I just ordered a AMD opty 180 and was wondering what some of you have achived with overclocks on these.

Thank in advance!

you paid too much get a 165 or 170 and hit 2.8-3.0 unless you need the higher multi cuz your board sucks...

but anyways

Thanks for the info Adidas.

So what makes the 180's such poor overclockers?

It isn't necessarily that the 180s are poor overclockers, I think it has more to do with the fact that nobody bought a 180 to overclock with and therefore there aren't many results to look at. Many people buy low-end models (165/170) because when they overclock them they get the best value.

Yea what he said.

Just got my opty 165 and paired it up with some ddr500 ram. Running it at 2.8ghz w/ 1.36v
@ 33c idle.

I am in love with the power this thing has. There is more romo up there if I went to water..but I don't know if $150+ for a h20 is worth the extra 200mhz.

just my $.02

Really, you wouldn't even need water for another 100 mhz or so. It looks like you're still well away from your "wall". My 170 rarely goes above 40C even at 1.5 volts @2.7. Never hurts to try! :D

are you gaming with your 180? what games do you play? Did you notice a difference. I ask because I am planning on getting one at end of month to replace my AMD64 3000+

It's on order, hopefully it will show up Friday. Yes, I do game and expect it to do very well for a 939. I'll keep you posted.

So no one else here has a 180 overclocked? I just recieved mine today. Stepping is: CCBWE 0550XPMW. Has anyone experianced this stepping?

Thanks

the CCBWE, generally, isn't good stepping. The 180s seem to top out at 2730-2770MHz. As said above, though, not a lot of 180 O/Cing going on so hard to get good sampling for comparisons. An admin on another forum had the same stepping and toppes at 2730MHz

Well, now you'll have experienced that stepping!

Get overclocking and give us some results! :D

I have a love-hate relationship with my 170. I bought it hoping it would hyperclock (2.8+) It can barely do 2.6 with a Scythe Ninja...:( That is FX60 speed but again I was hoping for more *goes off to try*

Installing tomorrow, results coming. Im keeping my expectations low at this point due to the lack of reports on oc'ing the 180. I would be thrilled with anything over 2.8, but would be satisfied with 2.7 as long as the volts are low and the temps are nice and cool. I guess all I can do is throw it in and hope.

honestly the 165s and 170s ccbbe steppings are the best for OCing... and they hit 2.8-3.0

I believe you, I actaully tried to switch my order to a 165, but it was too late. :(

Wish me luck.

alright. you can always return the CPU after you OC it to newegg if it sucks and get a 170 CCBBE and hope for the best
