Live! outselling ViiV

I'm surprised that Intel hasn't been marketing "ViiV" like they were pushing "Centrino." There were tons and tons of print and television ads for Centrino notebooks, but I've never seen anything about ViiV. It's a great marketing strategy, confusing people into associating wireless/mobility with "Centrino" and thus buying Intel products.

I would assume the lack of marketing in general is the reason for the close numbers. Everyone wants a notebook with a "Centrino" "processor" but nobody knows what ViiV or Live! is.

It doesn't help that Intel managed to come up with an even worse product name than Core. What the bleep kinda name is ViiV? Bloody terrible. (yes I know how it's pronounced, sounds like a brand of cheap shampoo)

cores name is cool and good

really conroe?

i would like buy one windows longhorn please
sure, here you go, one windows longhorn.

In light of the recent anti-french sentiment in the USA (or at least I am under the impression that hating the French is currently en vogue) I would say that ViiV was a branding mistake.

Ok... so AMD's Live outsold Intel's ViiV... hmmm....

What, did they sell 5 systems to Intel's 3?

:D

Well, if it did its still outselling it. Don't see the point to the question, personally. Speaking of "getting panties in a wad" what's the deal Poncho? You've been all over anyone who is pro AMD the last day or two. Since I don't go over to the Intel side and post I'm sincerely curious to know why you are in such a snit lately. Its not characteristic of you.

ViiV is a stupid, stupid, stupid name

that we can all agree on.....

besides, not like Live! vs ViiV is any big deal anyway.... for an HTPC, all you need is a dual core, doesnt take much to encode TV shows unless its HD (which so few ppl have anyway)

It was a joke.... poking fun @ Intel as much as AMD.

This is a shot in the dark, but could it be that Intel has more stringent requirements as to what gets the ViiV moniker, thus driving up the price? I mean, I can't see most consumers caring whether their new system has the ViiV or Live! sticker.

ok man. You had me worried there. I thought it was highly uncharacteristic of you. Its all good.
EDIT
I was a little slow on the uptake! I was walking my dog this AM and thought about the joke - then I got it! :p Heh not really [H] material from either one eh? Like I said - a bit slow on the uptake.

You're right. Intel makes you pay $50 to slap the ViiV logo on the case.

It's probably the other way around. Intel rebates the OEM for using the badge, unless you're a crappy whiteboxer.

Besides, I already explained why this article is useless.

Well, as far as Centrino is concerned, you need to have an Intel wireless card and an Intel chipset to get the badge. These can in some cases drive up price.

As for ViiV, perhaps they think that a $200 CPU is the minimum requirement for home theater applications, whereas AMD might require a $100 CPU.
