So~! Our story begins with a 19 kid who wants a big ass TV, he buys a 1080p westinghouse from best buy for 1699, a bargain at the time. He takes it home and its dead, after a quick drive back the TV is replaced with a new westing house 37in. Seven months down the road the screen stops turning on and the kid cries ;x

So after some time passes best buy determines it can't be repaired and replacement is necessary. After 2 months of use on the new screen a large darkened spot on the screen became more visible and best buy once again announced they could not repair and a replacement is in order. So today i take back the screen and get a sharp aquos for super cheap, 1850 out the door (minus the 1699.99 credit for the old screen) bucks and the stands missing from out of the box, best buy cant get a replacement stand.

Now i have a 1850 dollar bestbuy card and a 150 dollar best buy card. no screen/monitor/tv.

What shall i do (i want a large 1080p screen) I can get whatever screen i want, DLP LCD etc. i have to pay the difference but so be it.

So i use it for playing games mostly, PC/PS3/XBOX 360(someday),Wii. watching movies (blu-ray/hd-dvd) and high res encodes via PC as well.

I saw a DLP and i liked the blacks but not the viewing angles. I like the slim of LCD but thats not a must, looking for suggestions i'm looking to spend at most 2100 bucks (but if i must i'll spend more)

I was looking at a samsung dlp 1080p, maybe a different model/brand has better viewing angles
i could just get the same screen and pay extra (the killer deal is gone) or best scenario a -very- friendly hard forum member with a mounted sharp with an extra stand laying around wants to just um send it my way >.>

Looking for suggestions thanks.

Get a sony 46 incher from crutchfield for 2500, I hear they are almost impossible to break evn if you try. Plus, its a sony.

Westingcrap. This is why I tell people to avoid that shit like its the plague. Unless you get a *really* large screen 1080p is meaningless at normal viewing distances.

how hard is it to self build a stand that holds less than 30kg/66 pounds of weight...???

Umm, Make sure it has DLP :p
Not really up to date on new Tv's though i like my 30" Dell :D

Mount that SOB on the wall like it is supposed to be son!! I am a high end A/V tech and never install one on a stand. 75 dollar wall mount, get a tilting mount, a box of 1/4" toggle bolts, 5/8" drill bit, drill and 15 minutes done. 4 Toggle bolts will hold anything under 50". My 60" LG is on the wall with 6 toggles. yes even in drywall. I have hung over a thousand plasmas/lcds this way for 800 bucks a pop!!:D :D

i want it to look nice ;x

i've considered building a stand or buying a wallmount, but i've got the ability to get a 2000 dollar best buy gift card so switching screens is an option

Why don't you simply sell your Best Buy cards? You'll take a very minimal loss on them and you can get any monitor for much cheaper elsewhere. You'll be much farther ahead.

What model were the westinghouse TV's? 37w2 or 37w3?

Make sure you don't see the rainbow effect when you buy a DLP. Moving objects will have a rainbow outline. Some people have faster eyes and can't get a DLP because of this. I am one of them :( .

to the OP , If that TV is supposed to have a stand Sharp will send you one for free. Also a flat panel really looks smooth on the wall. PM me if you have any questions.

Thats the biggest thing I hate about my brothers DLP. I watch alot of anime and all the whites and flesh tones have like a rainbow sparkle to them. pretty anoying

Never noticed this on my Toshiba 52HM95. Nobody that has watched it has noticed it.

If it was my money, I would get a 50"+ 1080p DLP or ILA. The 50" samsung is a nice monitor, and trust me, the viewing angles are not bad on DLPs. If you are going to watch tv anyways, you should be in front of the thing. Why watch from the side?

i was looking at the 56in samsung 1080p and it was pretty bad for viewing angels, and i see what people mean by the sparkles from bright objects, like shiny hair is pretty bad.

...yes even in drywall...
I live in a slightly older apt. I'm looking at the 46/52 D62's from Sharp. They both weigh in around 80-90lbs (i think). I'm worried it'll fall...

DLP's - a friend just picked up the 65" Mitsu that CNET likes so much. I loathe the dissappearing bottom when standing up, Wii's impossible. The viewing angle's atrocious and my eyes tire from the wheel/flicker.

get a plasma. burn-in is now a myth. The only drawback is the heat and electricity consumption. better contrast, better viewing angle.

I see:

1024 x 768 pixel resolution
1024 x 1024 pixel resolution
1365 x 768 pixel resolution

Forgive my ignorance, but how does 1080p work?

1080p = 1920x1080

only higher end plasma have 1080p. and they cost $5k+

plasma is good for wii with its awesome viewing angles. lcd, dlp fade out at certain angles.

Yeah, I have my Wii on a 50'' plasma and have no problems with viewing angles - it does look a bit pixellated, but that's the Wii's resolution that's the problem.

Ack...can a 720p plasma really be a better buy than the Sharp, Sony, or Samsung 1080p LCD's? Even my "cheaper" 37" Aquos has decent enough viewing angles. You'd have to be right up in front and above to see serious color shifting.
