Bloody Heck! I forgot how good ThinkPads are.

So I just recently went from a Toshiba Tecra 8200 to a Toshiba Portege 3490CT to a Dell Latitude C840 and now an IBM ThinkPad R40. I'm just blown away with this machine even though it's only a workhorse until I get my next one.

Aside from the 5hr battery life I'm getting on one battery when the Dell only got 3 hours off of two batteries, I'm impressed with the keyboard and how solid it is. Then there's the little things like the key I accidentally hit that turned on a light for the keyboard. Holy shit. I can actually type at night again.

My next computer was going to be either a Dell M70 or M90, but now I'm going for a Thinkpad T60p.

I haven't run a machine this nice since the ThinkPad 365XD I used a few years back.

Now I just need to get an optical drive for this one and I'll be set.

Nice, I have a T60p and you will not be disappointed, it ia as good as you think it is. :D

Yep, they truly are awesome machinery. Lenovo is not doing much to keep up the tradition however. It would be nice if they could keep up the quality of ThinkPads as they've been over the past two decades or so... but I don't think they're up to the task, sad to say.

Congrats on getting back into the ThinkPad arena, so to speak. :D

I think lenovo is doing fine, at least on the T60 series, which I bought. I got a wonky LCD when I first got it (too much back bleed for my taste) and I got to talk to americans, and had it fixed quickly on their dime. The thing is built like a brick, and I can tell it will last me a long time. It was money well spent, and I'm happy with it, especially when I look at my friend's dells

Yeah the T43 I lucked into last week is a mighty fine work machine. After trying out all the shiny, flexy, heavy alternatives at Best Buy, the Thinkpads just feel so solid. Since I don't game, and am in no hurry to run Aero, its deficiencies in the multi-media areas mean little to me. With the heavy discounting going on now for last year's tech, these are suddenly a very attractive alternative to more than just the business community...

Glad to see youre enjoying it, Thinkpads really are in a class of their own in quality. I currently own 2 as show in sig below.

geeezus, 4 laptops recently?, why all the changes?, but I agree the Thinkpads are the highest quality laptop you can buy.

thinkpads rock, after going form another brand to think pad, it a nice change to step up to a good quality product.

I'm thinking about grabbing a Widescreen T60 in the near future...hopefully they'll come out with a 14.1" screen - I need the mobility...

Don't get too giddy, it's just a R series :D
My T60 was ordered today, to replace my current aged and broken T40. I don't think I'll consider a different laptop line for quite a while, if lenovo keeps the quality high.

I have owned/own a x20, R40, r52, T40, and as soon as it gets in the mail an X60 tablet - thinkpads rock and are well worth the additional cost :)

Just took delivery of an Ebay T42. Runs great, except they failed to upgrade the HD to the promised 60G 7200rpm. They're sending me another 512mb of RAM instead, which is fair enough I suppose. Unfortunately, like the T43 I got my wife for xmas, this machine is for a friend as well, so after I set it up and get it hummin', I'll be left with nothin' except my desktops....

I just recieved my new thinkpad T43 a week ago. The build quality is great and has an excellent keyboard. Thermally it does get hotter than I'd prefer (I've owned a Compaq and NEC in the past which have been no better or worse). The cooling heatsink/fan combo i've found to be poorly implemented - the fan makes irritating pulsing notions and the noise level of the fan compared to other systems i've had quite annoying at best. Ordering from Lenovo was a painful experience and needed to be corrected on my ordered items many times.
