I just want to know which would you use.

Please do you think about the prices of the software. I know AVG has a free verison, and there is only a $$ verison of Nod32

Please just let me know which you would rather have if money was not a issue here.

I recently had to work on a computer fopr a friend who was experiencing malware related problems....he was running the latest version of AVG. I disabled AVG and installed the 30 day trial of NOD32, ran it and it picked up the troublemakers on the first pass and removed them. NOD32 updates itself several times a day and will catch about 99.9% of anything out in the wild. It's expensive as AV products go, but well worth the cost in my opinion.

AntiV - free and got better rankings then NOD32 in many reviews, cant recall them, one locally done by a memer on ocforums and NOD32 wasnt even top 10.

I'd like to see those results because from the tests I've seen, have been quite the opposite. Nod32 wins in every category with Kapersky in a close second and AVG is at the bottom.

NOD32 comes in 10th

I just feel like NOD32 gets all this praise when it isnt the best and people just like the cool sounding name "nod32", wont deny it, is not the worst virus software, but it is not the best either but gets touted like it is and i think many people just install it cause oje blow said so with out actually looking into any tests done.

Sure, many people can say i never got a virus using X software, but that is all questionable.

I never got a virus using Norton Antivirus for 3 years, then tried Symantec for work, again none, didnt get any viruses using Kaspersky and it was on 5 office computers, none either, i have also never gotten a virus when not using any AntiV on my computer......

people bash norton and symantec when they have likely never used it, or had a bad experience likely based on their bad computer habits.

There is a NOD32 or Kaspersky thread here

The one thing that led me to NOD32 was the fact that it did, on my own machine, pick up things that neither AVG or AntiVir did. I'm not saying that either AVG or AntiVir are bad, I ran AVG for years, it just missed some things that NOD32 didn't.

i have been using AVG for several years now, and i can say that the new version is a lot better than the old version... of the free edition of course. The old version would get stuck with an update that required a restart, and would restart and would never finish updating so your anti-virus would never be up to date. But the new version has not had that happen yet, and i think they fixed the bug.

I use to use Nortion religously and actually loved it, but it got way to expensive for me, so i switched to AVG free edition, and it takes up a lot less resources than norton.

One thing that I have found about these "tests" is that you will get a different result just about every time you read a different test results synopsis. They are useless when trying to say one AV software is better than another. It's just silly.

I personally started out on esafe antivirus which was preinstalled on the first PC I ever bought. It was horrible software. Another horrible example of AV software IMO is Mcafee. Just about every person's PC I have had to work on over the years for some reason has Mcafee installed. Resouce hogging software. Next, I used Symantec with good results and stayed with them for several years. Then on the old amdmb.com forums someone mentioned some college folks creating a new antivirus engine that was top notch called NOD32. I tried it, like the interface (although not as nice as the one today) and the small footprint and have stayed with them since. I even recommended NOD32 where I work and now have about 150 PCs and servers using NOD32 along with the NOD32 Server to keep track of what is going on with the network. Top notch software IMO.

My suggestion, make your own assumptions about software. Try different ones out and stick with what works well for you. It's OK to read the test results from sites but remember some of the folks doing the test may have an agenda and no one should make their decision solely based on a test result from someone you don't know.

For the price, AVG is of course the best choice....free is always good. I've used or tried out all of the major brands after I had enough of Norton and my favorite was and has been since NOD32. I checked it against all of the others and in most cases, it came up with something that was missed by the previous AV app. As part of this job, I check out practically every link I come across and I have to have a good AV client, NOD32/64 is still my AV of choice.

I've been a NOD32 user for a couple years now and I really like it. It does it's own thing nicely and I haven't been infected yet. In the second year of use for Nod32, the prices go down, and are even better if you buy a couple of licenses.

I loved NOD32 when I had a pc, now I have a mac and don't worry about it anymore.

I've used Norton - Sucking the system not finding all bad stuff!
I've used McAfee - The interface is realy terrible.

Use Nod32 now :)

Like to try Karpersky heard some good things about it.

Your dead on actually, i went to dig deeper into some tests, and sure enough, i found some sites showing NOD32 as number one, some not showing it at all and others tied.. so really does seem like there is alot of bias! (by the way i am using NOD32 currntly on my main work laptop, figured i would try it out, but i also havent had a virus in 10 years)

I would still worry about viruses. Mac attacks have increased over the last several years.

The issue with MAC's is they may not get infected but they can pass the virus on to other PC's.

MAC virus will increase as their popularity is, and if you find some reports, i think in 2006 OS X had about 30 exploits in the OS X, but very few made it out to public to be critizied like MS does in windows.

I don't trust an anti-virus program that finding alot of virus which others didn't detect. A high detection rate would also mean alot of false alarm.

I was on the same situation where AVG cleaned what Nod32 missed ;)
