit

damn, good luck with that. I was going to say bravo for checking it out before opening it up since it would have given you the unquestioned ability to return. But even that aside, you said it's not intels fault as it was tampered. Hope they don't give you too much trouble and say you did it

Yea thats the main problem, they will try to say you did it since it was a tamper, and its harder to prove it was the company than yourself. Thats one crooked deal, wonder if it was one of the shippers who wanted a free upgrade

what happens if they claim you are trying to trick them?

then you gotta yell loud and get people to notice. That's what happened with some I think sony camera someone bought from best buy. No doubt someone else bought it, put whatever in there, returned and said it was fine. A ton of times when I returned stuff to best buy, they never even open it to look inside. The story was on [H] a few weeks ago. Only, in that event, word spread up to sony or whoever the manufacturer was and they sent a new one. Surely that case looked like it was best buy's fault for accepting a return when they shouldn't have.

Ok, an update.

An X6800 is on it's way to me. It was sent out overnight so should be here tomorrow. The box that I got is on it's way back to Ingram Micro.

TheBuzzer: No worry, this was a Enterprise purchase through CompUSA Business on a Purchase Order.

Arcygenical: Won't have to do that. My rep at CompUSA is very nice and we've spent a ton of money there so no need for them to worry about $1,000 when in the past year we've probably spent $500,000+. He didn't worry when I told him about it and took care of it quickly.

Ingram Micro should be the one to worry. They have somebody in their warehouse doing this. Besides myself and Intel, they're the only one to have touched it. The shipping box was sealed and there was no sign of it being tampered with unlike the cpu box.

ok good to hear you got it strighten out. kind of crazy someone did the swap trick on such expensive items. still isn't it cheaper if you got the item from like newegg? places like bestbuy tend to up their prices.

corporate order, chances are he got it cheaper than retail, trust me I work in retail as well CompuSmart where we had a corporate division (and now I am getting laid off and store closed, what fun :( ) point remains thou corporate customers usually get good deals.

true. that and it's much less of a hassle in this situation. It would have probably been way harder to convince them of the mishap if it was an end user

Yea, I didn't get it much cheaper, its was about the average current going price from newegg and such. But, I get better support. On this, I really didn't have to worry about anything. I just called up my rep, told him that the chip in the box wasn't the right chip and he took care of it. I didn't have to even worry about them thinking I was lying and make them believe me. On something this cheap, it's no big deal not that I had a reason to do this.

It just pissed me off getting the box and having to wait now becuase of some jackass. I hope they can track it back to the person that did it. It's only been in a very few tightly controlled places.

Yikes that sucks.. Glad you have ur correct cpu on its way.. Great choice BTW :D
