Awhile back there was a great price on the sansa e260 4gb mp3 player at buy.com. It was also stackable with a $30 coupon that I had so I bought it with the intention of giving it as an x-mas present to my fiance. I received the package and tucked it away until Christmas. Yes, yes, my fiance was very happy with the gift and wanted to use it right away. Of course she doesn't know how to use such a device so I opened it for her and took out the mp3 player. But... before I even took the mp3 player out of its wrapping I clearly read on the back that it was only a 2.0 gb player.... Hmm, it was packaged in the correct box, all my receipts show I bought the 4.0 gb model, etc. etc. how could this happen?

What's worse is the response from buy.com. They told me it was past their 14 day return policy and I was stuck with it. Wow, great, they sent me the wrong item and i'm responsible.

This was very unfortunate, I thought I was doing the right thing by buying christmas gifts early. Why should I have any suspicion about what I bought when the box is clearly labeled 4.0gb player and it has been sealed in plastic??? I have done quite a bit of business with them without any problems and I am not exactly bashing them. Though this experience has taught me to open anything I buy, and not purchase anything from buy.com :)

I'll have to take a visit over to the BBB and file a useless complaint, and wish that the manufacturer will share my sentiments and exchange the product for the correct one.

i ordered the same one from there and got the correct model. so i dunno what to tell you.

Does the package specify the serial number of the player and is that serial number clearly listed on your receipt/packing slip?

Everything shows the 4.0 gb model. SKU, model/part number, the packaging it came in, my order confirmation, my packaging slip, etc.

so sansa put the wrong model in their box? if thats the case i'd talk with them

Yep. If the package is truly factory sealed and never opened, the resolution lies with SanDisk, not Buy.com, unfortunately. I can't imagine for one second that SanDisk wouldn't correct this mistake, so give 'em a call and see what happens. Email might suffice as well.

Good luck...
