Just got a bunch of new parts in and wanted to see how far i can crank out my A64 3000+
The problem is that the damn thing is crashing on windows boot well before i think it should

Theres plenty of screen shots of people doing 250+FSB on their ram and 2.8-3ghz on their 3000+ with air

Im crashing out around 2.3ghz at 1.5volts and 205fsb on the ram,
Ram is Buffalotech PC3200, couple years old, winbond chips

could timings be the problem? i admit im pretty new at this and have no idea about ram timings
From the bios:
CAS 2.5
TRAS 7T
TRCD 3T
TRP 4T
TRC 7T
TRFC 20T

oh, the board is an Asus A8N-E
temps after an hour of prime at 2.3ghz is only 35C...

anyone have any advice?

How early does it crash? If it crashes just before the windows login screens you may need to play with your memory voltage a bit.

its random
it crashes after loading screen, or it will crash before the loading screen even appears

ive lowered it down to 2.2ghz and its starting to crash in game, hmmm

edit: can't read fully.

try adding a small bump of volts to the ram, if not, set it even lower with a higher divider and see if it's stable then

i have the amd 3700 sandy and the asus a8n-e mobo .
heres my overclock .
memclock index value 333 mhz
cpu configuration 4x
cpu muliplier 11,
cpu frequency 254,
2.8 gig .
i did have to up my v core to 1.47 once i went past 250 .
she posted to windows , but locked .
try upping your votls a bit at a time .
hope that helps .
good luck .
cheers .

heres a link that helped me alot . they deal with strictly asus an8 mobos . hope that helps .

Thanks for the help guys, i realized i didnt put my HTT multiplier down so it was running around 1200, too fast!

i can get it to boot into windows at 2.5ghz now, running prime for an hour and it seems to be stable thus far. However, my temps at load are only 41C, so theres still a little bit of room left. Is there anything i can do to increase stable speed if my temps are still on the low side?

thanks guys!

the calculator posted above is a great tool .
check your pm .
if you can , let me know the socket you are useing .
cheers .

socket 939, i used the same forumula as that program

running 283x8.5 for ~2.5ghz and 1182HTT

i was told that amd is not fussy about half multipliers .
that may be wrong though .
why not change the multiplier to 10 or 11 . ?
how far do you want to go?
do yopu think it would be stable at 2.7?
your temps seem fine so far .
cheers .

this might be a more stable way to get to 2.5 .
im new , anyone can correct this if it is wrong .
cheers .

multi only goes to 9 :) i figured i could get closer using a smaller multiplier
