Hey if you don't mind me asking, what program did you generate this with?

You hit the right spot :) It's indeed Visio 2003. I used the 60-days trial version available on MS site.

sweet thanks! ...*downloading*

but i dont think my network will be nearly as intricate as that setup, i do have a killer audio setup i can display:D

...inspiration to take some pics of server room and home office.

For those of you with some of these smaller racks, where did you get them and what's the price like?

I'd love to rackmount at home, but everything is out of my price range.

Consists of a SpeedStream DSL Modem, to a Linksys WRT54G v3 running Tomato. Connects to a Netgear GS716T 16-port Gigabit Mangaged Switch (In Borat voice: Gigabit is very nice).

Hoping to get a relay rack and a shelf for the modem and router so I can rack that up + the TV stuff and a power conditioner.

Well it looks like you're off to a great start! You spent the money on the important stuff: namely the gigabit switch! Nothing is nicer!! Keep an eye on eBay for local sellers near you that have racks that are too heavy to ship. I've gotten quite a few rack cabinets for next to nothing that way (so long as you can find a friend with a pickup truck).

I wasn't expecting any comments so fast - but thanks.

I got the Gigabit switch because I was tired of running through my 5-port Linksys 10/100 and then over to the other side of the basement (where that stuff is) into the WRT54G and then into my server. It's a nice switch, but it took me about 2 hours just to setup the switch, re-cable all of that (I figured if I'm gonna unplug it all, might as well spend the 15 minutes to make it look nice), and make a new cable to run over to the other side of the basement, though I also watched a bit of TV while I was doing that.

The most cost effective solution I've found for that is flight cases.
I'll post a pic of my config when I get home.
Consists of:
Nokia ip330 (Currently inactive. Installing MonoWall)
Netgear wg302 Access Point
24 Port Patch Panel
DLink 16 port 10/100 Switch
Westell 6100 DSL Modem
1U PDU

Some Server Pics... not realy network... but there are two ethernet interfaces !!!

I bought a used Compaq DL380 G2

The server had no iLO Board (CPQ/HP Remote management card) when i bought it...
Well... i bought one :D

The nice thing about real Servers is the fact that you can take them apart to install new hardware (PCI cage removed)

More pictures soon :)

Have Fun

How much did this stuff run you? I love Proliant hardware BTW. Here's my collection...

Uhhh... some nice Compaq Stuff :) I have also got a DL380 G1. The drive-cage on the right of you image is realy nice !
Sorry for my question, but my english is not very good  ... what does "How much did this stuff run you?" mean ?

I love the Proliant Hardware, too. Its designed realy smooth and everything is built with the technician in mind...
That iLO Card is just great. You can restart and administrate the server from anywhere in the world (Webinterface with VNC like console and a virtual power switch)

Some more images...

Pictures are kinda big, so here:

Top
Bottom

My router... The Compaq Deskpro is my Endian Router, 1GHz PIII with 512MB RAM and two PRO/100 Dual Port server NICs, the white device on top of it is my Cisco Aironet 1131AG Access Point. The servers:

The IBM xSeries 345: Dual 2.66GHz P4 Xeons, 4GB RAM, 6x U320 36GB Fujitsu drives in JBOD for now. My virtualization server; install(ing) ESX for testing at work. It'll temporarily replace all of the servers here. :)

The black 3U: 2.8GHz P4, some MSI desktop board with 2GB memory. A 40GB boot drive and four 320GB drives in a RAID-5 thanks to an Adaptec 2400 card. Secondary Domain Controller, Primary DNS server, backup DHCP server.

The HP NetServer LP2000r (Light Gray 2U): Dual 1.4Ghz PIII, 2GB RAM, 6x 36GB HP drives; 2 in a RAID 1, the other 4 in a RAID-5. My Exchange and BES Server.

The HP Netserver LC2000r (Light Gray 5U): 800MHz PIII, 1GB RAM, 6x 18GB drives; 2 in a RAID 1, the other 4 in a RAID-5. LTO-1 drive does backup of my data from my file server; Gigabit backchannel :). My Primary Domain Controller, Secondary DNS server, DHCP server. Basically, my main network server.

The two PCs there at the bottom are (were) just folders. In the best interest of my electric bill and heat management, I've stopped folding. :( One's a dual-core 2.66GHz and the other's a 2.8GHz P4, if anyone's interested in buying!

My networking gear just includes the Endian router (Will using that just for a firewall and use the Cisco 2611 as a router) and a Cisco Catalyst 2950T-24 switch. Not pictured: 2x 2501 routers and a 1924 switch that I used for my CCNA. Pardon the mess, I'm moving soon so I'm getting ready to break up the rack to move (My cabling is MUCH better than that)

nice blitz! Ive been waiting for you to post some damn pics ever since you said our networks look alike:p

Wouldn't you agree that our setups are very much alike? :) I don't have a VPN connection off-site, but I've been meaning to start one up and plop a server elsewhere!

yep, my setup has changed since I posted last. Plus my off-site(work) VPN will be changing very soon since I resigned and am about to start a new position elsewhere.

ugh.... laziness wins again @ posting pics. :p

EDIT: okay, i gave in and took some pics... Ill post one here, but check out my thread in the root for the rest..

That's amazing -- exactly what I had planned. :) I had gotten a relay rack from work a few weeks ago; I'm just waiting until I move in my new place to utilize it.

Not a poblem. It means "how much did it cost you?"
Ahh.. ok... :D i wasn't shure...
The server (used) was about 485$ I got a spare powersupply with it. Normaly DL380 G2 Servers have a CD-Rom installed. Mine has got a DVD/CD-R :)

Wow.. That looks nice !
I'm planing something similar at the moment. The new Server will be part of my lab. I just need a way to mount it into my IBM rack... How did you do this with your Servers ? Sliding rails or smething ?

Thanks for all the great compliments guys.

Replus: yes, they are all racked using standard rail kits. If you look at my other post in here you can see a rear shot of the rails and all of the rails laying out. It was funny though, when i ordered them the owner of the company(so he said) called me up and asked if I was sure that I ordered the right items, I think it was 6 rail kits being delivered to a residence. He said he never had anything like this before:p :D

Thanks for the info. Maybe you should show a picture of your setup to the salesman. I believe that many companies out there dont even have half of your equipment :D

heh, maybe. You got any updates yourself ?

I also dug up the site that i ordered the rails from incase anyone was interested
http://www.buildtoorderservers.com/ProductCart/pc/viewCat_P.asp?idCategory=79

No update from my side at the moment. I was busy redoing my website today :)
Thanks for the link. I think i have to create some rails by myself for my Compaq-Server to IBM rack conversion... Or i could get a CPQ rack... But then my IBM Netfinity wouldnt fit anymore... :(

Yeah welcome to my world. My IBM x345 won't fit on my HP Netserver rack on normal rails. So I just plop it on a high-quality shelf and it works for now... But I lose 1U. heh

Maybe we could change Racks :D
I will talk to a mechanician this week. Hopfuly we will find a way to create some adapters or another solution to use the existing rails. Otherwise i will use some standart rails. Would it be possible to post a picture of your solution ?

Now for some new stuff... School was absolutly boring today so i decided to create some more visio shapes :)

cisco_equipment.jpg

The two routers in the third row are new.

nice...do share how you make those :)

First I tried to create the spahes in Adobe Illustrator and export them to Visio. That didn't work very well.
Now i use Visio to draw them. It is a little bit complicated due to the few tools which are included in Visio. But you get used to it after a while

This is a closeup picture of the larger Cisco Router...

Hrhr... i got some spare room beside my Rack :D
But you would have to come over to Switzerland -> cheese, mountains, snow, chocolate, watches and of course banks (with tons of gold stored inside the mountains!!!)

Hehe... not all people live like that. But there are a lot...
On the down side, everything is quiet expensive over here :(

I had a guess it could be a elaborate home setup (at first), but the telephone system gave it away, assuming work? Nice setup anyhow, work on the patch cables (though they do look labeled)!

Nice Pics by the way...

yes, it a business network. The cabling is a nightmare as it then all goes through and under the floor.
